Updated Information for Further Disturbances on April 2011 Local Residents and Traders Disturbances on Thursday Night (28 April)

What happened on Thursday night? Neighbourhood officers were actively engaging with what was a peaceful gathering earlier in the evening, but support was called in after a number of people became violent, put on masks and began throwing bottles at police officers, a number of whom sustained injuries. Has anyone been arrested? By 5 pm on Friday 30 people had been arrested and the investigation is ongoing. For the latest information please visit the police website. What’s happening with the squat at 141 Cheltenham Road? After Thursday night’s disturbances, the council worked jointly with the police to bring forward the eviction to Friday morning. By 3.30 pm the building was back in the hands of the council and has now been safely secured. What is being done to ensure the area stays clean? Council workers cleaned the area early Friday morning and again following the eviction from the squat at 141 Cheltenham Road. What happens next? •
