ABOUT US STOCKTON RIVERSIDE COLLEGE
Stockton Riverside College delivers exceptional teaching at its sites across Teesside. Our Higher Education courses are delivered at our Teesdale site and SRC Bede Sixth Form in Billingham. A typical class size is between 12 and 20 students, this means that you will benefit from a personal and supportive learning environment.
HE CENTRE
The College has dedicated HE study facilities which are exclusive to our Higher Education students. The Higher Education centre and Higher Education study and resource room both provide learning and social space that can be used for independent work and networking with fellow students. With IT equipment and Higher Education dedicated resource materials this is a popular space for our Higher Education students. You will also be able to make use of the College’s leisure facilities including cafes and restaurant, beauty salon, hair studio and sports centre access.

REDCAR & CLEVELAND COLLEGE At Redcar & Cleveland College we offer the highest standards of teaching and learning in stand-out facilities. Our friendly and dedicated staff are highly qualified and experienced and with class sizes of around 12 to 20 students you will enjoy an individual and personal environment for your studies.
HIGHER EDUCATION CENTRE
The College has a purpose-built Higher Education Centre sponsored by Teesside University and the Sir William Turner Foundation, offering universitystandard facilities. The Higher Education Centre includes a 250seat lecture theatre with advanced audiovisual technologies, dedicated ICT, specialist engineering workshops and learning resource facilities for the exclusive use of higher-level students. Spacious, comfortable and conducive to study, the centre features relaxation areas and quiet study zones. There is also secure on-site car parking.

Our Higher Education students also have access to the college’s main leisure facilities, including the hair and beauty salon, a sport and fitness centre, refectory and coffee shop.

Our Higher Education students have access to our central Learning Resource Centre and our dedicated Higher Education quiet study area. The Higher Education study area features facilities designed to enhance the team working elements found in many higher and degree level courses including team study pods and enhanced ICT facilities. Within the main learning resource centre students can utilise netbooks and laptops to access e-resources and specific Higher Education resources to help with their studies.

We offer a wide range of higher education and professional qualifications to help you reach your goals.
NVQs
National Vocational Qualifications are work-related, competence-based qualifications that are concerned with the skills and knowledge needed to do a job effectively.
Diplomas
Diplomas are work-related, competence-based qualifications reflecting the skills and knowledge needed to do a job. At level 4 and above you will acquire skills at technical, management and professional level. To undertake these programmes you need to be working in a relevant job role.
HNCs/HNDs
Higher National Certificates and Higher National Diplomas are designed specifically to provide skills/ career-based qualifications. They also enable people to progress to honours degree programmes.
Foundation degrees
Foundation degrees are one of the most flexible professional qualifications available. They allow you to develop specialist skills and knowledge in real workplace settings. Our part-time programmes provide a way of improving your qualifications and career prospects while you work. Foundation degrees are heavily employment-based and normally take two or three years of study. They are designed for students from a wide range of backgrounds, including those with previous experience rather than conventional entry requirements.
Degree and degree top-up programmes
On completion of our foundation degrees, you can progress on to the final top-up award which is a one year programme that takes your qualification up to a full degree programme and is provided in partnership with Teesside University. We offer a variety of top-up degree programmes at the colleges.
Teaching qualifications
We offer a variety of routes into teaching in the post-16 sector. The full-time route is a pre-service programme aimed at those who wish to teach literacy and/or numeracy. Practical experience gained on placement is an essential component of this programme. Our part-time routes can be undertaken on both an in-service or pre-service basis. Both lead to a nationally recognised qualification, the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education or the Certificate in Education Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector.

What will I study? You will develop your understanding of numbers and data with a focus on identifying maths in real life situations. You will develop a greater understanding of punctuation and grammar and learn about essay development as well as creating a UCAS university personal statement. You will also focus on personal progression, how you learn and what types of careers are available after studying at access and university level.
What will I study? You will develop your scientific knowledge and skills as well as improving your maths and English to the level 2 requirement. Units covered include: The Investigating Process, Principles and Practical Skills, Punctuation and Grammar Skills and Using Calculations.

How am I assessed? The course entails the production of a portfolio of evidence to show your newly developed skills. There are various methods of assessment such as presentations, essays, individual research and homework. Entry requirements: No formal qualifications are required. All applicants will be invited to attend an Access to Higher Education information session. This Level 2 Pre-Access Certificate is for students aged 19 and over who wish to progress to a degree programme and do not have the required qualifications. This course is not suitable for school leavers; please contact the college for other relevant courses.

ACCESS TO HE Our Access Diploma to Higher Education courses offer those without the traditional qualifications for entry into university the chance to develop their skills and knowledge in preparation for the demands of higher education. There is no upper age limit and most Access courses are part-time and can be completed in one year.

