BAKUL PATEL

As your Chamber President I have had the pleasure of meeting these fine leaders and have

heard them educate and present their knowledge to the community. I have learned so much about the challenges they face and have also seen some great statistics on future plans. I encourage you to be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem (great advice given out many times here in the Port O Call by Doug) when it comes to keeping our community safe. Examples of ways you can help is if you see something, say something. The authorities cannot respond to an issue or problem if they don’t know about it. And be aware of your surroundings: don’t make yourself or your business an easy target. Last year, the Leadership Class of 2016 did such a great job in helping the Stockton Police Department (SPD) with their P.E.A.C.E. (Police Encouragement and Community Engagement) Project. The SPD showed its appreciation with kind letters, phone calls, a plaque commemorating the project and a heartfelt thank you from Chief Jones at the graduation. It was great to see so many people, in addition to the class members, show their support to the local Police Department and help the class with the project. Thank you again to the hard working individuals of the Stockton Police Department, Stockton Fire Department, and San Joaquin County Sheriff ’s Department for your dedication to serving this community and thank you for Keeping Stockton Safe.

FROM YOUR CEO BY: DOUG WILHOIT I Am a Police Officer I am a police officer.

DOUG WILHOIT, Proud Member of the Stockton PD 1967-1979 To the right you will see a poem that was recently posted on Facebook and it says so much about the men and women who serve in all public safety areas as depicted on our April cover. I would also include all emergency responders (paramedics, hospital staff and others) who work so hard to serve, protect, and save lives. I was proud and honored to serve as a member of the Stockton Police Department (50 years ago, I started Sep. 22, 1967) and to this day I become so very upset when I see and hear the way all these brave men and women are depicted with false narratives. Yes, they are all human and sadly mistakes happen, but to paint all with one paintbrush

I get up in the morning, just like you. I drink my coffee, just like you. I hug my spouse. I hug my kids. And I say I love you, just like youBut I never know if I’ll come home at the end of my shift. I am a police officer. I get into my squad car. I set my own self-interests aside. I put myself in danger to keep you safe. Your security is my responsibility. I protect. I serve. I’ll give my life to save yours. I am a police officer. I break up gang fights. I bust drug rings. I stop murders. Somebody has to. I get yelled at and spit on. I get called names and cussed at. I get death threats and complaints. I am a police officer.

I don’t do it for the peace of mind. I do it because I believe in the law. In justice. In peace. I love what I do. I deal with the insults. I endure the assaults. I suffer the stress. So you don’t have to. I am a police officer. I am human, just like you. I have feelings, just like you. But when I encounter violence, I bring peace. Where I meet danger, I bring safety. Where I see weakness, I bring strength. I am a police officer. I am proud to wear this badge. I am honored to protect my community. This is my calling. This is my life. I hold strong the blue line. My brothers who’ve fallen I honor each day. The sacrifice they made, we’ll never forget. This is my duty and the burden I carry. I Am a Police Officer Shared on the Law Enforcement Lifestyle Facebook Page, Brought to you by the KOVA Corporation.

I don’t do it for the pay. I don’t do it for the recognition.

is not only unfair but, I believe, immoral! All these men and women in all areas of public and medical safety deserve all of our respect, trust, help, support, understanding and most of all our combined community thanks for what they do 24/7, 365! And to that I say: 10-4!
