From childhood, I’ve always been happiest when doing something creative. I went on to study Photography and Media which led to my degree in TV Production. After graduating with first class honours, I worked my way up to the position of TV Producer for an art and craft broadcasting company. Work involved meeting creative business owners and producing shows that demonstrated their craft. Though my job was considered a creative role, I yearned for the weekends where I spent my time making the craft projects I’d seen at work. I realised that being physically creative with my hands was what I enjoyed most. I became desperate to start my own business but knew that it needed to happen organically. I hadn’t long moved into a new home with my now husband. On a trip to drop things at the dump I saw some G Plan side tables being thrown away. I couldn’t believe anyone would chuck furniture like that, so I took them home. With family members in the woodwork trade, I took their advice (and tools!) to refurbish the tables. I was so pleased with the results and began looking for more items to restore. After filling our home with furniture. I realised that so many other people want their homes to be unique, but don’t have the time or tools to source and restore furniture themselves. That’s where the idea for my business began, back in 2016.

I realised that being physically creative with my hands was what I enjoyed most.

I have always enjoyed art & design after studying it at school & university and I was keen to get back into it.

After my two young children started school, I found the days that were previously spent changing nappies and endlessly treading on Lego, were replaced with school drop off and pick up’s; I realised it was time for me to do something I really enjoyed and to find something creative that I am passionate about. I have always enjoyed art & design after studying it at school & university and I was keen to get back into it. I set up Cocoa & Bing in May 2020; in short - it is a furniture upcycling business, but focussed on creating unique and individual items of design.
