YOU DON’T PROFIT FROM SICK EMPLOYEES. WHY DOES YOUR HEALTH PROVIDER? In an industry built on fee-for-service care, Kaiser Permanente succeeds because we’re built around prevention and the highest quality care. One Harvard Business Review article described our care as “untainted by any economic conflict of interest.”* And in an industry report by The Economist, Kaiser Permanente’s care was described as promoting economy and quality care with “no financial motive to order unnecessary procedures.”† To learn more about Kaiser Permanente, call 1-800-464-4000 or visit kp.org/choosebetter.

for this award-winning event. I encourage everyone to participate to the extent that

they can do so. It never ceases to amaze me what can be done with asparagus and still taste good. The Chamber wants to encourage the support of the initiative before the Stockton City Council to provide training to volunteers who serve on City boards and commissions. The University of Pacific has agreed to provide such training at a reduced cost and the Chamber Board of Directors has also agreed to make a contribution to help fund this training. The Chamber would also encourage other private businesses to consider supporting this initiative politically and financially. The Chamber believes that this valuable training will help these volunteers do a better job in their various positions and help better prepare them to be leaders for tomorrow. Everyone should take some time to attend the Chamber mixer on April 3rd at The Stockton Area. I hope to see you there.

O

n the weekend of April 25, Stockton will once again welcome visitors, residents and spear-lovers to the city’s lovely waterfront district for the annual Asparagus Festival. Stockton’s iconic

spring festival, which is now in its 29th year, celebrates one of Stockton’s biggest agricultural crops each year by treating nearly 100,000 attendees to incredible food, unforgettable events and a whole slew of activities, musical acts and much more.

Great Entertainment Options

This year’s festival will offer a bevy of high-profile entertainment options to guests. Local, national and internationally-celebrated entertainers will be playing daily from five different stages, according to Post. One tremendous entertainment feature making a first

Chamber of Commerce, Visit Stockton as well as more than 60 committees and over 5,000 volunteers, all under the leadership of Executive Director Kate Post.

The festival’s Bud Light Main Stage will include two shows per day from nationally-recognized acts including returning-favorites War, who will bring down the house as the grand finale on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the DeCarli Stage will offer a wide selection of

New Features

According to Post, this year, the popular festival will continue its tradition of expanding offerings for repeat and first time visitors alike. Return visitors will notice one of the biggest changes to this year’s festival right from the entrance gate: instead of the open-air carnival feel of previous years, this year’s festivities will be grouped under large, beautiful tents provided through Special Events. Post added that the festival is also making a big move to ease congestion at entrance gates by offering tickets, food vouchers, bus passes and more online at asparagusfest.com. “That will really cut down on guests’ time standing in line and help them get into the festival much more quickly,” said Post. Bus service, provided by San Joaquin Rapid Transit District this year, has also been expanded to include frequent and convenient shuttles starting on Friday, April 25 and running in

fantastic home-grown acts from local dance troupes to San Joaquin County musicians. The full schedule of acts scheduled to appear at the festival is available at asparagusfest.com Food Fest

One thing that will not change about this year’s festival is the food, added Post. In the festival’s “Asparagus Alley,” the crowd-favorite deep fried asparagus—which was ordered a mind-boggling 36,000 times last year—and the famous get-it-while-you-can asparagus ice cream (organizers are planning over 12,000 servings this year, and are still expected to sell out), will be served right alongside classic favorite and delicate new options that highlight the incredible flavor of Stockton’s top crop. “People come for the food first, and they stay and enjoy everything around it,” said Post.

Port guardian by day. Athletic mentor by night. Tim Ivey patrols the Port with his loyal K9 companion Tyce. Afterwards, he teaches school kids how to shoot hoops and hit a curveball. Under Tim’s watchful eyes, the Port has grown its 55-country trade relations and yearly billion-dollar commerce. But the relationships he values most are the ones he’s built at Stockton’s ballparks and playgrounds.
