Guest Speakers Val Bishop – African Initiatives a social justice organisation working with communities in Africa. Together we build self-sufficiency and confidence and empower people to fully participate in the decisions that affect their lives. Narraser Gorden - Community Activist, Labour Councillor candidate in recent local elections. Marie Annick Gournet - Director of Widening Participation, Principal Lecturer in Intercultural Communication and Area Studies. The aim of the Widening Participation programme is to train university students from BME backgrounds to work as positive role Model for BME students in secondary schools.

ABOUT AFRICAN VOICES FORUM African Voices Forum (AVF) is a Bristol-based network of African and African-Caribbean community associations/organisations, other community organisations working to empower Africans and AfricanCaribbeans to take active part in policies and initiatives that concern them, as well as other organisations that share and support the forum’s values, principles, and objectives. The AVF is registered in the UK as a company limited by guarantee with charitable objectives. It was set up on 18th March 2008 by African and African-Caribbean community groups. Vision Active and sustainable African and African-Caribbean community interventions where our voices and concerns, and those of other groups, are given equal consideration by mainstream agencies, and where everybody is allowed to enjoy their full dignity and respect, and above all to realise their full potential. Mission African Voices Forum pursues this vision by supporting and developing the capacity of African and African-Caribbean community organisations to enable them identify common needs and challenges, develop common approaches to address them, and above all develop partnerships with other organisations to enhance our objectives and promote community cohesion.
MEMBERSHIP Membership of AVF is open to community organisations, local authorities and umbrella bodies/local development agencies which promote and support African and African-Caribbean community organisations. The latter might include Councils for Voluntary Service (CVS), Rural Community Councils (RCC), and Local Federations of Community Organisations. Full membership of the African Voices Forum (AVF) is open to all African and African-Caribbean community Associations/ organisations based in the UK and internationally. Full member organisations have the right to attend, speak and vote at General Meetings and to nominate a representative to stand for election to the Board of Trustees or Management Committee. £25 membership registration fees and £15 annual subscription fees are paid respectively, by full members of AVF. Associate membership is open to organisations and voluntary agencies working with African and African- Caribbean Communities in the UK and EU countries. Associate member organisations are only obliged to pay a registration fee of £25 (one of payment) and no annual subscription. Supporting membership is open to organisations and voluntary agencies who are not directly working with African and African-Caribbean communities in the UK and internationally but share similar concerns of global justice and African alternatives. Supporting members are only obliged to pay a registration fee which varies according to their annual turn-over and no annual subscription.
