recognize this work ethic, Labor Day was created as an annual national tribute to social and economic achievements American workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Most likely all of us have memories of family members coming home with the smell of sweat and dirt after a day’s work to provide a good life for their families. This Port O Call cover brings back so many memories of hanging out at the truck yard with my Dad and his drivers. I can almost smell the diesel. A day set aside to thank these men and women who make sure our electricity is on, our water flows, our phones work, our homes don’t blow over in the wind, and do those jobs we cannot do for ourselves (or don’t want to) is both patriotic and meaningful. Thank you, American worker! The GSCC didn’t stop working over the summer. Cherokee Memorial Park hosted

One of the ways for a business to get started down the road of sustainability is to schedule a REACON visit. The REACON team is comprised of practitioners that will come in and provide ideas on what you can do to reduce your operational costs. The complimentary 30 minute visit also provides the Chamber an opportunity to find out what is keeping you up at night as far as your business is concerned. Celebrating Stockton’s Hardworking Industries BY: ASHLEY STINSON

W

ith September rolling around

once again, it’s time for Stockton’s Annual Industrial Technology Barbecue. Celebrating its 53rd year, the Annual Industrial Technology Barbecue is a chance to recognize businesses who have moved their operations to San Joaquin County, or who have expanded their already present operations in the area. Awards will be given to industrial businesses that have either added jobs in the county, expanded their business by a certain square footage, or made a significant capital investment. To qualify for the awards, industrial businesses must have added twenty new jobs or more in San Joaquin County, created at least twenty thousand square feet of new or expanded roofed facility area in San Joaquin County, or have invested one million dollars or more in capital in the county. Businesses must have been in operation before July 1 of this year. The honorees for the 53rd Annual Industrial Technology Barbecue include
