Yingya St Peter’s School Hainan
Introduction
In line with our strategic objective to increase revenue away from school fees, we have been exploring international partnerships for some time. We are now preparing to open our first St Peter’s International School in Hainan, China working in partnership with the Shengfeng Group.
About Hainan
Hainan is an island province located in the southernmost part of China. It has been designated as a special economic zone and will be a free trade port from 2025 with low taxation and regulation. Because of this, rapid expansion is expected and a significant growth in the current population of 10m people. As investors and international business begin establishing themselves on the island, the need for a high-quality international school has arisen.
Yingya St Peter's School
We established a partnership with the Shengfeng Group last year, having sought a partner with established experience of international education Shenfeng are responsible for all financial input, building the campus, operational running of the school and securing licenses.
They have already appointed a highly experienced leadership team and teaching staff for opening in September 2023.
Yingya St Peter's School Campus
The school is located approximately 110km south of the provincial capital, Haikou.
The school occupies a 30-acre site and will accommodate up to 4,000 day and boarding students when it reaches capacity. The school will have a mix of Chinese and international students and specialise in innovative areas such as STEM learning. The campus will include extensive cocurricular facilities including a lake, sporting and other co-curricular facilities and performing arts spaces.

How will St Peter's York be involved with Yingya St Peter’s?
Matt Carr will continue to lead this international development on behalf of St Peter’s York. Senior leadership in York will work with the senior leadership in Hainan and be responsible for developing all aspects of our education. They will be replicating St Peter's vision and practice and adopting our focus on Qualifications, Skills, Values and Interests This will flow through Academic, Co-Curricular and Pastoral from Kindergarten to Upper Sixth Once the school has opened in Hainan, we will retain ongoing quality control and inspection.
A delegation from St Peter’s School York recently visited Hainan to see progress on the school building site, attending meetings with partners and the Senior Leadership Team of Yingya St Peter's They also met with government departments and leaders and took part in admissions and promotional events. Next Steps
Yingya St Peter’s is due to complete campus building works and open in September 2023 with a limited number of students We will continue to work with Yingya St Peter's leadership on policies and practice before and after the school opening. There will be further visits to and from Hainan and we look forward to updating you on progress.
