How time flies when you’re having fun! February will mark six months as your new GM. With that said, season is fast approaching, and we have a full slate of activities for all to enjoy here at the Club. As mentioned in previous articles, we are well under way with our Strategic Plan and the Master Plan to follow. Going through this process, there seems to be some confusion between the two plans, so here is an explanation of the differences.

The Strategic Plan is an organization’s process of defining its direction and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this direction. Whereas the Master Plan provides direction to develop or improve (land, a community, a building complex) through a long-range plan that balances and harmonizes all elements. The old adage is “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” A strategic plan is a shorter-term, three-to-fiveyear plan that is internally driven. Consisting of the following: •Revising or updating an organizations mission, vision, and core values •Identifying the most important goals for the organization for the next three to five years •Defining of objectives and action steps needed to achieve the goals •Strategy to measure accomplishments above

The Master Plan, which is often confused with the Strategic Plan, is a high-level-big-picture process that typically plans for a timeframe of 10 to 20 years. This longer timeframe is important for any organization that is experiencing growth like we are. A Master Plan answers three questions: •Where is our organization now? •Where will we need to be in the future? •How do we get there?

Membership in a fine club is an earned privilege. Not only an opportunity to spend quality time with people who share your values, interest, and morale’s, but a place where prospective members/spouses meet and where families safely engage in recreational and social activities. As we continue to go through this process in becoming the best that SPYC can be we need to really reflect on what made this Club great! A rich history in sailing, a community social hub where friends and families alike can gather while enjoying each other’s company, multiple picturesque locations and a safe haven in troubling times—all reasons for the overall value of membership.

In last month's Smooth Sailing we advertised some closing dates at the Pass-a-Grille Clubhouse this year for various reasons. Since that time, we have received some comments regarding these and why. We will be reviewing our existing policies and putting into place some guidelines to restrict closures out at PAG – more to come on this. In addition, there was an announcement regarding Holiday Events only taking place at our downtown location and not at PAG - this is incorrect - we will continue to run operations for Holiday Events at both locations just as we have in the past.

In closing, 2022 is showing signs of being one of the busiest years the Club has encountered. Your SPYC Team is here ready to serve you, your families, and guests in all you plan to do at the Club.

I look forward to meeting everyone in the coming months as I make my way around our various facilities.

Cheers! Rhett J. Robicheaux, CCM
