Kings Baptist Church & Churches Together

Welcome to our January article from Minister Alistair Sanders of King’s Baptist Church.

Author Susan Beaumont says there is a danger of defining this time of disorientation and confusion “in terms of failure or loss… ” She says that, when we face uncertainty, we tend to go back to doing the same old thing that we have always done. In the gospel of John, we see Simon Peter doing that— He goes fishing. Fishing is what he has always done. It is where he is most comfortable. It is the most natural thing in the world for him to do. But he forgot that he wasn’t a fisherman anymore.

Another author (Selwyn Hughes) tells us, “There are many times in life when one has to face ambiguity and uncertainty. How a person handles the feelings that arise when this takes place will depend on how secure they are in Christ… ” The Bible encourages us to turn to God in our struggles: “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken… Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. ” (Psalm 62:5–8)

SJFC Girls Under 14’s New Kit Sponsors

Stotfold Junior Football Club were proud to host The Stotfold & Arlesey Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) at one of their senior matches against Bedford on November 13th. The branch were able to promote their poppy appeal during and after the game. The RBL would like to thank Stotfold FC for enabling them to help promote their fundraising for 2021 and look forward to working together with the club in the near future. The match day itself was extra poignant as the Stotfold FC U14 Girls also used the opportunity to unveil their new Stotfold & Arlesey Branch RBL match strip during an exhibition match at half time.

The Stotfold FC U14 girls match kit was sponsored by the business of branch Poppy Appeal Coordinator and Membership Secretary Mr Phillip Johnys. A special logo was designed for the kits which you can see below. The logo will feature on the girls shirts for the duration of the next season. Phil told the Stotfold News Magazine ”‘I am extremely proud to sponsor the girls kit on behalf of the Stotfold & Arlesey Branch of the RBL and wish the girls the best of luck this season” Phil has chosen to use the RBL logo for the shirts to further promote the charity and to help increase awareness of this fantastic cause and hopes the shirt sponsorship will increase awareness of the local branch membership and activities.

Phil wishes it to be clear that no charity donations were used to sponsor the girls kit and all funding came solely from his own consulting business.

This year marks the 100th year of the poppy appeal. Since it was first worn as an act of remembrance the poppy has become an enduring symbol of support for our armed services, past and present. For 100yrs Remembrance has been a part of the fabric of our society, reminding us of our shared history and today continues to unite people across all backgrounds, communities, and generations If you would like to hear more about the branch activities and how to get involved Phil would welcome your call on 07973 376649.
