Bigger, Stronger, Moving forward… together… In 2011 Robert Cooper was appointed as CEO of St. Patrick’s Credit Union and in early 2012, Karen Mulligan was appointed as Financial Controller and subsequently promoted to Deputy CEO.

Since their appointments and during a time of much uncertainty, a new 5-year strategy was agreed by the Board and signed off by the members at the AGM in 2013, which is now being successfully implemented. Under their stewardship and despite the many challenges faced by the credit union sector, SPCU has seen significant improvements in IT, Communications, Member Services and the range of products offered to members over the last few years with the result that our Credit Union continues to move forward positively whilst remaining strong, safe and secure.

With further changes to the sector likely, the Board of Directors were delighted to recently offer, and have accepted, new contracts to both Robert and Karen. With the support of all staff, management and members, the Board are confident that we can build on the growth and success of the past five years and ensure our members of a relevant, strong, safe and secure credit union in the coming years.

Standing L to R: Sarah Claxton Director, George O’Driscoll President Seated L to R: Karen Mulligan Deputy CEO, John Mc Sweeney, Secretary, Robert Cooper CEO

We’re Dreaming of a Stress-free Christmas

Yes, we know it’s only October but it pays to plan ahead when it comes to Christmas spending. Are you Making a List & Checking it Twice? Start shopping early, make a list, keep a budget in mind and stick to both. Don’t saunter into town on Christmas Eve and not a clue what to buy. You’ll end up spending a fortune and you’ll be grumpy ‘cos it’s not like you see on the movies where everyone is dancing and singing round the shops… it’s a battlefield. Secret Santa Baby Secret Santa for the adults is the way to go, you’ll save a heap of money and who knows you might even get something you want this year. There are only so many bubble baths and body lotions a girl can handle… and does anyone actually use soap on a rope? Deck The Halls with Re-used Holly Don’t be seduced by all the sparkling new decorations in the shops if you already have plenty. We have it on good authority Vintage is the look this year so ask yer Ma to dig out some homemade decs from years gone by, she’ll be delighted and you’ll have a lovely trip down memory lane. Last Christmas I Made You a Tart When it comes to Christmas Fayre there’s nothing better than homemade and it’s so much cheaper. Make your own

treats, Google fun and easy recipes to try out with the kids, so what if they make a mess? It’s Christmas! Rudolph the Financially Hungover Reindeer Think seriously about what you can afford and don’t push your limit. You’ll be glad in January when the kids are already bored and playing with the boxes their presents came in. Go easy on the credit cards and avoid the moneylenders at all costs. We’re here if you need a small loan to tide you over. Download a form or apply online www. stpatrickscu.ie Let it Grow! Ok so it’s a bit late for this year but if you add Christmas to your Budget Account now, when next Christmas 2017 rolls around you’ll have a nice little pot of money saved to ease the strain on your purse. Give the member services team a call and get it organised…now…

Apparently a certain high end retailer had their Christmas Shop open in August, now that’s madness...

It’s The Most Woeful Time of the Year If Christmas isn’t your thing our 1yr holiday loan could have you on a sunny beach away from all the madness. Even Michael Bublé’s Christmas Album sounds good when you’re by the pool…allegedly Mistletoe and ….a cuppa In all seriousness it’s not all about how much you spend, the things that really matter cost nothing. Play daft games with the kids, spend time with friends and family. If you have elderly neighbours living on their own, pop in for a cuppa with a box of biscuits or invite them to yours, it could be the most welcome gift you give this year.
