International Conference on Distance Learning “Research and Innovation for a Digital Society”
In celebration of STOU’s 40th anniversary, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) in cooperation with UNESCO Bangkok hosted the International Conference on “Distance Learning: Research and Innovation for a Digital Society” during 1-3 August 2019 at STOU headquarter, Nonthaburi, Thailand. Prof. Prasart Suebka, Acting President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) and Dr. Libing Wang, the Representative of the Director of UNESCO Bangkok delivered welcome remark at the opening ceremony to over 200 senior administrators, educators, researchers and distance education experts from 22 countries.

Apart from UNESCO Bangkok, International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and Thailand Cyber University (TCU) were the supporting partners of this special occasion. The conference provided an engaging forum for addressing issues, ideas and developments in the field of education through keynote speeches, panel discussion and paper presentations. It offered extremely beneficial and great opportunity for all participants to broaden their knowledge and exchange their perspectives with the speakers and panelists as well as to establish connections with other educational professionals from around the world. Besides this formal academic activity, the welcome dinner and cultural show at Siam Niramit and post-conference tour at historical sites in Ayutthaya province were organized in order to give foreign participants a better understanding of Thai culture and history.

Signing Ceremony between STOU and PNU
On 2 August 2019, Prof. Prasart Suebka, Acting President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) and Prof. Mohammad Reza Zamani, President of Payame Noor University (PNU) represented in the MOU signing ceremony at STOU headquarter in Nonthaburi, Thailand. In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Krisana Rungrojwanich, Acting VicePresident for Research, Innovation and International Affairs, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sita Yiemkantithavorn, Acting Assistant to the President, Asst. Prof. Dr. Bhawat Chiamjinnawat, Acting Assistant to the President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dusit Wechakit, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Cooperatives, lecturers from the School of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and Ms. Benyapa Maneecon, Head of Public Relations Office jointly witnessed the ceremony. From this MOU, STOU and PNU will cooperate with each other in faculty members and students exchange, teaching media and educational opportunity expansion.

On 15 August 2019, Prof. Prasart Suebka, Acting President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) together with Associate Professor Dr. Krisana Rungrojwanich, Acting Vice-President for Research, Innovation and International Affairs and Mrs. Rattip Phukkeson, Head of International Affairs Office, warmly welcomed the delegation from Handong Global University, in the Republic of Korea, led by Professor Dr. Jinwon Ahn, Dean of Policy & Planning, on the occasion of their visit to STOU to present “UNESCO UNITWIN-UUOOI� Grant Program and to discuss academic cooperation with STOU representatives from the School of Nursing, the School of Health Science and the School of Management Science.

STOU Celebrates 41st Anniversary
On 5 September 2019, STOU held a reception dinner for commemorating the 41st Anniversary of the Founding of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU). Professor Dr. Wichit Srisa-an, Chairman of the University Council, presided over the ceremony and featured the awarding of STOU Plaques of Honor to certain individuals who have made valuable contributions to the work of the university. In addition, Mr. Sumphant Yensumran, Acting Vice-President for Human Resources and General Administration presided over a “Khon” performance, entitled “The Noble War”, performed by the Office of Performing Arts, the Fine Art Department of Thailand, on 10 September 2019 at STOU headquarter, Nonthaburi province as one of the activities to celebrate the university’s anniversary. This Thai classical masked performance, involved traditional singing, dancing, acting and music and included dance of benediction, shadow play, martial arts demonstration and spectacular “Khon” performance.
