We are part of the new Teesside University College Partnership (TUCP). This means that many of our higher education courses are delivered in partnership with the University, giving our students the benefit of more than 80 years of knowledge and experience delivering professional qualifications.

Our LRCs provide a high quality service with facilities designed to enhance the teamwork elements found in many higher and degree level courses, including team study areas. You will have access to a wide range of ICT facilities and our dedicated LRC teams are always on hand to offer support. LEISURE FACILITIES

As a higher education student you will also be able to make use of the colleges’ leisure facilities including the refectories, restaurant, the beauty salon, hair studio and high specification Techno Gym equipment/sports centre access. VLE

All of our students have access to a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) that can be accessed remotely. This provides a useful way of communicating with your tutor and accessing programme materials. TECHNOLOGY

All of our sites are packed with some of the most advanced technology available to meet the demands of your course. This includes enhanced ICT facilities, sport science equipment, and industry-standard tools and kit, all housed in our purpose-built workshops.

ABOUT US

At Stockton Riverside College check out our Margaret Armstrong Theatre and dance studio. This is where our Performing Arts students perfect the skills of their trade as well as discovering the technical demands of life backstage. The Theatre is stage to a wide range of spectacular student performances as well as a selection of visiting professional shows.

All of our higher education students have access to our Learning Resource Centres, situated at each site. Here you will have access to an extensive range of learning materials to support you in your studies in a friendly, welcoming and engaging environment.

Our fantastic range of specialist kit supporting our engineering courses at Redcar & Cleveland College. This includes: a Didactic modular IPC-200 industrial process control rig, DCS control system software, an ABB industry standard robotic arm and dedicated NEBOSH room for health and safety training.

National Vocational Qualifications are work-related, competence-based qualifications that are concerned with the skills and knowledge needed to do a job effectively.

Diplomas are work-related, competence-based qualifications reflecting the skills and knowledge needed to do a job. At level 4 and above you will acquire skills at technical, management and professional level. To undertake these programmes you need to be working in a relevant job role.

Foundation degrees (FdA/FdSc) are one of the most flexible professional qualifications available. They allow you to develop specialist skills and knowledge in real workplace settings. Our part-time programmes provide a way of improving your qualifications and career prospects while you work. Foundation degrees are heavily employment-based and normally take two years of study. They are designed for students from a wide range of backgrounds, including those with previous experience rather than conventional entry requirements.

Professional programmes You can also study for higher education qualifications awarded by professional bodies. These programmes are excellent preparation for careers in accounting, business, financial services and human resource management or for further developing your skills and knowledge.

Foundation degrees

On completion of our foundation degrees, you can progress on to the final top-up award which is a one year programme that takes your qualification up to a full degree programme and is provided in partnership with Teesside University. We offer a variety of top-up degree programmes at the colleges.

Teaching qualifications We offer a variety of routes into teaching in the post-16 sector. The full-time route is a pre-service programme aimed at those who wish to teach literacy and/or numeracy. Practical experience gained on placement is an essential component of this programme.

COURSES

Higher National Certificates and Higher National Diplomas are designed specifically to provide skills/career-based qualifications. They also enable people to progress to honours degree programmes.

Degree and degree top-up programmes

Our part-time routes can be undertaken on both an in-service or pre-service basis. Both lead to a nationally recognised qualification, the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education or the Certificate in Education Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector.

Length: Part-time, one year Entry Requirements: AAT Advanced Diploma qualification or equivalent. You are also required to register with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). Location: The AAT accounting qualification gives you the skills to work in a wide range of accounting and finance positions. The course is open to anyone who has completed the AAT Advanced Diploma qualification or equivalent.

Employers and education establishments alike, recognise the importance of being able to use English skills in a functional way and most state level 2 as an essential entry requirement. This means being able to apply reading, writing and communication skills to everyday working and living situations. In Functional English you can learn to write in different styles using different formats, brush up on your basics (spelling, grammar and punctuation), improve your reading skills and learn how to communicate confidently and effectively, both verbally and in writing. A Functional Skills qualification in English will be tailored to meet your individual needs and will focus on developing your key areas for improvement in a way that will provide you with more opportunities to access jobs and education courses. A GCSE English Language qualification is an essential entry requirement for many jobs and higher education courses but is also the perfect way to reignite an interest in English. Throughout the course, you will develop your analytical skills in a way that compliments most higher education courses. Furthermore, as part of the GCSE you will develop your ability to write in a range of formats and for different purposes.

Key Facts about higher apprenticeships: • You’ll spend most of the week at work (a minimum of 30 hours) watching, learning and getting stuck in • You’ll also spend time attending college or training at work • Over the past three years, 56,200 people have started a higher or degree apprenticeship. ADVANCED LEARNER LOANS

If you’re planning to study a level 3-6 further education course or access to higher education course you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. Students will be able to apply for a loan to meet the upfront costs of their qualification, which will be paid directly to the College on their behalf. This is a great way to access courses that previously, for financial reasons, may have been out of reach. Things you need to know: • You need to be a UK resident and aged over 19 • Advanced Learner Loans are not means tested or credit checked • Funds are paid directly to the learning provider • Minimum amount £300 (maximum depends upon the course chosen) • You must enrol on an eligible course • Bursaries may be available for extra support for childcare* • Applications can be made from April, online with Students Loans Company for courses starting in September • Repayments only start when earning an annual salary of £25k or more. This loan application is a credit agreement between you and the Student Loans Company *Subject to change

PART-TIME STUDENT FINANCE

Eligible new part-time students undertaking designated higher education courses can take out a yearly tuition fee loan from Student Finance England. Your course will be free at the point of entry and you only make repayments if you are earning over £25,000 per year once you have completed your course. To be eligible for financial support for a parttime undergraduate course you must meet certain criteria: • You must have settled status in the UK i.e. be a UK citizen or have been granted indefinite leave to remain by the Home Office • You must also have lived in the country for at least three years prior to the beginning of your course. This does not apply to people granted refugee status • You must be enrolled on a course which is at least the equivalent of 25% (normally a minimum of at least 30 credits) of a fulltime course • Your course must last for at least one year Equivalent Level Qualification • You are not entitled to the part-time tuition fee loan if you already have a qualification that is equal to or higher than the qualification you wish to study
