I like fish, but.... The second question we are usually asked is what’s with the name? So here it is; everyone has some time in their life where they get challenged regarding how they look, or feel. For a good amount of us High School is one of those times. And that’s why the name. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to stand out from the crowd, to be a ‘big fish’. We were tired of seeing the typical boring senior pictures where you look exactly like everyone else. Everyone is different, this is a good thing. We want the opportunity to showcase that in a positive way. If we can help someone come out of their shell and shine then we’ve succeeded. As for the group thing, that’s because it’s not the Jesse Cole or Levi show. We don’t need to stand out, we get a kick of helping others do it. It’s also not just us. We collaborate with other photographers around the world sometimes they stay for a month, sometimes a year. We love to help other photographers pick up small things to help them grow their own business’. This also gives you the choice on who shoots you. Like our personalities, our shooting styles are different, but cohesive. Rest assured that no matter who you choose to photograph you you’ll have an experience of a lifetime.

What's The plan?

At BFP we like to have a plan. Everything planned out so that there aren’t any surprises. To be honest we like our backup plan to have it’s own backup. The one thing we like to figure out organically is the pictures themselves. Pick where to go of course, but once your there, shoot what looks good. Find the spot that works for the senior. Don’t make them take pictures somewhere they aren’t comfortable. The last thing any of us wants is to shoot the senior leaning up against a tree in the park. Sorry, but we wont do it. With that in mind we break down our shoots into three parts.

PreProduction This phase is all about getting ready. We do a phone call where you pick your shoot type, book a date/time, decide if you want makeup and generally go over all the details for your shoot.

Production The best part, the actual shoot! This refers to the actual shoot(s) itself.

PostProduction After the shoot is over we go into what’s called Post. During this part Levi and I sit down and take a look at all your images and start working them out. We on average take around 400-500 shots per shoot. We will narrow it down to about 100-150 of the best ones. From there we will have a review session where you will come into the studio and pick out the ones you like best, usually taking about an hour or so. At this time we place your order and have them delievered to you within 2 weeks.

The SHOOT El Capitan

$300

El Capitan, like the mountain in California is a beast. For this shoot we go a bit crazy really. We shoot for 3.5-4 hours not including makeup. Usually we shoot at 5 to 6 different locations, often finding a spot with a good variety of different looks within walking distance. Because we have the time Levi and I get to play around with light and can be a bit more experimental, most offing resulting in our best work. Typically we shoot only on location but in-studio time can be substituted. This usually allows for 4-5 outfit changes.

Cosmopolitan

$200

Cosmo is how we like to refer getting out into the city and having some fun. This shoot last’s for about 2.5-3 hours and includes 3 locations, not including makeup. This is great for someone that generally likes photography but ins’t in dire need of a model-esk shoot. We find a few fun spots that allow for variety but without taking up someones whole day.

Keepin’ It Real

$125

We created this shoot for the senior that just needs something basic. They don’t keep to go crazy, just need a few decent shots for the yearbook, wallets and Facebook. We shoot for about an hour (sans makeup) and can either do on location or in studio. This usually allows for 1-2 outfit changes.

Professional MAKEUP Makeup seems like such a simple thing, but in places like Phoenix and Seattle it becomes crazy important. In both Phoenix and Seattle your likely to melt, in both cities for different reasons. In our mind having someone there to keep an eye specifically on how your senior’s makeup looks it key. Our artist will be with us the entire shoot and can do touch ups between locations. And if you want a different style for a specific outift then no worries, allowing her to be creative makes her happy!

On that note allow us to introduce Brielle Bishop, makeup and beautry extrordianiar. She graduated from the Southwest Institute of Natural Aesthetics and is very knowledgable in the field of skin care and makeup artistry. Her styles range from natural looking makeup for senior pictures to cosplay makeup for her fellow Deadites and gamers. She’s been published in Angelic magazine, has worked the Brave Wings Fashion Show in Scottsdale, and has her own makeup Instagram and blog up and running to showcase her work. She’s an awesome human and your senior will love her!

MAKEUP

CLOTHING

An y Suggestions? Tres important! Bring at least 8 outfits. We will then mix and match them to find the right piece for the locations we will be shooting. Also make sure to bring at least one black and one white top. More often than not, a crazy print or pattern will just distract from keeping you the center of attention, so solids are best. Unless you’re doing it on purpose, always make sure things match, such as socks. You don’t want to look back in three years and your crazy pink and yellow socks are now no longer as funny. Also make sure it’s clean, and not too wrinkly. Consider what kind of clothes make you look best. If people are always commenting on how great you look in a certain type of jeans, don’t decide to wear corduroy to the shoot. Ask your friends, parents, random strangers on the street – anyone – what outfits make you stand out in a good way. One thing to keep in mind is thin spaghetti straps can often cause shoulders to look heavier than they actually are.

Unless we are specifically going for a glamour type shoot, then apply your makeup normally, and go easy on the eyeliner (think of Richard from Lost). The way you do your makeup for a date is usually the best. Just remember the camera will often pick up those subtle makeup details you usually don’t notice. Also, bring a little bit of powder with you. We are in Phoenix and it can get hot. It’s much easier to add a little powder then try to remove a sheen in Photoshop. If you’ve chosen to have our makeup artist with us then no worries. She’ll be with us during the whole shoot to make sure you look awesome! And blemishes are no big deal. We can always take care of them.

An y more suggestions?

These things are no big deal and nothing to be embarrassed about. This is an area we can talk about options, either how the photos are shot or how they are touched up.

GLASSES

Glasses can be both a good and bad thing. Don’t worry if they are causing drama, we can take out the lenses.

HAIR

This is not the time to change your hair style. Unless you’re hitting your annual recolorization pattern, then leave it alone. Again, think of how you would do your hair for a first date. You want to look like this is the hair you always have. Don’t cut your hair a week before the shoot. You usually need time to adjust to styling your new length.

Remember you will have these pictures forever, and nothing dates an image like a piece of trendy jewelry. Whatever you bring, make sure you’ll be happy seeing those same earrings or watch for the rest of your life. That doesn’t mean don’t wear any, just be very picky about it.

TANNING

Please do not get a spray tan the day before a shoot, it causes glare on the lens. Just playing…but seriously. If you want to get a bit of a tan before you take your pictures, that’s cool (ha ha), but give it a couple of weeks before the shoot. Someone showing up sunburned complicates all our lives.

Little Q N' A Do you photograph guys? Yes we do! Guys tend not to be as enthused about the idea of having pictures taken so we more often than not shoot girls. But some of our best work has been with guys, so don’t feel shy! We will make it as painless as possible.

How do payments work? We can take any form of payment, We prefer legal tender in the U.S., although we’ve done shoots where the parents just came back from France and had a grip of extra Euros. Levi and I travel to Europe to shoot quite freuqnetly so we are easy :). For our senior sessions though we reuqire half of the shoot fee at the time of booking and the second half on the day of the shoot. For printed products and such we take payment at the time of ordering.

Are photoshop friendly are you? We believe strongly in the power of PhotoShop to resolve issues, not solve emotional drama. Most humans have something about themsevlves they don’t like. We do our best to make everything look awesome in camera. But sometimes things have to be fixed later. For example, it could be something as little as your hair was in your eyes and it distracted from your face, in that situation we will take care of it. But we will never do any drastic reshaping without your express permission. We want you to look like how we see you. And trust us, you’re beautiful,

When will my prints be ready? Unless we are doing something crazy everything should be ready within two weeks. Sometimes albums can take 3-4 depending on the style. Other things such as custom print sizes can also add a bit But we love custome orders to please let us know if you want something different.
