St Pauls Unlimited Opportunities for Young People in St Pauls ‘Opportunities for Young People’ in St Pauls has been prioritised by St Pauls residents as an area for development during 2011. In order to explore the challenges, opportunities and aspirations of young people in St Pauls, we are commissioning a small amount of research to kick off a larger youth opportunities project. The first stage of this work is to understand the opportunities which are currently available – across themes such as learning, getting a job, having fun and being part of the community – and whether opportunities available are any different in St Pauls when compared to other areas of Bristol. The findings of the research will be used to support the development of an action plan for young people in St Pauls and provide an evidence base to help attract further funding and resources into the neighbourhood. Young People (YP) – are defined as 8 – 25 year olds for this research Details of what will be expected of this research are as follows: The research will be expected to compile a report consisting of a maximum of four written pages and appendices with references (appendices and references not included in the four page limit). The exact format of the report will be agree with the researcher, but it we expect the report to answer the following questions in a clear and concise way. Existing Research analysis: 1. What research currently exists that looks at elements of challenges, opportunities and aspirations for young people in St Pauls? (Please provide copies if at all possible) 2. Please summarise the challenges, opportunities and aspirations of St Pauls YP according to this research.
3. What city wide or national research exists highlighting challenges, opportunities and aspirations of YP in Bristol and the UK? (Specifically look at local and UK Youth Parliament and developing policy) 4. Please summarise the challenges, opportunities and aspirations of Bristol/UK YP according to this research. 5. How do the challenges facing St Pauls YP compare with challenges faced by YP in other parts of Bristol/UK? Local Service Providers and Services Offered 6. Who are the primary service providers in St Pauls and what services are they offering? (Fill in any missing data from chart provided by SPU) 7. Are there obvious gaps in services where a local organisation or service provider isn’t addressing primary challenges/ aspirations of YP? 8. Based on your research in a city and national context, are you able to identify any intended expansions or reductions in services? The final report should be delivered to St Pauls Unlimited by 21/04/2011. This is a short-term consultant position. We approximate the work will take a researcher the equivalent of two days to complete and we are willing to pay £500 upon successful completion of the task.
