From Your CEO... by: Doug Wilhoit
I know that sometimes reading my long articles can be a “pain in the neck or back” for some of you, so you can feel good that the shoe is now on the other foot. I have been out a several days with a “neck and back” that have gone out on me, have kept me away from the office and delayed the Port O Call September article. I can handle the pain I am experiencing now, but could not withstand the torture I would be put through by Heidi or Wes if I did not deliver something to them by Monday morning, August 16. I am sure you all read in The Record on August 2 and 3 that the long road on the prison issue has been crossed and that the agreement was signed. In The Record editorial on the August 2 it stated, “Sides come together to start real work of building prison hospital.” It further stated, “They’ll gather today to put a little mutual ink to paper, smile for the cameras and declared in unison that all’s well that ends well.” True, but now the work really begins to make sure all parties continually work together to ensure the intent of the agreement is met to the letter. The article went on to say: “Those involved in the protracted dispute deserve credit for persevering. They made the best of an ill-matched courtship involving parties that essentially had to get married. The chamber, elected officials, lawyers and other exhibited gumption and teamwork in trying to exact the best deal possible deal for the city and county.” That in nutshell says volumes about the value of your chamber membership – perseverance and gumption – in protecting and promoting business and quality of life in our great community. As I have said before, we thank those of you who have maintained your membership during this tough time, knowing that we will continue to always put our members first. For those of you who felt you had to forgo your membership, you are always welcomed back into the chamber family. If you have never been a member, now is the best time to join—to help all of us get through this tough time in our business and personal lives. So when good times Mayor Ann Johnston; Carlos Villapudua, San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors Chairman; J. Clark Kelso, the Federal Receiver for California Prison Health Care Services; Rick Goucher, Stockton Chamber President

With My Health Manager, your employees can refill prescriptions online and pick them up at their local Kaiser Permanente pharmacy. Most prescriptions can even be mailed at no extra charge— no driving, no lines, no time away from work.
Members can use other convenient online features to: • e-mail their doctor’s office • check lab results • request routine appointments with
