alumni news 1961 George Goulet ’51 and his wife Terry are authors, historians, and public speakers on the subject of the Canadian aboriginal group, the Metis. They have spoken across Canada, the United States, at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Cambridge. Together, they have authored over 1951 Congratulations to Len Sitter ’61 on being inducted into the Football Manitoba Hall of Fame! Randy Van de Mosselaer ’86, Alumni Affairs Manager, interviewed Len to discuss the sacrifices made, the plays planned, and the students impacted. Len was a mentor, coach, teacher, and friend. View the full interview on the St. Paul’s YouTube channel. nine books. Copies of their books can be found at all Winnipeg Public Libraries and Winnipeg Universities. George is particularly proud that he “scored the only touchdowns in the November 1949 Provincial High School football championship in which St. Paul’s defeated the defending champion Daniel Mac 13-0. Go, Crusaders Go!”

1954 Clifford Poirier ‘54 and his wife Donalee celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on June 13, 2019. They are enjoying retirement in East St. Paul, MB. They are the proud Grandparents of Cole Lysak '20, who is in his final year at St. Paul’s. Clifford was employed in the Grain Industry for 38 years.

1968 Lou Furlan ‘68 is pictured (sporting jersey #27) with his teammates at the U of M Homecoming as the 1969/1970 Bison Vanier Cup team is inducted into the Canada West University’s Hall of Fame.

1960 Thomas P. Dooley ’60 (SPC ’65, ’69) was honoured with the inaugural Magis Prize for Influence and Leadership by St. Paul’s College. Dooley was selected for his participation and passion in his area of expertise and for serving the community in various leadership capacities. Dooley is an active leader in the Manitoba community.

1977 Mark Corbett ’77 has retired after many years with Great-West Financial in Denver, CO. Mark oversaw corporate investment strategy worldwide. Congratulations!

Jim Egan ’77 currently resides in Toronto, ON after many years with Ernst Young in London, England. Jim recently got together with the Class of ’77 for Christmas Eve; Bayne Robertson, Don Gosselin, Dickson Gould, Andre Bosc, Joe Carey, Steve Pataki, David Galbraith and Jim are pictured below.

Andrew Mikolajewski ’77 retired from the Winnipeg Police Service. In his retirement, Andrew wrote the book, “Stoppel,” which explores what went wrong in the investigation of one of Manitoba’s most notorious murder cases, Barbara Stoppel. Andrew had a considerable hand in the correction of injustice, and the exoneration of Thomas Sophonow.

Major Christopher J. Pybus, CD ‘77, currently resides in Ottawa, ON and retired from Her Majesty’s Canadian Armed Forces in November 2019. He has served the Queen and country with the Royal Canadian Logistics Service for the past 32+ years. Chris started a new job with Veterans Affairs Canada as an administration services officer in October.

1982 Alexander Du ’82 currently resides in Toronto, Ontario. He left Bell TV as in-house legal counsel in 2014 and is now working for Salt and Light TV as their Chief Operating Officer. He is married with two boys, ages 18 & 19.

1986 After 18 years with Richardson International, Paul Beaudry ’86 co-founded ourCIO, which provides organizations with IT management, leadership and strategy.

1988 Last year, Farmery Estate Brewing (owned by Lawrence Warwaruk ’88) was designated as a star attraction by Travel Manitoba and now hosts 20,000 visitors annually through its Neepawa, MB farm/brewery.

1991 Jessey Camara ’91 , currently resides in Tsawwassen, BC with his wife Natalie and daughter Madelyn. Jessey recently started a business, BMI Advisory Services which offers an innovative way for Mortgage Brokers to offer their clients level-term insurance solutions. Jessey also sits on the board of directors for the Canadian Mortgage Brokers Association of British Columbia.

1995 Artist Pat Lazo ’95 is the artistic director for Graffiti Art Programming; taking his cues from the Winnipeg Window Gallery Project, Pat stapled 15 metres of white house wrap to his exterior fence and over the course of several days painted a mural. His community art installation titled “this too shall pass” shares a colourful message of hope with his neighbourhood during COVID-19.

2000 Matthew Stanicky ’00 and his wife Trish welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the world last July. Luke Joseph George Stanicky was born on July 18 in Calgary, AB, at 7 lbs and 5 ounces.

Craig White ’00 and his wife Kathryn gave birth to their first child Rowan on March 24, 2020. All are doing well!

2007 Tom Barnicki ’07 married Kelsey Pooles in October 2019 in Scottsdale, Arizona. 2009 Nicholas Gladu ’09 currently resides in Galiano Island, BC. Nicholas is opening a restaurant focused on sharing the best produce from the West Coast.

Kirk Knudsen ’09 graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2016 and is currently articling with Pinx & Co. in Winnipeg. Kirk will be called to the bar in June.

Gabe McKenty ’09 is a welder and is currently attending school for Occupational Health & Safety. Gabe & Ashley are expecting their first child in October 2020.

Al Turnbull ’09 recently graduated from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and was hired by Aird & Berlis LLP in Toronto. Before coming to Ontario for law school, he graduated with Distinction from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Political Studies.

2010 Kole Knudsen ’10 graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2018 and is articling with Cassidy Ramsay Law in Winnipeg and will be called to the bar in June 2020.

2011 Congratulations to Jess Neufeld ’11 , who will be competing in the Four Continents Speed Skating Championships on behalf of Team Canada.

Steve Setka ’09 has been selected as a member of the Canadian Men’s Aussie Rules Football team travelling to Australia to play in the International World Cup of Australian Football. Steve is the president of AFL Manitoba and has created a program for schools, community groups, adults, and children alike.

Rambel Palsis ’11 is an occupational therapist for the Rehabilitation Centre for Children. He currently runs programming for children and families who are impacted by fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. He is also working with the University of Manitoba, researching accessibility within our communities.

Mike St. Croix ’11, has partnered with a Covello Financial Group in Toronto, Ontario. In his free time, he is involved in a tech start-up and manages a few rental properties in Winnipeg.

Nick Yogendran ’11 is currently pursuing a career in movie making. Nick is currently working on a film with Liam Neeson.

2012 Vilok Guliani ’12 currently resides in Montreal, QC and is an Actuarial Analyst for The Co-operators Insurance Company.

2014 Owen Black ’14 is working towards his Creative Communications designation at Red River College.