ACCOUNTING AAT LEVEL 4 PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTING

The AAT accounting qualification gives you the skills to work in a wide range of accounting and finance positions. The course is open to anyone who has completed the AAT Advanced Diploma qualification or equivalent.
ACCA is the global body for professional accountants. This course is designed to offer business relevant, first choice qualifications to students of application, ability and ambition who seek a rewarding career in accountancy, finance and management.

What will I study? Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Part-time, one year
What will I study? The programme consists of the following six modules: • Performance Management • Taxation • Audit • Law

This qualification may be studied flexibly by undertaking individual modules and completing the full qualification over a period of time.

How am I assessed? Through nationally-set examinations.

• Credit Management How am I assessed? Six nationally-set computer-based examinations. Entry requirements: AAT Advanced Diploma qualification or equivalent. You are also required to register with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). What’s next? Full completion of AAT Level 4 Diploma in Accounting would enable you to progress on to ACCA.
Entry requirements: The course is open to anyone who has completed the AAT Level 4 Professional Diploma in Accounting qualification or anyone holding a relevant degree or other qualification. Other exceptions may be available subject to ACCA agreement. What’s next? This innovative programme with an excellent bespoke design is one of only a handful in the North of England and offers students the opportunity to combine modules from across the aviation, travel and tourism sectors. What will I study? Year one modules – Level 4: • Aviation Sector Operations • Introduction to Strategic Marketing in Aviation & Tourism • Technology in Aviation & Tourism • Managing Human Resources • Analysing Financial Performance • Personal & Professional Development Year two modules – Level 5: • Aviation Sector Management • Aviation & Tourism Service Sector Management • Tourism Destination Development • Global Business Operations in Aviation & Tourism • Work Related Research Project (Modules offered may vary)

Both in-course and end of course assessments including reports, essays, projects, case studies, examination, individual or group presentations, group activity and a personal development portfolio. Entry requirements: Entry requirements are 40-48 tariff points and English and Mathematics at level 2. CVs/references/CPD Records/APL/AEPL will be assessed for non-traditional applicants who may have subject specific or related qualifications (that may not carry points on the UCAS tariff). What’s next? You can go on to find work in a wide range of roles including cabin crew, tour operations, conference and events management. BEAUTY VTCT LEVEL 4 DIPLOMA IN ADVANCED BEAUTY THERAPY Part-time, one year
The Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Beauty Therapy is a vocationally related qualification that is focused on advanced beauty practices. What will I study? You will learn beauty practices including using intense light and laser treatments to reduce hair growth and using intense light and microdermabrasion for skin rejuvenation. You will also develop an understanding of product chemistry, the physiology of ageing and the principles of dermatology and microbiology. The course also covers salon management, with the opportunity to learn about management functions such as public relations, marketing and research. How am I assessed? You will be assessed on your occupational competence. Assessment is ongoing and based mainly on your portfolio of evidence, practical observation, assignments, presentations, work packages and tests. Entry requirements: You need a level 3 qualification in Beauty Therapy. A formal interview and initial assessment is also required before acceptance to ensure the course is suitable. What’s next? On completion of the Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Beauty Therapy you could progress into higher education or into employment within the beauty industry. If you’re planning to study a level 3-6 further education course or access to higher education course you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. Students will be able to apply for a loan to meet the upfront costs of their qualification, which will be paid directly to the college on their behalf. This is a great way to access courses that previously, for financial reasons, may have been out of reach.

PART-TIME STUDENT FINANCE Eligible new part-time students undertaking designated Higher Education courses can take out a yearly tuition fee loan from Student Finance England. Your course will be free at the point of entry and you only make repayments if you are earning over £25,000** per year once you have completed your course. The courses in this guide that are designated for tuition fees are: First Degrees Foundation Degrees Higher National Certificates The amount of fee loan a student can apply for cannot exceed the fee charged by the university.
ELIGIBILITY FOR PART-TIME TUITION FEE LOAN To be eligible for financial support for a part-time undergraduate course you must meet certain criteria: • Y ou must have settled status in the UK i.e. be a UK citizen or have been granted indefinite leave to remain by the Home Office • Y ou must also have lived in the country for at least three years prior to the beginning of your course. This does not apply to people granted refugee status • Y ou must be enrolled on a course which is at least the equivalent of 25% (normally a minimum of at least 30 credits) of a full-time course • Your course must last for at least one year Equivalent Level Qualification • Y ou are not entitled to the part-time tuition fee loan if you already have a qualification that is equal to or higher than the qualification you wish to study For further information and advice about loan applications visit: www.gov.uk/student-finance **As of April 2018
