News from Roecroft Lower School
What a delightful autumn it has been, the sun mixed with the beautiful colours on the trees has made for a rather picturesque few months. School has been a hive of activity, not only from a teaching and learning perspective, but also a community one. We have welcomed in our families on numerous occasions, enjoyed fundraising activities and shared our learning through class assemblies. In addition, we have welcomed many external specialists to help enhance and bring areas of the curriculum to life for the children. Our Year 4 ambassadors have been out in force, representing the school in the local community and taking ownership of their new roles in school and setting excellent examples to the younger year groups.
This month we have an update from Miss Ashby, our Early Years lead professional: In September we welcomed our new cohort of children into Roecroft. They have settled into school brilliantly and are thoroughly enjoying their learning. During the first half of the Autumn term our topic in Reception was ‘ Marvellous Me!’ and our learning was based around the children themselves, their families, and where they live, how they have changed since they were born. Throughout this topic, the children have also been looking closely at their own features when drawing themselves and discussing what they would like to be when they grow up.

During the second half of the term our topic in Reception has been ‘Let’s Celebrate!’ We began the term by learning about Diwali, Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day and birthdays. We are now beginning our exciting Christmas activities and learning linked to this celebration that so many of us enjoy. We are looking forward to celebrating in school and are also very excited to perform our Christmas nativity ‘A Reception Christmas Cracker’ to our families and friends.
