Verne Batchelder June 23, 1953 – October 18, 2019
O
n October 18, 2019, dressage trainer, Hanoverian breeder, and AHS judge Verne E. Batchelder passed away from a heart attack while on a business trip in Maine. Born June 23, 1953, to Verne C. Batchelder and Kathryn George, Verne grew up on a dairy farm in Fairlee, Vermont, with five brothers and sisters. He went on to earn a degree in math and sciences from the University of Vermont, and taught math and sciences at Thetford Academy for 17 years. From his farmer parents, Verne learned about breeding quality Holstein cattle, but Verne was passionate about horses from an early age. The soon-to-be dressage master earned his riding knowledge from area Olympians and spent 30 years passing that knowledge on to others. In the 1980s, he used the profits from selling his cattle to purchase what would become River
House Hanoverians in Piermont, New Hampshire. He attended an equine breeding techniques program at the University of Colorado and traveled to Germany for many years to master the many layered topic of bloodlines. Over the years, Verne and his family imported more than 200 Hanoverians to the United States, developing River House Hanoverians into a nationally known breeding program. Verne was a well-respected clinician, having earned his USDF bronze and silver medals. He was successful in the show arena as well as the breeding community, eventually becoming a judge for AHS. At the time of his death, he was living in Williston, Florida, where he owned and operated River House Hanoverians with his daughter, Nora. He is also survived by his wife, Jeanie Hahn, and daughter, Emma.
TWO DAYS PRIOR TO PASSING, VERNE SHARED THE FOLLOWING ON FACEBOOK: I had the priviledge of spending some time in New England doing my clinic tour. The fall foliage is spectacular this year. ... I found this vibrant single leaf. It is truly special yet it came from the same tree, the same hillside view that stops cars with out-of-state plates to click pics. All of those multi-colored leaves came from the same roots, the same soil, the same nutrients, absorbed the same sunshine yet the billions of them end up with a stunning variation of colors that makes us all stop and admire the variety. P
aul H. Cohen, 62, of Westminster, Maryland, passed away on May 20, 2020 after a long illness. A 1980 University of Miami graduate, Paul spent time crewing a skipjack in the Chesapeake Bay before joining the family insurance business in Baltimore. In 2004, Paul purchased Associations Underwriters Inc/ Ziplow Horse Insurance and struck out on his own. Although his business ranged all equestrian disciplines, Paul’s support of the Hanoverian breeders was unparalleled. He sponsored local club interests, which then expanded to the National level. In 2007, Paul conceived the AUIZHI/MAHB-Bred

Awards, and was the sole sponsor of annual prizes at Dressage at Devon distributed to the top MAHB-bred Hanoverians in the breed show. His generosity continued with contributions to All-American Hanoverian Young Dressage Horse Awards, which he sustained for years. Paul was a regular at many Hanoverian functions including local inspections, sales fests, stallion tests, and AHS annual meetings. He was always willing to lend a hand, whether as a certified Emergency Medical Technician, moving jumps for a mare performance test, or serving as Hanoverian cheerleader extraordinaire. Paul will be so very missed.
R
ubignon was the culmination of four generations of Grand Prix and international performance horses from Rubinstein/Donnerhall/Pik Solo with fantastic character, temperament, and type. Listed for the Swedish dressage team in 2008 and 2009, Rubignon had 17 Grand Prix wins and placings--both domestically and abroad--to his name. “His temperament is superb, true to his sire, his movement is even better than Rubinstein,” said German Oldenburg Judge Evelin Vollsted during Rubignon’s licensing. He was licensed with the Hannoveraner Verband in 2009 and that year moved to California where he stood at Rainbow Equus and Eurequine.

erbellin, a 16.3 h. chestnut, was one of those stallions who could do it all. He began his training in Germany at the Celle State Stud, achieving Class I Stallion status. In the early 2000s, Werbellin spent seven years under the tutelage of Christopher Hickey, earning national recognition at the Grand Prix
level. After a distinguished show career, the stallion served as schoolmaster, helping more than one young rider earn top scores. His last days were spent in hunters and dressage with young rider Michaela Dupuis. At home, Werbellin was best known for his charming personality and love of people. 2020

FOR WINNERS The 2020 AHS Annual Meeting featured Florida sunshine, learning, and comradery. BY DENNIS MOORE

