Beyond the tanks and artillery retired to the edges of what was once part of an active duty cavalry training post, is a story about the service of Pennsylvania’s “citizen soldiers.” Pennsylvania’s contributions to the national defense in the 20th century are narrated through the 28th Infantry Division Shrine and artifacts housed behind the Military Museum’s prominent facade of service ribbons. The shrine includes a World War I Memorial Wall dedicated to the officers of the Pennsylvania National Guard when it fought in France during the War to End All Wars. An additional Wall of Honor for World War II service honors both officer and enlisted personnel. Examine the organization of the Armed Forces and the Pennsylvania connection to each.
Museum Hours: Tuesday thru Saturday 1000 to 1600; Sunday 1200 to 1600

At the entrance of the museum ground s rest two 66ton, 14-inch gun barrels salvaged from the Super Dreadnought Battleship USS Pennsy lvania. The ship, which earned eight battle stars, was present at Pearl Harbor when she was attacked by the Japanese on 07DEC1941. In 1945, the Pennsylvan ia was refitted with new guns and the old guns were lost to time. They were re-discovered in 1999 by a retired naval officer who contacted the Pennsylvania Military Museum. After a decade of campaigning, the gun bar rels were finally brought to their new home in May 200 9. If you look close enough, you may see some nick s in one of the barrels that may have been the result of enemy fire.

THE FOURTH ANNUAL
The Centre County Youth Service Bureau is holding its 4th annual “Last Cruise” 5k Fun Run on July 30, 2011, in conjunction with the 26th annual “Last Cruise” Car and Motorcycle show at the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg, PA. The Centre County Youth Service Bureau provides a broad spectrum of community-based services to over 2,500 children, youth and their families in central Pennsylvania. The fund-raising activities of the Bureau have played an increasing role in our ability to offer and expand services in light of reduced federal funding. With 14 distinct programs, the YSB has been serving Centre County for 42 years. The LC5K is a fun way to help support these important local programs while competing for awards and prizes in a beautiful setting. Application available online at www.lastcruisestatecollege.com.
