What a month we just had! February was packed with great events starting with the Vintage Car Show, then the Valentine’s Day Regatta, the new Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series, and closing the month with the Grand Prix Garage Party. The entire team here at the Club did an outstanding job - kudos to you all! Let’s not forget the dedicated and always willing number of volunteers that gave up their time to help in any way around the Club. Everyone’s hard work truly paid off as all events were very successful.
As we continue to take on the great success of the Club and its member/guest usage this season, we must keep in mind our Guest Rules as we plan ahead over the next couple months. Guest rules state that a guest can be accompanied by a member or be issued a guest card. Below are our Guest rules for clarity:
• No individual who is eligible for membership shall be brought to the Club as a guest more than twice in any one month or 12 times a year.
• Guest Cards for invited guests of the Club (i.e. regatta participants) shall be secured at the Front Desk before guest may use the facilities of the Club.
• Members introducing guests and visitors in the Club will be considered responsible for their conduct while in the Clubhouse and for any debts their guest may incur.
• The privileges of guests may be withdrawn at any time by any Flag Officer or by Management.
• Out-of-Town Guest (persons living outside of the radius of forty statute miles of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club) may be issued Guest Cards for a maximum period of 10 days twice a year. Guest Cards shall not be issued to guests who are residing within Pinellas County.
In the same vein, Garage Parking becomes an issue during these high traffic months, and we need to remember our Garage is a member privilege which shouldn’t be abused. It’s not a storage facility or a holding spot to entertain outside of the Club. The Parking Garage is available for members and their guest only when using the Club facilities.
Reservations are also very important this time year – Reservations for Grille 1909 may be made by logging into your SPYC membership account or over the phone by contacting Mary Lou at extension 250. If you leave a message at that extension your call will be returned within 24 hours.
Strategic Plan update and upcoming Master Plan:
The Strategic Plan is coming along well as we now have a draft action plan. This plan will be issued out to the responsible parties for owning this action plan whether it be staff, committees, and/or the Board. Once everyone has had the chance to review the plan, add to and comment on, it will go back to the Long-Range Planning Committee for final edits. It will then go to the Board for final approval concluding with a Town Hall setting up in early Spring to roll out to the Membership. The Master Plan will follow and take all the detail from the Strategic Plan and create a multiyear plan of improvements to the Club over 10 - 20 years. In addition, the Initiation Fee will increase to $10,000 effective March 1st.
I look forward to meeting each of you in the coming months as I make my way around our various facilities.
