What a sensational week at St Peter’s 2-8. The children have all performed in their Christmas plays to an audience of parents, grandparents, family members and friends in person and live streamed around the world.
The Year 3 children performed Aladdin Trouble, Year 2 Tinsel and Tea Towels and Year 1 Christmas Around the World. Reception retold the Christmas story in their own very distinct and creative way and Nursery performed Christmas songs. The Children were amazing, singing their hearts out and acting so professionally, dancing with creative flair and having such a sense of fun! Their confidence shone through in all of the
performances, and you wouldn’t believe that they are so young. Huge congratulations to all of the children, we are all so very proud of you. My huge thanks to all of the staff for their incredible work preparing the children. Acting, singing, creating costumes, script writing and providing the children the opportunity to express themselves so freely. A huge undertaking!
All of the performances were live streamed and are now available by clicking on the links below.

Wednesday’s Reception Performance
On behalf of all at school thanks to the governing board for all they do for the school giving their time and support so freely.
On Thursday morning Year 1, Reception and Nursery were visited by The Animated Objects Theatre Company. They enjoyed a wonderful production of the Magic Lamp. The children were enthralled by the puppets, storytelling, and the original story of Aladdin.
Next week our final week of the year will be as busy as this week. Please see the calendar of Christmas events on page 2.
On Tuesday Year 2 are going to the theatre to watch Peter Pan. The Christingle Service is on Wednesday, starting at 3.30pm in York Minster. Please note that children in nursery should be collected at 2.45pm if you are planning to take them to the service and 3.10pm if not as there will be no After School Care on this evening.
On Wednesday we had a delegation of governors who visited school to look at the journey of literacy at school. Mrs Salisbury gave a wonderful presentation on the journey of literacy at St Peter’s 28, followed by the governors observing teaching in Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3. I know they were impressed with all the teaching and learning on display. This was followed by a governor full board meeting at school.
Our Christmas Celebration Day will be held on Thursday and Chef Stuart will be busy preparing a delicious Christmas lunch.
Children can come to school in home clothes and wearing a Christmas jumper.
Finally, just to remind you all that term ends at 12.00noon on Friday 16th December.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

THIS WEEK’ S SPOTLIGHT IS ON ACORNS AND CONKERS
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The primary role of Pe at this stage is to purely develop our fundamental skills. Throughout this term we have been using the traffic light system to develop our motor control in movements such as running, galloping and jumping. The children find it particularly hard to come to a stop at this stage, so this is where the 'red light' is useful.
Using cartoon cards, the children have been learning key balances and movements in the 'bean game'. The children definitely enjoy recreating 'beans on toast'. Moving through the term, we have progressed into throwing and catching. Scarfs are a great tool at this age as they move slowly giving the children more time to catch the scarf, they also make great photos! These are activities that all children can do at home, on the playground and with us, in school. There has been huge progress this term and we look forward to working with children again next term.
We are so proud of the Acorns who sang beautifully in their Christmas Performance. Well done! They were brave standing in front of so many people to sing their songs. We do hope you enjoyed the singing and the Nativity as much as we did, it feels like Christmas has begun! The Kindness Elf surprised us all by arriving in a sleigh decorated with all sorts of Christmassy decorations. He left a note with a message and some hot chocolate. The little Elf encouraged us all to see who we could show some kindness to? Our first recipients were the lovely ladies who keep our classrooms clean. We were able to give them some home baked Christmas cakes that the Acorns had baked themselves. We have enjoyed wrapping gifts, making cards, serving hot chocolate with ‘squirty’ cream (shaving foam) and pulling the sleigh along filled with teddies. The excitement for Christmas is growing each day. Have a lovely weekend and keep warm in this chilly weather ❄️
Acorns
This week it was show time in Nursery and WOW what a show it was!!
What a week it has been in Reception! We began it with a visit to York Minster to see the Christmas Tree Festival. The children loved walking around the vast space, looking at the stained-glass windows and asking lots of questions about their surroundings. We even saw the statue of Queen Elizabeth that has just been unveiled by King Charles. Then we chose our favourite Christmas trees, of course the St Peter’s one with angels was one of our favourites, but we also loved the trains and jewellery trees too. We even spotted decorations made from recycled crisp packets! The it was off to the library for a story and some Christmas songs.
