It has been a wonderful week to end what has been an incredibly busy term.
On Tuesday morning the Year 2 children had a House hockey tournament where all the children competed. The children enjoyed the friendly competition and Micklegate won. On Thursday it was the turn of Year 3 and it was lovely to observe the progression from Year 2
Year 3. All the children played well, and the winners of Year 3 were Monk. In assembly this morning the points were added up from both tournaments and I presented the Hockey trophy to Manny, who is the House Captain for Walmgate. My sincere thanks to Miss Flockhart, Mr Lomax and all of the teachers and teaching assistants who helped at these events.
the journey they have been on as they have been ‘Riding the America’s’. Both assemblies were excellent, well done to all of the children. Thanks to Mrs Salisbury and Miss Collins and all the TA’s for their support.
On Wednesday afternoon our Year 2 and Year 3 children joined children from our friends and neighbours, Burton Green Primary School. The children sang many of the songs from Young Voices and a few new ones too. Huge thanks to our musical maestro, Mrs Hayden for pulling the concert together and to the amazing children at St Peter’s 2-8 and Burton Green Primary School and to all the parents who attended supporting the children. It was such a brilliant afternoon.
Today we have had out House singing competition. The three Houses chose songs from Abba and they were all excellent. The winners were Walmgate. Thank you to Ms Opie and Mr Roberts who were our judges this year. Well done all.
our extreme reading competition winners to Lydia (2J), Henry (RC), Acer (1A), and Ros (3S). Well done to all. Our termly Housepoint trophy was won by Monk.

MR LOMAX IS RUNNING THE LONDON MARATHON ON 23RD APRIL 2023
With Marathon Day less than 3 weeks away, preparation continues for Mr Lomax running the London Marathon in aid of the Mencap Charity on the 23rd April, in support of those with learning disabilities to live healthy and happy lives.
Mr Lomax once again would like to extend his sincere thanks for your generous donations. Due to this he has almost reached his target amount of £2 500, so a huge thank you!
The 2-8 community have shared stories of similar journeys and the children have been so enthusiastic and inquisitive too!

SCHOOL COUNCIL
As a culmination of this term's School Council work on the environment and working together to protect our planet the Council Representatives made a presentation to the whole school in Assembly this morning. They explained about the work they'd been doing to help 2-8 be more environmentally friendly and what all the children can do in school and at home to help too.
This Council have worked hard to bring about some great changes that will help the environment including the installation of compost bins in school for food waste and the reduction in the use of single use carrier bags for the delivery of snacks.
Well done Councillors! A great term's work.

PE
As we approach the end of the hockey season, we wanted to take a moment to highlight the progress and growth we've seen in our Year 2 and Year 3 hockey. It has been an absolute joy watching these young players develop their skills and understanding of the game over the past few months.
We've seen some impressive teamwork and sportsmanship on display from our children this week in their inter-house hockey, and we are excited to see how they will continue to improve in the years to come. We are grateful to all the parents, coaches, and teaching teams who have supported these tournaments, and share with you photographs of this Year’s 2 and 3 Inter-House Hockey Tournament.
As we look ahead to the Easter break, we want to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday. As the weather gets warmer, we can't wait to hear about all the sports you play in the time off!
Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to seeing you all back after Easter !
MUSIC
Wow, what a fabulous concert our Year 2 and 3 children gave on Wednesday with their new friends from Burton Green Primary school!
All the children enjoyed a lovely lunch of hot dogs and fries, followed by ice cream with strawberry sauce and sprinkles, before heading to the Memorial Hall to warm up for the concert.
I was so impressed with all the children, especially as we hadn't rehearsed any of the songs together before the day of the concert! The children rose to the challenge of finding out which harmony part they needed to sing just before each song as it all depended on where they were stood!
Our friends from Burton Green had a fantastic afternoon, they were made to feel very welcome by everybody and their grown ups who came along to watch had a lovely time too.
Huge thanks to everybody who came to watch the concert, the children loved performing to you!

