Notice Board MUSICAL NOTES Wow, what a fabulous end to the half term we have had in music this week! Congratulations to all our fantastic performers from Years 1, 2 and 3. You performed so well in your concerts, the singing from all three year groups was amazing and all our soloists were so brave, some of you performing for the very first time. On Tuesday afternoon Year 1 all sang their hearts out to their parents and carers, and 27 children played the recorder, all for the first time in front of an audience. On Monday and Wednesday the choir
performed to a packed room, they sang some quite tricky songs and even had a go at rapping! On Monday, 47 Year 2 children played a solo ranging from the recorder, piano and guitar to violin. On Wednesday it was Year 3’s turn with 42 children performing on their instruments which also included, flutes, cornet and even the drum kit! What a musical bunch of superstars we have in school! Huge thanks to our fabulous team of visiting music teachers, we couldn’t have put on any of these concerts without their hard work.

RECEPTION STORY CLUB 8TH JUNE
With apologies, Reception Story Club is cancelled on 8th June. After School Care is available as usual.
Year 2 have had an extremely busy half term in their Core PE lessons focusing on athletics events in preparation for sports day. They have all taken part in the high jump, long jump and overarm throwing events. We have had a lot of children showing sheer determination to break last year's records. Incredible resilience also displayed when practicing the skills for the first time! In games, the children have worked incredibly hard on their cricket skills. Looking closely at the underarm throw and overarm bowling techniques. Most recently, the Year 2 children looked at a drive shot when batting. They showed a great deal of maturity to understand the importance of correct technique. Take a look at our young athletes in action! I hope you all have a restful break over half term.

ACORNS The excitement has been growing in Acorns this week as we make final preparations for our Royal Tea Party. The children have been making and decorating crowns to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. We have been talking about the Queen; where she lives and what she would like to eat at a garden tea party. We read a great book called “The Queen’s Hat” which took us on a journey around London. We saw Big Ben, The London Zoo, Tower Bridge and the Palace to name a few places. The Queen’s hat had blown away
and she, along with her guardsmen, tried to chase the hat across London. We enjoyed a lovely picnic in the luscious green grass and had fun throwing sticks into the river to see if they would float or sink! There were loads of dandelions that we were able to blow and the children were able to see how the seeds dispersed. In the dining hall, we were able to make our own sandwiches for our tea party and the children were brilliant at spreading the butter and then choosing their own fillings. We had a choice of jam, cheese or ham. It has been another wonderful week in Acorns and we hope you all have a very happy half term.

RECEPTION What a royally fabulous week this week in Reception! In preparation for our Jubilee party on Friday the children have all been busy making crowns and sashes. They worked collaboratively to measure around their heads and added jewels to make symmetrical or repeating patterns. The royal tailors have stiff competition! Reception have also been busy baking crown biscuits and decorating cupcakes as well as making bunting using red, white and blue decorations. Reception were also challenged with a cake stand competition, where in their classes they had to design and make a royal cake stand for their party on Friday. There was lots of talk about how to join the cake stands together, how many tiers they would have and how to decorate the cake stands. This week the children have also pretended to be Royal guards practising their marching and
they have gone on a 360° tour of Buckingham Palace where they discovered there are 775 rooms! In phonics we have played Feed the Corgi using our phase 3 sounds and in literacy we have read stories about the Queen’s knickers and the Queen’s hat. In maths we have been problem-solving corgi capers using addition and subtraction and made repeating patterns on crowns and royal jewellery. Some of the children also learnt how to play ‘Happy Jubilee to you’ on the chime bars in our music area. A highlight of the week has to be drawing the Queen’s portrait. We looked at different portraits of the queen throughout her reign and talked about the different styles in which they were painted. Following a step-by-step guide the children drew their own portraits of the Queen, which turned out incredibly well and will be on display soon in our Royal art gallery!

Another fabulous week in Year 1 and we can’t quite believe we are at the end of the first half of the Summer Term! We have been shark crazy this week and have been working in teams to find out fabulous facts for our persuasive videos about sharks that we are going to make after half term. Across the three classes we have been cocktail making, baking, and getting arty! The children have also used their fabulous shark knowledge to make top trump cards which they have then been playing with their friends.
YEAR 1
On Tuesday afternoon, we enjoyed the Year 1 music concert and we are all SO PROUD of you. We can't believe how many children stood up and performed solo and group pieces on their recorder. It was truly amazing! As we write this week’s news we are looking forward to our Jubilee celebrations on Friday afternoon - we have lots of fun games, activities and treats planned. Have a wonderful half term break everyone!

YEAR 2
YEAR 3 It has been a truly epic end to the first half of the Summer term in Year 3! Our recent adventures have taken us from Bombay to Calcutta and we have spent the week learning more about different Indian cultures and ways of life. We were very fortunate to have Thomas’ mummy come in to start our week with a relaxing and enjoyable meditation/yoga session. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had the opportunity to see some different Indian related instruments and artefacts. Alongside our thematic learning, the choir children and solo instrumentalists all took to the stage to showcase their musical talents in our school concert. Very well done to all the children who participated; you made us
very proud! On Thursday we had the hotly anticipated Swimming Gala which was another incredible showcase of the skill and talent our children possess. Resilience is a word which features heavily in our vocabulary in Year Three and across our school and it was fantastic to see all of our children demonstrating their ability to dig deep and keep trying, even when it got tough! Finally, we ended our busy week with a regal party to celebrate the Queens Jubilee. The children made their own decorations, baked tasty treats and danced to their hearts content! We would like to wish everyone a wonderful, relaxing break and look forward to continuing our learning journey when we return.
Y2/3 Swimming Gala Donations Thank you to everyone who attended our al fresco café yesterday prior to both swimming galas. It was a little windier and cooler than we had hoped (hence no gazebos - too windy!) but we still had a great turnout and we raised an amazing £106.06 for the school charity, The Children's Heart Surgery Fund. Thank you so much to everyone who came and donated so generously.
