to support the work of Sufficiency Economy project of STOU On 26 December 2015, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously granted an audience to STOU delegation led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chailerd Pichitpornchai, the President, along with the university executives, agriculturist leaders of the Sufficiency Economy project of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, at Ban Klong 14 School, Nakhon Nayok, in order to donate fund for the operation of the project. Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University has set up the Center for Distance Learning of Sufficiency Economy and has been operating under the Royal initiative of the sufficiency economy philosophy. Through the university distance learning system, STOU allows everyone access to both theoretical and practical learning. Experiences from sufficiency life idols and successful organizations are also shared to the public. The Center has cooperated with the Office of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Projects to promote the sufficiency life to communities countrywide, especially those in the northeastern Thailand. During 25-26 December 2014, STOU held a seminar for the university’s sufficiency economy project staff and agriculturist
leaders (Phase 1) at the conference hall at the STOU main campus. Acting Sub. LT. Kitti Khantamit, Grand Chamberlain, presided over to the opening ceremony. Over 100 participants from 22 communities from Northeastern Thailand had the chance to listen to special lectures from Mr. Wasan Kukiatkul and Mr. Chittakon Sampradit, Advisors of the Office of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Projects. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously granted a Royal audience during the seminar period in order to grant the Center fund to support its projects.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chailerd Pichitpornchai, President of STOU, presided over to the opening ceremony of the seminar “STOU Quality Management Development” at the conference room 5209 Seminar Building 1. Dr. Chailerd then gave a speech on educational quality assessment according to the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance. The seminar also included a speech on organizational management quality development delivered by Ms. Pornthip Kanchananiyot, former Executive Director of the Thailand-U.S. Educational Foundation (Fulbright). The seminar aimed to put across about the organizational management quality development in accordance with international standard and to determine some guidelines for a proper development of the university’s management quality. The seminar drew over 100 university executives and staff.

To celebrate its 36th anniversary, The STOU School of Liberal Arts organized arrays of academic seminar, discussion, lecture and knowledge sharing sessions. On 9 February 2015, a full-day seminar on “Evidence-based Library and Information Practice and Research Support Service for Academic Librarians” was held at Room 1607 Administration building. A merit making was done the following morning at the School of Liberal Arts. On 5 March 2015, a variety of academic programs was laid out as part of the celebration of the School’s 36th birthday. Early from 8.30, a speech on “Survival of the Liberal Arts in the Fast Moving World” by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Amara Prasithrathsint was presented. Later in the morning, Dr. M.R. Rujaya Abhakorn, SEAMEO SPAFA's Centre Director, gave a speech on “Origin of Liberal Arts Education in Higher Education.” Afternoon sessions included a discussion on “School of Liberal Arts and the Challenge of Digital Age” by The School’s senior advisors and an experience sharing on “Once in STOU” by Master’s and Doctoral graduates of the School of Liberal Arts, STOU. The event brought not only the faculty involved in the field of liberal arts, but also university staff, students, graduates and the public, who had the chance to listen to the beginnings, the milestones, and the future Liberal Arts would shape within higher education. Congratulations to the STOU School of Liberal Arts for the successful event, its beautiful 36 years and many more to come.