H
eld February 7-9, 2020, in West Palm Beach, Florida, the meeting provided a sunny vacation and opportunity to visit with Hanoverian and Rhinelander friends. It was also among the last opportunities to watch top-level equestrian competition at Wellington before the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic lock down. The epicenter of the meeting was the Hilton Embassy Suites Hotel, conveniently located to the airport, West Palm Beach and Palm Beach city centers, and, most importantly, a short drive from the horse shows in Wellington. Board member and 2019 Volunteer of the Year Anne Sparks, of Horses Unlimited in New Mexico, worked hard along with the AHS/ARS office staff (thank you, Sandy Lee and Joanne Hodges) to organize this wonderful opportunity for Hanoverian and Rhineland owners and breeders to meet one another, learn more about the horses we love, and to view international-class equestrian competitions.
This year, we were joined by Dr. Ludwig Christmann, the International Breeding Director of the Hanoverian Verband in Germany, along with Anna von Holten-Jungheit, a German Hanoverian breeding judge and a judge for the 2019 AHS/ARS inspection tour. Overall, it was another great meeting in the Florida sunshine. We learned a lot. We ate well. We enjoyed lovely accommodations. We saw gorgeous horses and exciting equestrian competitions. And, we enjoyed the company of wonderful folks who share our passion for Hanoverian and Rhineland horses and expanded our networks of riders, owners and breeders from around the United States. COVID-19 notwithstanding, may we stay safe, healthy, and enjoy another productive year with our horses so we may meet in Florida again next year on January 28-31, 2021. Mark your calendars: It’s a meeting not to be missed.

World Championship Austria A TRIP OF FIRSTS UNITES YOUNG BREEDERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. BY ERIN BELL, SENIOR TEAM, AHSYB

AHS Young Breeders Senior Team members Thomas Ruckert, Erin Bell, Anna Smith, and Michaela Dupuis headed to the conformation competition.
verwhelming excitement often accompanies a first experience. Even something mundane can be thrilling the first time. I had countless exciting first experiences at the Young Breeders’ Championships, which took place on July 18-21, 2019. A year later, my hands still tremble with adrenaline. “[The International Young Breeders Competitions] brings young breeders together across breeding associations, countries, and languages,” says Dr. Ludwig Christmann, a founder of the young breeders’ activities. The teams compete in four disciplines — theory, conformation judging, free-jumping judging, and presenting a horse —but above all, the competition leads to new friendships and connections. Two teams represented the United States. The Senior Team comprised Thomas Ruckert, Anna Smith, Michaela Dupuis, and Erin Bell; the Junior Team included Sophia Wild, Zenia Castillo, Emily Strong, and Skylyn Dowdy. Shea Johnson, Chris Kropf, Dorie Vlatten-Schmitz, and Judy Hedreen coached both teams. 2020

The US team ‘s mare gleamed, with a perfect tail braid and a combed American flag as a finishing touch.
THE TRIP The team was supposed to travel as a group from Detroit to Munich, and then caravan to the competition site Pferdezentrum Stadl-Paura in Austria. Unfortunately, travel plans aren’t always predictable; my connection from Detroit had a flat tire, my rescheduled flight was delayed, and the airline sold my international flight to someone else. I arrived 24 hours later than planned— the day the competition began. So began the start of my first trip to Europe! Hoping to make the free jumping scheduled for late morning, I rented a car from Munich and drove on motorways and took ausfharts to get to Stadl-Paura. The drive featured lots of “firsts.” I rented an imported Ford Focus with a metric speedometer and had mere centimeters of wiggle room on the road; with no upper-speed limit on the autobahn, I was easily passed while going 100 km. I secretly loved it—it felt like I was 20

