Your Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce actively addresses education and life-skill training to ensure a viable workforce. SUSD’s award winning Heath Care Academy is a result of a collaboration of the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce, government officials, and visionary educators. It chokes me up every time I visit the school with students in their scrubs, politely saying “hello” or “may I help you?”, and confidently displaying the vital social skill of shaking my hand. It reminds me of my Dad teaching me to shake hands and advising me to “Look them in the eye gal.” Meeting these amazing young people gives me so much hope for the future of our community. The GSCC Business Education Alliance (BEA) brings Academia to Business-Business to Academia by preparing students for future employment through mock-interviews, career fairs, guest speakers, science, and industry tours. The GSCC 2016-2017 Leadership Stockton Class worked with the Caesar Chavez Central Library to create a functioning Makerspace that includes 3D printers, video and sound editing equipment, Oculus Rift virtual reality system and laser cutter to inspire creativity in our everchanging technological world. Once again, showing the power of working together and the important work the GSCC does on a daily basis. For the most part, we are an agrarian community. Literacy and the education of our children is the number one crop we need to cultivate to ensure Stockton has a viable, capable workforce. The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce staff supports TLC Charter School for homeless and at-risk children. Last year Dameron Hospital provided school supplies to disadvantaged children and as with all giving, we received the greatest joy in doing so. Think about how you can light the fire of knowledge in a child who just might be your future employee, or a young entrepreneur whose vision will bring jobs to the community. Your investment will pay great dividends and will help to support commerce throughout San Joaquin County.

The purpose of the Green Team San Joaquin is to create a nexus between commerce and environment and to enhance the delivery of Chamber services and to address economic, environmental, and quality of life issues in Stockton and San Joaquin County. In 2005, the Chamber embarked with this program by collaboratively searching for regional solutions to challenges facing San Joaquin County and their businesses. Simply put, assisting businesses in “going green" will not only reduce their costs of doing business, but it will also help the environment and move the San Joaquin County economy forward. The Green Team is actively involved with business leaders, community leaders and others to increase the awareness of available

and career-readiness. In San Joaquin County, this is evident in dynamic apprenticeship programs preparing students to join the workforce, and it can be seen in the innovative curricula and programs preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow. Students are learning 21st-century job skills in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) programs that are thriving in schools and districts across the county. The SJCOE’s STEM Programs Department provides support for this innovation. They provide training for teachers and opportunities for students, like the new Engineering and Design Center providing access to the computers, 3D printers and other tools to help students learn about science, engineering, and robotics. Career and technical education has never been more important, and local schools are giving it the attention it deserves through a wide array of programs and a network of partnerships with local business and the trades. Young men and women are acquiring the skills they need for good careers through job-training and apprenticeship programs. The SJCOE is doing its part with programs like the Greater Valley Conservation Corps. They
