activity and sport for children’, demonstrates children and young people’s activity levels continue to be negatively impacted by the ongoing coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic at a time when getting active is more important than ever for their mental and physical wellbeing. Positively, the results provide further evidence that active children have higher levels of mental wellbeing and illustrate the role sport and physical activity can play in supporting them amid rising levels of loneliness and declining mental health during the pandemic. We also know that active children do better at school in attainment and achievement, so there's a dual benefit to taking part amid ongoing uncertainty. In general, there were lower activity levels when there were more coronavirus restrictions in place, which illustrates the importance of protecting and supporting sport and physical activity opportunities in schools and the other organised sport in children and young people's lives. Overall, children and young people are doing fewer activities than they were before the pandemic. Team sports fell before a partial recovery in the latter part of the year. Swimming is the activity that's seen the biggest drop overall and there are worrying drops in swimming ability among primary school children. I am delighted to report that despite this being a problem across the country, it is not a reflection of the Physical Education and Co-curricular offering at St Peter’s 2-18; the children are extremely fortunate with the opportunities that will be on offer throughout their learning journey at St Peter’s. I look forward to seeing the Reception children at swimming tomorrow and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

effort and I am sure you would join me in congratulating the staff for their tremendous work. My thanks to the catering team who provided refreshments and the Estates team who helped prepare all the performing spaces. Thank you to the IT team who organised the live streaming of these productions to parents and grandparents who are living and working in the UK, Europe, Australia and Saudi Arabia (just the countries we knew about) who accessed our performances via this platform. Finally thank you to Mrs Hayden. The music in all the performances was outstanding and she has rehearsed with all the children in school learning all the songs to the productions. Next week we have our Christingle Service in the school chapel, unfortunately we are unable to have parents at this event. On Thursday Sophia, Lizzie D, and Lizzie K-L with Mrs Clarke and Mrs Bateson visited the charity offices of the Children’s Congenital Heart Unit at Joseph's Well delivering gifts and craft kits that the children created in school. They have created a video so that the children who receive the kits can scan a QR code and watch instructions on what to do with the kit. This is our school charity this year and there will be more charity initiatives throughout the remainder of the year. Thank you to Mrs Clarke and Mrs Bateson for sorting this and to all of you for your generous donations which packed the minibus and were gratefully received. Next week we have the Christingle Service, House Singing Competition, Christmas Activity Day and Christmas Lunch. What an exciting end to the term! Tomorrow sees the last sport fixtures of the term at the Senior section of the school. I have the privilege to coach sport to the St Peter’s 13-18 children. Every week it is wonderful to see sports fixtures in hockey, rugby, netball, rowing, volleyball, squash, swimming, badminton and tennis throughout this term. I am involved with the hockey programme and there are over 8 teams playing on Saturday afternoons and training three times a week. This is same for rugby at St Peter’s 13-18. Additionally, children can choose a range of other physical activities if they don’t want to participate in these sports including running, yoga and dance. The children across St Peter’s 2-18 are very active and physical activity is strongly promoted in school. The report, published yesterday from Sport England, ‘Covid-19 challenges highlight importance of physical
MONDAY
What a week it has been at St Peter’s 2-8, Christmas has certainly arrived! On Monday and Tuesday the children in Years 1, 2 and 3 performed their Christmas plays to their parents in the Memorial Hall. Year 1 performed ‘Ralph the Dinodeer’, Year 2 performed ‘Bah Humbug!’ and Year 3 performed ‘Cinderella and Rockerfella’. The children were sensational; they sang, acted and danced throughout all three plays with so much confidence and with huge smiles on their faces. On Wednesday morning it was the turn of Nursery who performed ‘Away In A Manger’. The children also sang several Christmas songs and had their premiere showing of the Conkers Christmas film. This performance was stunning; the children loved performing once again to a packed audience in the Rayson Room. They were so confident, and you wouldn’t have thought that the children were 2, 3 and 4 years old. Huge congratulations to all the Nursery children. On Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning the Reception children performed ‘On a Starry Night’ in the Rayson Room. This was an original script based on the Christmas story with songs from Take That, Shaggy, Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, Marvyn Gaye, Mariah Carey and The Monkees. The children were amazing and once again loved performing to a full house in the Rayson Room. The link for all the performances and accompanying films can be found in the covering email with the newsletter link. It was wonderful to have a real-life audience for the first time in two years as the children loved performing to them all. My thanks to the parents, grandparents and supporters of the school who created a fabulous atmosphere for the children and for following our Covid guidance. My thanks to the staff who wrote scripts, choreographed dance moves, directed the plays, created the sets and props, designed all costumes and worked incredibly hard to stage manage the plays whilst the children were performing. A phenomenal