I arrived at the competition in time for the conformation judging but missed the jumping portion. At this point, I had been traveling for the past 48 hours and was pretty tired. After a three-hour drive through Germany and Austria, I was relieved and dazed to have finally arrived.
THE COMPETITION The competition was held at a beautiful equestrian center. Pferdezentrum Stadl-
Paura is an equestrian/agricultural college and competition center for horse and cultural shows. Although now privately run, the center formerly housed the state-run stud farm for the national horses. The grounds included a main indoor competition ring with grandstands and concessions, as well as several adjacent indoor and outdoor arenas, all with top-of-theline footing. The conformation phase consisted of two triangle setups: one each for the junior and senior teams. Two judges scored per
Both the U.S. senior and junior teams put in the time and effort to make the trip fun, exciting, and productive. Pictured L-R: Shea Johnson, Coach; Michaela Dupuis; Chris Kropf, Coach; Thomas Ruckert; Anna Smith; Erin Altman; Skylyn Dowdy; Sophia Wild; Emily Strong; and Zenia Castillo
team. Competitors attempted to match scores with the judges’ marks for a presented horse. Each portion of the horse and the horse’s gaits receives a score. It takes many years of training to accurately identify faults and ideal attributes. The turnout phase required teams to groom the horse for presentation. With a set time allotted for grooming, everyone hoped for a horse that hadn’t slept in urine the night before. The US Senior Team played to each other’s strengths: Michaela can do a speedy tight tail braid coming from the hunter world; Anna and Michaela knew some handy grooming techniques and combed the American flag on the haunches with team help; I braided with dressage buttons; Thomas brushed and oiled the mare until she gleamed. As the most charismatic of the group, Thomas was voted to present. The in-hand phase followed the next
day. Competitors were assigned a randomly selected horse and provided with information to memorize and present to the judge with 15 minutes to prepare. At the walk, horse and handler entered the ring, traversing the triangle before halting in front of the judge and presenting the information memorized: “Hello! My name is Erin Altman representing the American Hanoverian Society presenting Sarah Noel, a 13-year-old warmblood mare, by Quidam de Revel out of a Samba mare.” (In theory, presenters also include the breed and the dam, but those were not provided to me.) Handlers continued presenting, walking on a straight line away from the judge and back, and again at a trot. It’s important to show the horse so the judge can see the straightness and movement. My mare was a confident, good-moving horse to present. We only had one misstep where she
trotted out of our halt instead of walked, but we recovered quickly and received 9s and 10s for our other movements. I received a 94 percent and placed 10th in the World Championships against 71 other top handlers in the world. The social experience ranked as my highest “first” experience. Everything was in German, and I will never forget my new vocabulary: Ausfarht (exit), pferd (horse), and verboten (forbidden). Fortunately, body language is universal, as is dancing. Everyone loves to learn new moves. The Boot Scootin’ Boogie is not for beginners, but the Chicken Dance is very popular and transcends different cultures! The landscape of Austria is breathtaking. The mountain air is pure, and water is ice cold from the rivers. Historic 100-yearold buildings stood next to brand-new ones. It was a perfect setting for my “first” European experience. 2020

he AHS is pleased to announce the final standings of the seventh annual $3,000 AHS Yearling and Two-Year-Old Futurity held during the 2019 inspection tour. The 2019 sponsor was Eurequine, LLC (Edgar Schutte) and StarQuarry Farms (Jill Peterson) who deserve a round of applause and a hearty “thank you.” The Futurity classes were offered at 27 sites around the country during the annual American Hanoverian Society inspection tour. In 2019, there were 49 yearlings (34 fillies, 15 colts/geldings) and 36 two-year-olds (23 fillies, 13 colts/geldings) presented.

The Hartwig Memorial Trophy HPMC Lucky Ladybug TF
THIS YEAR’S 3-YEAR-OLD Hartwig Prize winner, HPMC Lucky Ladybug TF, aka Bugs, already had an interesting journey, starting with her dam, Feng Popo TF, aka Fiona. Fiona was purchased from Facebook by Kimberly Davies-Slous. The mare was advertised as a hot, fiery chestnut for someone who wanted a project. DaviesSlous wasn’t afraid of taking on a new adventure, so she took a chance and eventually decided to try breeding Fiona. She chose the stallion Livaldon looking to add some height and improve on Fiona’s canter and rideability. With Lucky Ladybug TF’s rideability inspection score of 8.5, Davis-Slous clearly accomplished
her breeding goals. Bugs was purchased as a foal by Jamie Pruyt, who later entered her in an AHS inspection and put the mare up for sale. Enter Michelle Conrad, an upper-level dressage rider, who was looking for a new prospect. Although a green 3-year-old wasn’t exactly what Conrad was searching for, her trainer, Judy Kelly, was impressed with Bug’s sales video. When Conrad and Kelly went to see the mare, they were astonished at Bugs’ wonderful gaits, great brain, pleasant attitude, and incredible work ethic, particularly given she’d only been under saddle about 4 months. Conrad purchased Bugs before the inspection but made the sale date for the day after inspection so Pruyt and her young-horse trainer, Carrie Wilson, could take her through the inspection process. The entire team was there on inspection day and though the youngster had never been to a show or show environment before, she took everything in stride. She earned 9s on her walk and canter and scored an overall 8.17 that day. Bugs and her team certainly seem to have a bright and promising future.