This week has been such fun in Acorns.
The Easter bunny made a very brief appearance at our classroom window and that set us off on an adventure to see if we could find him. Our adventures took us to St Peters 8-13 where we found traces that the bunny must have been! The children were so excited to discover eggs had been hidden all over the garden for them to find. We collected them in our baskets and then counted them when they had been discovered. We set off back to Nursery wondering where on earth that Bunny could be.
We have made our own Easter gardens to take home and the children were able to plant their own grass seed and will be able to watch it grow over the holiday.
We have played with foam looking like eggs and we have had fun constructing eggs with hair, bow ties and shoes. It has been a great week.!
We hope you are all able to have a very enjoyable holiday and a very Happy Easter.

RECEPTION
What an eggciting and eggcellent end to the Easter term we have had in Reception!
The children had great fun using their joining and fixing skills to make Easter baskets, showed off their creativity making Easter cards and thoroughly enjoyed their Easter egg hunts at the museum gardens, we are certain we spotted the Easter bunny too!
Our maths lessons have had a distinctly seasonal feel with lessons all about the composition of numbers to 10 using games involving lambs, chicks and rabbits! We even had wind up bunny and chick races in the provision with children racing then measuring a recording the distance their spring friend travelled.
We have read lots of books all about spring, life cycles, chicks and bunnies throughout the week and have loved singing our spring songs with Mrs Hayden. Our house singing competition rounded off the week beautifully and in fine voice!
We hope all our families have a wonderful time over the next three weeks and we really look forward to seeing you all again in the summer term!
Be sure to send us photos of what you have been up to on 'Evidence Me' so we can share them when you get back!
RECEPTION
A fabulous final week in Year One for this term, we can't quite believe that it is the Easter holidays already! The children have worked their socks off this term and we are so unbelievably proud of them all. This week we have been visiting the Rayson room and practicing our awesome assemblies for next term. These will take place on the first week back to school. 1C will be hosting their assembling on Wednesday, 1A on Thursday and 1E on Friday. We hope to see you all there and can't wait to share our wonderful learning with you from this term. Be prepared for a magical musical morning!
We have had an Easter fun filled week with lots of Easter crafts and STEAM challenges. The children loved designing and building a tower to hold the Easter egg.
As we write this week's newsletter, we are looking forward to house singing on Friday morning and can't wait to see which ABBA song each house has chosen. We wonder who will win...?
Have a magical Easter holiday everyone and we can't wait to get stuck into our theme in the Summer term.
It has been lovely to spend some time this week working on Easter crafts, such as bunny brooches, Easter baskets (will they be filled with eggs?), and Easter cards. This time of the term is always so busy and this week has been no exception.
On Tuesday we had our year group hockey tournament, in what turned out to be bitterly cold weather. The children showcased their skills learnt in PE this term and clearly loved competing in teams for their houses.
On Wednesday we took part in the Young Voices concert # 2, in the Memorial Hall at 13-18, along with the children from Burton Green Primary School.
The children all loved singing these songs again and it was great to see the two schools together.
Time in between these busy events has been spent on those Easter crafts. Sewing can be such a challenge but it was great to see the children remember the skills from earlier work and wearing their bunny brooches with pride!
This term has been filled with such exciting learning. The children have loved finding out about the polar regions, listening to our core text and working hard on all the challenges.
All the Year 2 Team wish the children and parents a happy Easter holiday. We will see you on Monday 24th April for the summer

What a fantastic end to a fantastic term! We finally made it all the way to Alaska! We enjoyed learning about the midnight sun that occurs in the Arctic Circle around the summer solstice, and we used the work of Jen Aranyi to inspire our own painting of the midnight sun using watercolours.
We have had such an exciting term, journeying all the way from Patagonia at the bottom of South America to arctic circle in Alaska. We have learnt so many things about the countries we have visited along the way, and we have been so proud of the children’s motivation, enthusiasm and passion to learn more about the world around them. It was a real treat to share our learning during our class assemblies that have taken place over the last two weeks.
We also enjoyed competing in our inter- house hockey tournament and joining together with Burton Green’s primary school choir for a fabulous music concert this week
We hope you all have a wonderful Easter break, and we look forward to welcoming the children back to start a new and very exciting learning adventure!
