loves children. As an employer, he and Mrs. Claus work together in their family business, he trusts his employees to get the job done, and they are, of course, members of the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce. Ho Ho Ho. It is heartwarming to witness the philanthropy that occurs in our community during the holidays. Dameron Hospital’s staff adopted over three-hundred children last year by purchasing items from a wish list, with some children asking for something as simple as a pillow or as necessary as food. There isn’t a dry eye in the room as we read the the Recyclers.” Admission is a toy for the Child Abuse Prevention Council. Churches, nonprofits, and private citizens of our community truly exhibit love of mankind by ensuring our children, families, and seniors needs are met. If you are looking for giving opportunities visit the Greater Stockton Chamber website to find nonprofit members who will guide you in your year-end and holiday giving. Shop Local! Many of us (me) fall into the convenience of shopping online but let’s make a concerted effort to shop local for those special gifts. There are shops listed in this issue who carry unique items you can actually examine before purchasing. We ask our local merchants to support our nonprofits and schools all year long—in turn let’s support them. One great benefit I must mention is the employment and tax-revenue generated by shopping local. Gillian Murphy, 2017 ATHENA Recipient, cited that every $100 spent in local small businesses results in $68 back the community, local big box stores $48, and online purchases generate $0. That is an astounding fact that should give pause to those online shoppers before hitting the enter button. Be sure to seek out our members and mention you shopped with them because they are members of the GSCC. Santa will be watching to see who has been naughty or nice. The Annual Diversity Mixer at the beautifully decorated Haggin Museum is the perfect occasion to hug our friends and colleagues at this most treasured time of year. Shopping in the Haggin Museum Gift Shop is a plus. The food is fabulous, and camaraderie amongst the Chambers in serving our business community is pleasing to behold. Looking back on 2017, our country endured monumental loss whether it be by Mother Nature or manmade. American’s are generous and compassionate people but the need is

Session Sponsors: Port of Stockton, Green Team San Joaquin Stockton’s economy is influenced by many factors. During the annual Economy Session, the class got a glimpse of a few of those factors, and learned about what lies ahead for Stockton’s future. The class met at the Port of Stockton Albert Lindley House—what a perfect venue to talk about the economy. After a quick welcome and history lesson by Chamber CEO Doug Wilhoit the first presenter of the day was Bruce Blodgett, Executive Director, with the San Joaquin Farm Bureau Federation (SJFB). Bruce talked about agriculture, our #1 local industry at $2.3 Billion in 2016, and how that drives our local economy. He addressed current issues and recent successes, and provided a glimpse of what he sees for the future of local agriculture. Next up were Nate McBride, Director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Ed Wanket, Economic Development Analyst II, San Joaquin County Economic Development Association (EDA). Nate and Ed detailed all of the great services the SBDC and EDA offer to local business to help them succeed. The Class was then joined by Wes Rhea, CEO of Visit Stockton and