E
ach year, the AHS awards the Dr. Hartwig Prize to the best North American-bred young Hanoverian mare. The award is limited to 3- and 4-year-old registered mares, conceived and foaled in the United States or Canada. The winner is determined by combining each mare’s scores from her studbook inspection and mare performance test, with mares 3-years-of-age having .4 point added to the final total.
HPMC WICKED CUTE awarded Reserve Champion Hartwig Memorial Trophy. Dee Franz, the proud owner of “Cutie” has been a long-time client and friend of Hanoverian breeder Meg Williams. HPMC Wicked Cute is a terrific reflection of Meg’s breeding program which is focused on producing fun, versatile, easy to ride, amateur friendly horses with high quality movement and conformation. Cutie is the third generation of Meg’s program on her dam side and is sired by Meg’s proven 22-year-old stallion Widmark. Though she is only 15.3hh, Cutie thinks she’s 17 hands and has a personality to match. She’s an incredible mare who is headed for a performance career in dressage but also jumps well and enjoys trail rides. A versatile, easy going and willing athlete…what more could you ask? 2020

The Bari von Buedingen Memorial Trophy Rockelle achieves highest inspection tour score of the year.
T
he Bari von Buedingen Memorial Trophy was the first of the American Hanoverian Society’s perpetual trophies. It was donated to the AHS in the early 1990s in memory of noted breeder Bari von Buedingen, who, together with her husband Dr. Richard von Buedingen, developed their Graf Bae Farm broodmare band into one of the best in the United States. This award is given to the highest scoring Hanoverian mare seen during the American Hanoverian Society’s annual inspection tour. In 2019, Rockelle (RotsponWiesling/Wolkentanz I) achieved the highest inspection tour score of 8.33.
ANGELA MIRARCHI of Jovee Farm in Browns Summit, North Carolina, knows all about perseverance and serendipity. It started with Rockelle’s mother, Joan. After a long search for a versatile performance horse who could excel at both hunters and dressage, Mirarchi 26

went to look at a Hanoverian for sale at Sullivan Farm in Walkertown, North Carolina. “When I arrived, they told me the horse I wanted to look at had been injured. I was so disappointed,” recalls Mirarchi. “They had only two others available in my price range, so I reluctantly agreed to look at those.” One was a 4-year-old dark brown mare called Joan, registered name Wiesling (Wolkentanz-MS Dividende/ES Domingo), who had only been ridden a few times and was still very green. “The moment I saw her, I fell in love,” says Mirarchi. Joan was intended to be Mirarchi’s riding horse but sadly ended up retired after a long, difficult bout with Lyme disease. With Joan’s excellent bloodlines and talent, Mirarchi’s veterinarian suggested breeding the mare. A good broodmare, of course, is worth her weight in gold. The rest, as they say, is history. Rockelle’s older brother, Rembrahnt, a stunning 2014 colt by Rotspon out of
Joan, earned many accolades as a youngster and Mirarchi liked the Rotspon– Joan combination so much that she decided to repeat that cross, resulting in Rock. Born in 2016, Rock is very much like her dam with a big heart, lots of talent and a few opinions about how a partnership should work. Like her big brother, Rockelle garnered a lot of success in a very limited time. As a foal in 2016, she was Champion of the GAIG/USDFBC East Coast Current Year Foal Final at Dressage at Devon with an 81.6%. In 2017 she was Champion Filly (83.25%) and Reserve Champion Young Horse at Dressage at Lexington. In both 2016 and 2017 she was USDF Horse of the Year–Dressage Sport Horse. At her AHS Inspection, where she earned this memorial trophy with the highest overall score in the country of 8.33, she had mostly 8s and 9s and no scores below a 7. “Sometimes I think how different everything would have been if my firstchoice horse hadn’t been lame that day back in 2004,” says Mirarchi. But choosing a Hanoverian wasn’t luck — that was the result of research, persistence, and planning. “I’m so glad Joan brought me into this breed,” says Mirarchi.