On Tuesday we watched Nursery’s wonderful dress rehearsal, listening to them sing and dance so confidently, and we practised being a good audience, clapping and cheering them on. Then on Wednesday it was our turn. After a ‘not quite so great’ dress rehearsal the day before, the children really pulled it out of the bag for their performance on the day. What great signing, singing, dancing and most of all confidence and enjoyment they showed. We were so proud of them; we hope you enjoyed it too. It really demonstrates what a long way the children have come in a few months when you see them on the stage like that in front of an audience. Then we got to do it all again on Thursday too. AMAZING, well done everyone, you are all very well-deserved Learning Superheroes! Have a lovely weekend, you must all be exhausted and we will see you all again on Monday for one more week of Christmas fun and mayhem!
RECEPTION
YEAR 1
WOW WOW WOW!
We must begin by saying an enormous well done to all of the Year One children for their truly wonderful performance of Christmas Around The World at the start of the week. Every single one of you spoke with such confidence and expression! Your singing was beautiful, and you all had so much fun! The performances were magical! We are all so proud of you! Thank you to all the grown-ups who managed to come and watch it! We hope you loved it just as much!
The theme of Christmas is flying through Year One this week! Our classrooms have been full of the sound of Christmas music and songs as the children have had great fun decorating their classes! It has been wonderful to see the children work collaboratively to make decorations such as paper chains; which soon transformed into a competition of who could make the longest paper chain! Letters to Santa have been written which such care and attention to detail. Lots of the new alternative spellings of the sounds that we already know have been used which is fantastic to see! We think Santa will be VERY busy this Christmas!
This week in maths we have been busy learning about subtraction. We have been exploring this through many different practical activities as well as by counting back along a number line. The children enjoyed changing the start and end numbers to different (and very high) numbers each time! They demonstrated a great understanding of how this is the opposite of the addition that we did last week!
And finally, on Thursday we had a special treat for all of our hard work with our own Christmas Performance. We all got to watch a special performance of The Magic Lamp! It was an amazing performance that we all thoroughly enjoyed!
We cannot believe there is only one week left of the first term in Year One!
What a magical week we have had in Year One!
We are feeling very festive this week in Year 2 with the icy temperatures, our classroom Christmas trees going up and of course the fabulous Christmas play performances! We want to start by saying how proud we are of all of the Year 2 children for getting up on the big stage in front of lots of grown ups! They sang beautifully and said their lines with so much confidence. Well done Year 2, you’ve made us very proud teachers this week!
The children have been busy making lovely Christmas decorations to hang on our classroom trees, their crafts have included beautiful angels, twinkly candles and lots of paper chains! They are very excited to bring them home next week to hang on their own Christmas trees.
We have also been busy writing letters to Father Christmas. The children have shown excellent reflection skills by looking back over our handwriting and spelling lessons so far this year to ensure they use beautiful presentation for Santa. We have no doubt you will be just as impressed as us (although maybe not with the abundance of present requests!). The children showed great kindness by asking Santa for a gift for somebody else, as well as themselves in their letters. We have also been revising addition and subtraction this week with some Christmas maths challenges!
Well done Year 2, a busy yet brilliant week and we are so excited to watch you all in the Christingle service at York Minster next week. We are entering the Christmas holidays as very proud and happy teachers!
YEAR 2
What a busy penultimate week it has been in Year 3! This week we VERY excitedly performed our Christmas play in front of our grownups… and it was amazing! The children spoke with such clarity, enthusiasm and enjoyment. Their singing was super and their acting really helped to bring our performance to life. It is an incredible achievement to be able to stand on stage and perform as they did in front of a big audience; what a wonderful experience. We are all very proud of the children! We have come to the near-end of our book ‘George’s Secret Key to the Universe’ and have been gripped by what has happened between Dr Reeper and Eric. We hope to finish the book next week as when we return in January, we will be starting a new learning journey. In maths we have been familiarising ourselves with the 8x table and applying our knowledge to problem solving and reasoning activities. We are really getting in to the festive spirit in Year 3 and can’t wait for next week’s exciting activities and Christmas fun!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
