On 20 November 2017, Associate Professor Dr. Panumas Kudngaongarm, Acting President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), Associate Professor Dr. Ranee Esichaikul, Acting Vice-President for Financial Affairs and Planning, and Ms. Rattip Phukkeson, Acting Head of International Affairs, attended the 20th Anniversary Event and the 2nd Work Conference of the UNESCO UNITWIN Network in Distance and Open Learning under the theme “Back to Future: Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Action for 2030� hosted by Shanghai Open University held in Shanghai, P.R.China.
The objective of this conference was to summarize the experience and achievements gained under the historical perspective, formulate an action plan for future development, and jointly promote the development of ODL. Moreover, Ms. Rattip Phukkeson is honored to receive the Brilliant Contribution Award for her contribute and support to the UNESCO UNITWIN Network in Distance and Open Learning.

On 27 – 29 September 2017, STOU administrators led by Associate Professor Dr. Ranee Esichaikul, Acting Vice-President for Financial Affairs and Planning, together with 9 STOU administrators and senior faculty members, attended the 31st Annual Conference of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU2017) under the theme “Open University for Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education”, hosted by Universitas Terbuka (UT) held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The AAOU conference provided various aspects and knowledge sharing among experts and participants in the field of open and distance learning (ODL). The outcomes of this conference are beneficial to the open and distance learning (ODL) community. Moreover, the event was attended by 62 institutional members from 23 countries from around the world.

On 26 September 2017, Associate Professor Dr. Ranee Esichaikul, Acting Vice-President for Financial Affairs and Planning, and OU5 coordinator and researchers including Professor Dr. Sumalee Sungsri, Associate Professor Dr. Chalabhorn Suwansumrit, Associate Professor Dr. Manoon Toyama, Associate Professor Suruchada Suban Na Ayuthaya, Assistant Professor Dr. Kunchon Jeotee, Dr. Vasu Suvanvihok, and Ms. Rattip Phukkeson, Acting Head of International Affairs, joined the OU5 and Asian MOOC’s Meeting hosted by Universitas Terbuka (UT) held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The meeting aimed to discuss the progress of collaborative research being conducted by the OU5 partners, OU5 MOOC’s and possibilities for future collaboration.

On 13 – 15 December 2017, Associate Professor Dr. Chaiwat Kongsom Acting Vice-President for Educational Services, attended the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) Conference 2017 under the theme “Better Life Expectancy through Education, Research, and Innovation” hosted by Naresuan University in Phitsanulok, Thailand.
On 2 – 3 November 2017, Ms. Rattip Phukkeson, Acting Head of International Affairs, joined the Southeast Asia Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) Forum for Network Development hosted by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Secretariat (SEAMEO Secretariat) and Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (MORTHE), Indonesia, held in Grand Inna Kuta, Bali, Indonesia. The main objective of this meeting was to explore opportunities to organize SEA-MOOCs Network for capacity-building in eleven counties in Southeast Asia and among group of countries in the region as well as to discuss the capacity of Member Countries to access, re-use and share Open Educational Recourses. In addition, Ms. Rattip Phukkeson represented the university to give a presentation on STOU MOOCs and Open and Distance Learning (ODL).

On 2 November 2017, Associate Professor Dr. Ranee Esichaikul, Acting Vice-President for Financial Affairs and Planning, warmly welcomed the delegation from National Open University, Taiwan, led by Dr. Christine Liu on the occasion of their visit to promote Taiwan’s Massive Open Online Course (MOOCs) entitled “Creativity and Business Administration” which included Creative Marketing, Cross-disciplinary New Media and Creative PR, and Creative Economy subjects. The MOOCs are taught in Chinese with Chinese, English, and Thai captions for students to choose their preferred language. Moreover, the MOOCs will be open in January 2018 for students who are interested and the course will be free of charge.