The Engler-Friedlaender Memorial Trophy HPMC Crazy For Calyspo achieves highest MPT score of the year with 8.38.
I
n July of 1998, the American Hanoverian Society saw the passing of two of its most prominent members in former President Hermann Friedlaender and long-time board member Dr. Reto Engler. Each in his own way served the Society with distinction for many years. That fall, John and Tracy Weyl, owners of Maplewood Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, approached the AHS with a generous offer to memorialize Mr. Friedlaender and Dr. Engler through the creation and donation to the Society of a unique
perpetual trophy. Created by world-renowned artist Karen Kasper, the Engler-Friedlaender Memorial Trophy is a one-of-a-kind work of art. At the specific request of Mr. and Mrs. Weyl, the trophy is awarded each year to the Hanoverian mare that achieves the highest Mare Performance Test score during the annual inspections.
IN 2019, HPMC CRAZY FOR CALYPSO achieved the highest MPT score of the year with an 8.38.
The beautiful EnglerFriedlaender Trophy, created by world-renowned artist Karen Kasper features a triptych of a mare in the various phases of the Mare Performance Test memorialized in bronze relief.
Crazy for Calypso, barn name Cici, was part of Fox Lair Sport Horses first foal crop in 2012. Her dam, Crazy Lady, was the first mare purchased for the farm. They selected Coconut Grove as the sire with the hope of adding some refinement to Crazy Lady’s older, bigboned jumper lines. From early on, Cici was very athletic, a bit hot, and successful in competition. As a 2-year-old, she was the top US-bred horse in the USEA future event horse in-hand competition. Cici was easy to start but she really began to bloom after about 90 days under saddle when her partnership with Kate Chadderton resulted from a Facebook post. Chadderton, an international threeday event competitor hailing from Australia, posted a query on Facebook after a horse shopping trip to Europe in 2015: Where are all the good U.S.-bred eventer prospects? Fox Lair Sport Horses Performance Manager Brandi Smith responded. The result has been a fantastic partnership with Cici and Chadderton. The mare’s terrific MPT results at Hilltop Farm in 2019 further reinforced Chadderton’s belief in HPMC Crazy for Calypso’s future as a five-star eventer. 2020

The Benchmark Farm Perpetual Trophy Bond Girl DSF Wins highest combined jumping score for mares.
T
he Benchmark Farm Award goes to the mare each year that scores the highest combined jumping score in their MPT. This can be achieved by a Hanoverian or a non-Hanoverian mare. And, if there are mares that score equally, the award can be won by several mares. This award was donated anonymously in 2004 and is named for the farm owned by the sculptor, Phyllis Hamilton.
WHEN BRANDI SMITH, the performance manager at Fox Lair Sport Horses, saw Bond Girl DSF on Facebook she “fell in love and had to have her.” At four years old, she looked like her sire, Bon Balou, and “oozed power and grace,” quips Smith. The sales video for the 17-hand mare showed wonderful suspension and coming under from behind, which also supported Smith’s belief in her potential jumping ability. 28

Fox Lair Sport Horses has bred several mares to Dreamscape Farm stallions, but Bond Girl DSF is the first horse they have purchased from the Canadian breeder. A quick learner, Bond Girl DSF went from 90 days with a young-horse starter to an AHS inspection. To prepare for the mare performance test part of the inspection, which was only 30 days away, Smith and her team set up a jump chute for the young mare. The team only had to put her through the chute once and realized there was no need to practice further as she was a natural. Bond Girl DSF is one of the easiest horses Smith’s team has ever started and immediately became the barn favorite with her sweet and friendly personality. Today, the team plans a hunter or jumper performance career for Bond Girl DSF but with COVID-19 shutting down the show circuit for an undetermined length of time, there is some thought about breeding her this

EM/CM Francheska AH, or Jessie as she’s known around the barn, is a 9-year-old mare who was purchased as a 2-year-old from breeder Kate Palmquist of Lexington, Virginia. When Toering first saw Jessie, she saw all the signs of a future star — from gaits to temperament. Toering and her father, Rick, knew Palmquist well and that she had a reputation for breeding nice horses. Asked to describe Jessie, Toering says, “She’s beautiful and she knows it and always wants to do well.” Toering, now 18 and finishing her senior year of high school, is headed to the University of

