Just when you thought Tax Season was behind you… Bexar County sent everyone a nice surprise in the mailbox the end of April. Just in time for the great selling season in San Antonio…2015 Notices of Appraised Values. This is the statement that tells homeowners what Bexar County has appraised their property for the next tax assessment to be paid in December. This is a very important statement to all homeowners so read it carefully. It is what you will pay for property taxes and if you have a mortgage on your home and escrow your taxes, it will change your payments in the future. Property values going up is a good thing and it shows San Antonio’s market is doing well, but remember, Texas is a “non-disclosure state” meaning we don’t disclose our sales data so Bexar County Appraisal Value is not “market” value it is only what the county is appraising for tax purposes.
So what should you do if you believe your “Appraised Value” is too high? It is simple…Protest your value. You received instructions with the appraisal and if you need a comparative market analysis of your home to help with the protest, feel free to call me and I or my team can help. It is quick and simple to fill out the form – but don’t miss the deadline June 1, 2015 or it could be VERY costly.
