News from Roecroft Lower School
I hope you all enjoyed a restful Easter period with friends and family and indulged in treats aplenty. The whole school community enjoyed the two weeks of rest and have started the summer term with a bang, everyone is raring to go and already enjoying their learning. We are very much looking forward to a sunny summer term filled with the majority of our normal events and trips; welcoming our families back into school for some of these will be a wonderful feeling.
This term we have an update from our Key Stage 2 team:

In Year 3, we finished the Spring term with our first school trip of the year. The whole cohort made the trip to Queen’s Park in Bedford to visit three places of worship – a Gurdwara, Mosque and Church. This is a fantastic trip and one the school has been undertaking for many years now. It helps the children gain a better understanding of different religions and traditions and really helps bring the R.E. curriculum to life.
In History, the children have been learning about the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. The children loved learning about Viking warriors and the longboats they travelled in. We read several Viking stories and legends, and the children wrote their own versions of ‘Thor and the Stolen Hammer’ . The children have also been learning about food and nutrition. Using the school’s food technology room, the children made dough and then created their own pizzas. Everyone had a great time and the pizzas tasted delicious!
Year 4 have had an exciting start to summer term and their last term at Roecroft. In History, we are now exploring the ancient Egyptians. We started our topic with a fabulous Egyptian day, where the children had great fun being immersed in the period and exploring artefacts. In English, the children have loved reading ‘Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx’ and using their new-found knowledge to create their own mysterious Egyptian myths.
We also went on our two-day residential trip to Cuffley Camp! It was a brilliant experience staying in woodland pods and taking part in activities such as climbing and fire lighting. The children have made precious memories and relished the chance to stay away from home for the first time with all their school friends. We were so glad we could offer them this experience again this year. The children continue to have lots to look forward to in the coming months, as well as celebrating the end of their time at Roecroft, we have the Queen’s Jubilee to celebrate, our annual dance morning and the chance to complete a Bikeability training course in July.