he Brooklea Farm Overall Champion Eventing Award Perpetual Trophy is awarded to the Hanoverian with the most points, adjusted for difficulty, from the eventing winners. The award was conceived and donated by Jo Anne Balling in the name of her Barboursville, Virginia farm, Brooklea. It is granted for the first time in 2019.
TAMIE SMITH AND DANITO had an amazing first full year together in 2019 and finished the season with a bang, achieving Intermediate Reserve Champion at the American Eventing Championships, placing third at Twin Rivers CCI4*-S in September, and first at Galway Downs CCI3*-L in October. Champion and the Area VI Intermediate Champion for 2019, as well. In November 2013, Ruth Bley found Danito and several other horses in Germany on a horse shopping expedition. She was searching for an eventing horse for herself, some eventer friends, and young riders. Though Danito’s bloodlines are heavily dressage-oriented (his dam is also the mother of German Olympic team gold and individual bronze winner Desperados FRH), Bley found him forward-thinking and thought he would make a good eventing prospect. Bley was busy competing the other horses she bought and decided to try selling Danito. Though talented, Danito proved to be a difficult ride. Like many super-talented horses, he is very smart and sensitive and needs a confident, talented, and accurate rider he can trust.

In mid-2018 while competing against Tamie Smith at an event in California, Bley approached her about taking over the ride on Danito. As a result of this successful pairing, Danito is no longer for sale. Bley hopes to watch Danito and Smith continue developing and potentially fulfill a dream of Bley’s: to see a woman rider from the West Coast contributing to US international and Olympic eventing success!

Congratulations to the following breeders whose 2019 foals walked away from their respective inspections with a Gold Medal Foal distinction. This new program is offered by Hannoveraner International, the organization for Hanoverian societies outside of Germany. Foals with a dressage pedigree are judged on type, conformation, walk, and trot and must receive a score of 8.0 or higher. Jumping-pedigree foals are judged on type, conformation, and basic gaits and need to score 7.5 or higher. This is not a foal competition nor automatically awarded to the top foal of the day but an independent international Hanoverian award for high quality foals. Judges will internally score foals at the inspection to determine the top dressage foals and jumping foals but those scores will not be recorded.

HANOVERIAN
2019 AHS MATERIALE AWARDS
Beginning with the 2009 season, the American Hanoverian Society (AHS) introduced a new set of awards for young horses who are competing in Materiale classes in dressage and sport horse breed shows. In these classes, the horses are ridden in groups and evaluated and scored mainly for their gaits, with their conformation evaluated secondly. The classes are divided by age and are for young horses three-years-old and four- and five-years-old. The 2019 AHS Materiale Awards were generously sponsored by Doug and Shannon Langer’s Maple Run Farm. To be eligible for these awards, the horses must be in the AHS Registry (recorded in the case of German-papered horses) and the owner must be a current year member of the American Hanoverian Society (Active, Associate, Regular, Junior). Also we do require that the horse be Lifetime Recorded with USDF, and the owner and rider must be participating USDF members for their scores to count and medians to be determined. We strongly encourage members declare the AHS as “their registry of choice” with the USDF so all of the important bases are covered and the horses are already set up for AllBreeds. Congratulations to all!

This award was originally conceived in 2006 by Maurine (Mo) and Jim Swanson of Rolling Stone Farm in Slatington, Pennsylvania, as a new yearend award for American Hanoverian Society breeders and owners. The Swansons commissioned a beautiful painting that hangs in the AHS office in Lexington, Kentucky. Each year, the names of the winners are added on small brass plates around the frame and winners receive keepsake trophies. To be eligible for these awards, the horses must be in the AHS Registry and the owner must be a current year member of the AHS. We do require that the horse be Lifetime Recorded with USDF, and the owner and rider must be participating members with the USDF for their scores to count and medians to be determined. We strongly encourage that our members declare the AHS as “their registry of choice” with the USDF so all of the important bases are covered and so the horses are already set up for All Breeds. Congratulations to all.

The American Rhineland Studbook (ARS) is proud to present the year-end awards winners. The 2019 show season proved successful for ARS-registered horses. The ARS launched in 2016, marking the first time Rhineland horses and their owners enjoyed the opportunity to compete within an awards program dedicated to the Rhineland breed. Mirroring the AHS system, the ARS offers awards in dressage, eventing, hunters, and jumpers, as well as sport horse breeding. As Rhineland registrations increase, the ARS will continue expanding award programs accordingly. For more information, visit www.rhineland.org. Congratulations to the Rhineland year-end awards recipients!
