LGBTQ Health Initiative at Columbus Public Health was created to address gaps in care and issues of health inequity in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning communities. The initiative consists of several components including a cultural competency training program for healthcare professionals and other service providers; the Greater Columbus LGBTQ Health Coalition, which is a consortium of providers and community leaders with the goal of fostering positive health and safety outcomes within the city’s gender and sexually diverse communities; and healthcare promotion and prevention programing, including the Ohio LGBTQ Youth Safety Summit and annual support of the Columbus Pride Parade & Festival. A representative of the LGBTQ Health Initiative at Columbus Public Health will be present.

Group discussions may include benefits, claims, military experiences, present relationships, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, military sexual trauma and other topics of concerns to members. Focus will be put on “peer-to-peer support” and open exchange of “shared experience” in a safe and welcoming community environment. The AIAM will be represented by nursing and acupuncture students and staff. The nursing students will be performing Blood Pressures and discussing nutrition and movement, plus relaxation. Dr. Hong Chen, Licensed Acupuncturist and students will be on hand to perform auricular therapy or “ear seeding.” Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, ear seeding is widely used for addiction treatment, obesity, pain, mood disorders, and other conditions.
