Welcome to the 9th edition of Stockholm Fringe Festival Fringe - an act of resistance
Today, the world needs to elevate and make space for real, unique and uncorrupted stories about our society and history presented by brave artists who dare to speak the truth. Our strong belief is that the existence and importance of art cannot be valued; at the same time the value of art is in it’s true independence. Self-determining fringe platforms are needed more than ever in order to give artists and audiences a chance to interact beyond existing cultural conventions. Since its beginning in Scotland 1947, cemented by an artistic revolution against the ruling ‘cultural order’, the Fringe platform has relentlessly and proudly given space to those who speak their truth, without any burden of having to do so within a framework of potential political, personal, religious or creative precedent. The annual Stockholm based Fringe arena, STOFF 2018, offers a wide selection of voices ranging from a global performance icon to emerging talent and debuting acts. We are thrilled to offer our audience such a fine and diverse selection of creative geniuses across many genres. Local and international dance, film, immersive experiences, music, performance, stand-up, site specific, spoken word, theatre, virtual reality, visual art, workshops and STOFFnet artist speed dating, debates and talks are on offer 11th-15th of Sep. across seven venues across the city of Stockholm. We are proud to put independent talent centre stage as part of the growing Nordic Fringe Network (NFN) with sister festivals in Bergen, Gothenburg, Lahti, Reykjavik, Turku, Zagare and of course Stockholm! Team STOFF 2018 salutes our artists, partners and funding bodies who make our global talent showcase possible! Thank you for your ongoing and generous support! A Fringe’s definition of what it takes to be an artist seldom conforms with existing labels and pigeonholes. Our artists are equal parts artistic heroes, inspirational and curious troublemakers! STOFF 2018 consists of free and ticketed events. The information for each individual show will specify whether the event is free or ticketed.
Free Events These include STOFFnet panels talks, debates, visual art and some performance showcases at the C.off, Bångska Våningen, Högkultur and site specific work. YoungSTOFF activities are also free of charge!

2011 gör polisen ett tillslag i en lägenhet på Kungsholmen i Stockholm, efter att grannarna larmat om en stank. I den 28m2 stora lägenheten finner de 11 levande svanar. Hela flocken bor där tillsammans med en kvinna. Detta handlar om henne.
En kraftfull och tankeväckande soloföreställning som utförs med intensiv fysikalitet och teatralitet. Den är grundad på idén om den påtvingade användningen av kroppen som en vara till salu, med hänvisning till sexuellt utnyttjande av kvinnor.
In 2011, the police forces an apartment at Kungsholmen in Stockholm after the neighbors alerted a stench. In the 28m2 large apartment they find 11 living swans. The whole flock lives there with a woman. This is about her.
A powerful and thought provoking solo performance performed with intense physicality and theatricality. It is routed on the idea of the forced use of the body as a commodity for sale, with reference to the sexual exploitation of women.

I denna dansfilm försöker en familj att klara sig genom den veckovisa dagligvaruhandeln utan att falla sönder.
I ett multidisciplinärt verk, med video och installation, presenterar jag en satirisk fiktiv värld baserad på dagens samhälle. Genom att sammanfläta olika element upplever betraktaren en bild i ständig rörelse .
Ett latinskt substantiv som betyder “tomhet” och “fåfänga”. Och reser således till en åsikt om det jordiska livet och den värdelösa naturen hos alla jordiska varor och sysslor. Betalar för fåfängans synder.
Through a variety of elements, including video and installation, I portray a satirical imaginary space based on our presentday society. By layering different elements together, the viewer experiences a constructed ever-evolving image.
A latin noun that means “empitness” and “vanity. And thus travel to a view of earthly life and the worthless nature of all earthly goods and pursuits. Paying for the sin of vanity.

Riot Grrrl Sessions är ett musik och konstprojekt i Stockholm, Sverige. Sept 2017 träffas ett gäng punk och rockmusiker i en studio under en helg för att skriva, repa och spela in världens första Riot Grrrl Sessions album. Förutom att man fick många nya vänskaper och hade massa kul resulterade detta i “The First Session”., ett album med 13 låtar. Samtliga medverkande både i och utanför studion är kvinnor, icke-binär eller trans.
Vad symboliserar det att ständigt vara upptagen? Är “upptagen” relaterat till vårt egenvärde? Evie Demetrious leker med en narrativ och absurd form och ställer frågan: Vad blir konsekvenserna av den ständiga stressen på kroppen och jaget.

Riot Grrrl Sessions is a music and art project in Stockholm, Sweden. In September 2017 a dozen punk and rock musicians joined forces in a studio for one weekend to write, rehearse and record the worlds first Riot Grrrl Sessions. Besides making new friends, jamming and having a lot of fun this session resulted in a 13 track album, “The First Session”. Everyone involved in this project from musicians to label to graphic designer to sound engineers are women, non-binary or transgender people.
Does being constantly busy symbolises something? Is “being busy” related to our self-worth? Playing with both abstraction and narration the performance of Evie Demetriou questions the consequences of being busy on the body and the self.

THE NORDIC FRINGE NETWORK A Nordic Notion growing in numbers!
The Nordic Fringe Network (NFN) initiative is aiming to simplify systems and provide economical touring opportunities for artists applying to one or more of the Fringe festivals in the Nordic region. Since it’s 2017 launch the Nordic Fringe Network has expanded! Current member festivals:

The project aims to develop and refine our growing network through a series of seminars and workshops across our region. Young Stoff is the festival’s youth initiative, which focuses on young people’s creativity and artistry. We want to highlight tomorrow’s artists by offering a platform where young artists can experiment and present new work. A strong voice speaking out on issues concerning art and politics through creative stories. It is the heart of the festival that originates from the idea of young people´s right to experience and produce art. The Fringe wants to be involved in creating new opportunities for young artists today, through different collaborations and projects. Through artist speed dating and workshops, artists have the opportunity to find new networks and inspirations. This year, Young Stoff collaborates with Studiefrämjandet and Kulturskolan Unga berättar. Unga Berättar is an activity within the Stockholm School of Culture. The goal is to strengthen children and young people’s participation in society. The method changes depending on the project, but they always stem from the personal story. Children and youth’s voices are heard through digital stories, movies, photographs or other creative expressions. Participants are involved in the whole process in a true and joyful manner. Stockholm Fringe Festival (stoff) is a multidisciplinary arts festival, acting as a ‘stage’ for local and international artists to present their innovative work ranging from performance to installation art and anything in between. The festival stands for artistic freedom and focuses on out-of-the-box and “alternative” works that may not fit into mainstream performance or exhibition spaces. STOFF is a chance for arts practitioners to test new ideas, network and collaborate with other artists, develop work, and get inspired by many different creative expressions. Not only is STOFF about encouraging emerging artists who are developing their craft but also welcomes established groups and individuals whose work promotes innovative work practices. Through international guest appearances like The Infernal Comedy with John Malkovich, Forced Entertainment, Christeene, Mykki Blanco, Peaches and The Wooster Group, the festival wishes to bridge the gap between the established and the emerging.
