Community Sailing

Membership is open to residents of the surrounding six counties

750+ people learn to sail each year

· 9 sailboats are for use at no cost to members

Advanced Sailing Courses

Accessible boats & docks allow for disabled sailing programs

· Recreational sailboats used over 1,000 times each year

· Affordable access to the waterfront

Social functions to introduce new sailors to one of St. Petersburg’s hidden gems

Youth Summer Sailing Camp

· Each Summer, over 400 children sail in SPYC summer camps

· Open to all children ages 5-16

· Scholarships offered to 60 need based YMCA of St. Petersburg participants

· Students learn in SPYC owned Opti’s, 420s, and Keelboats

Disabled Sailing & Kayaking Clinics

· Partnership between SPYC & St. Petersburg’s Therapeutic Recreation Department

· Open to anyone with a physical or developmental disability

· Showcases adaptive equipment and technology which allow people with disabilities to participate in sailing and kayaking

· Averages 100 participants each event

· Access Dinghies are specifically made to accommodate virtually all disabilities

St. Petersburg Youth Sailing Team Regattas on Tampa Bay

· Internationally recognized for producing some of the world’s top competitors

· Over 75 junior sailors participate in our Junior Sailing Team each year

· Lakewood, Ocala, St. Petersburg High and Shorecrest High School Teams train at the Sailing Center

· The Sailing Center hosts over 35 sailing regattas each year

· Olympic Medalists, America’s Cup Winners, and World Champions travel to St. Petersburg each year to race on Tampa Bay

· Over 9,500 visitors come to the Sailing Center to race each year

· St. Petersburg’s downtown hotels restaurants, and attractions are often filled with visiting sailors during our regatta season
