News from Etonbury Academy
As we approach the end of half term, I am delighted that we have been able to fulfil most activities and events despite the continuing challenges of the pandemic. The Matilda auditions are now complete, and we are awaiting the announcement of the cast and crew from our performing arts department. Watching the auditions was a sight to behold with so many students across all year groups eager to take part. Just what we have been waiting for, a whole school production to bring all our children together. We can’t wait to get the show on the road and invite our community into the school to enjoy it with us.
Etonbury Juniors have been on a trip to Duxford Imperial Air Museum, and we are delighted to have received a personal letter from them thanking us for the visit and them commenting on our students excellent conduct. Our Year 6s have been invited to take part in a competition to design a garden for a housing development in Arlesey, with the winning group seeing their garden come to life. An amazing experience exploring ecology and nature.

In Secondary our Year 9s have been selecting their GCSE/BTEC option choices and have been enjoying taster sessions during this half term. It’s been an excellent opportunity for them to get a real feel for the additional subjects that they can take, as well as hear from our specialist subject teachers. Students have also taken trips out to Warner Bros Studios to learn more about design and technology of film sets. In the Photography department students have been working on ‘Still Life’ and we hope to be displaying some of these across the school in the coming weeks.
Parents and staff have been working together online to discuss their child’s progress with their Mentor. This is an excellent programme involving all our children. They are assigned a member of staff to discuss their academic progress, understand what support they need and also recognise what they are achieving. The positive experience enables our staff to really get to know them, give them encouragement and keep them on track.
The continued interest from prospective parents/carers in our school over these weeks has brought many into school for tours with the Principal. We are incredibly proud of everything we have achieved and are delighted with the fantastic responses we receive following their experience.
New projects in the planning stages include a student and staff wellbeing garden kindly sponsored by Bedfordshire Schools Trust. Work has also started on our Sixth Form which is really exciting news for all our community. We are also working closely with The NEED Project to set up a pop up second hand uniform shop for the Etonbury parents/carers, a huge thank you to Gordon and his team for providing this support to make it happen. We look forward to sharing more detail with you as these projects develop.
