CoMPasS Registered Charity No: 1141329 I hope you all enjoyed the half term break; it was great to hear the children’s stories about the variety of different places they had travelled to whether in the UK or abroad. The children were excited to be back at school this week and continued their learning journeys exactly where they left off. This is the first time we have been able to work with the Musical Connections charity for three years and I know Mrs Hayden is looking forward to being able to take more of our children next academic year, it’s such a valuable experience for our children and really does make such a positive difference to the older generation living in our community. Musical Connections run participatory music sessions and projects for older, isolated, and vulnerable people in care and community settings across York. They also run a large programme of intergenerational events and activities, which bring together our beneficiaries with local school children. The children were a delight and spread much joy to all the residents at Ebor Care Home in York. Today the children from Year 2 visited The Deep in Hull, and I know they have had an amazing time. It really has been such a busy and exciting week in school!
Wednesday we were joined by one of the artists from the group, Rupert Oldridge, aka Bass6. The children were amazed at all the different sounds Rupert could create - helicopters; drinks pouring; police cars; not to mention being a one-man disco machine providing the drums, bass and tune to lots of different songs! The children learned how to make some different BeatBox sounds and then put them to the test in a BeatBox Battle! Huge thanks to Mrs Hayden for organising the visit.

On Monday we received an unannounced visit from the Environmental Health Department to inspect the kitchen and dining room at St Peter’s 2-8. I’m delighted to share with you that the Inspector was very happy with all areas and awarded the school . My thanks to our Head Chef, Stuart Norwood and the catering team and also Craig Robinson, Catering Manager 2-18, for ensuring that we meet all the regulated requirements in this area.

In Acorns the children have been exploring travel, looking at where they might be going on holiday, and how they would get there. Conkers have been looking at the life cycle of a butterfly by watching the caterpillars turn into chrysalis and then hatch to form butterflies. The children then enjoyed releasing the butterflies into the wild. In Year 3 children have been cooking Singapore Noodles in the cookery room at St Peter’s 8-13 as they have travelled across Asia in their themed story, Phileas Fogg, Around the World in 80 Days. They have also started their drama workshops with Ms Veasey in the Drama studio, practising circus skills like Passepartout. They are looking forward to their workshop on China and Hong Kong with Mr Walker on Monday. Year 1 celebrated World Ocean Day on Wednesday and were inspired to create green screen films to educate people on the importance of sharks for the oceans and ecotourism. They made some very persuasive arguments, and I was impressed with the passion they demonstrated for this important area of conservation.

Notice Board MUSICAL NOTES We’ve had a really exciting return to school this week! On Wednesday we were joined by Rupert Oldridge aka Bass6 from The BeatBox Collective. The children (and staff!) were amazed at all the different sounds Rupert could make:- helicopters; drinks pouring; police cars; not to mention being a one-man disco machine providing the drums, bass and tune to lots of different songs! The children learned how to make some different BeatBox sounds and then put them to the test in a BeatBox Battle! It was a really fun day, a huge thank you to Rupert. On Thursday, 2H took a lot of sunshine and smiles to the residents of Ebor Care Home in York. They took part in a Musical Connections
Intergenerational session singing songs and making music with the residents. Mrs Hall and I were so proud of all the children, they are such a credit to our school. This is the first time we have been able to work with the Musical Connections charity for three years, we look forward to being able to take more of our children next academic year, it’s such a valuable experience for our children and really does make such a positive difference to the older generation living in our community. The residents are really looking forward to 2H’s return visit in a couple of weeks’ time where we will be continuing our seaside themed musical session!
PE The children have returned in great spirits after what sounded like a fantastic jubilee weekend. With sports day just around the corner, the children have continued to prepare for the big day. There have been some excellent performances throughout the week in a magnitude of different events. Here is a sneak peek of our budding athletes practicing for the big day.
ACORNS Beep beep, chug chug, choo choo! Cars, boats, trains and planes have been what we have loved this week in Acorns. The children have enjoyed telling us where they think they might go on holiday and how they are going to travel there. We went on a wonderful walk trying to spot as many different vehicles as we could. We came across a recycling truck, a police van, a lorry, a motor bike, lots of cars, a narrowboat, a rowing boat and a train. We also heard an aeroplane overhead! The children have learnt all about the different parts of a car. We
are getting really excited to find out exactly where we all might travel in the summer holidays. We have played with boats in the water, made peg aeroplanes and have our own Clifton airport in the classroom. The children have enjoyed sorting out which modes of transport belong where. They have been able to place the trains on the track, the boats in the sea, the cars on the road and the planes in the sky. We have sung the car song and learned how to sing very fast, very slow, very loudly and very softly. The Acorns have enjoyed PE and Italian. It has been another full and exciting week in Acorns. Watch this space as we begin to explore different countries to visit!
ACORNS
First comes a butterfly who lays an egg, Out comes a caterpillar with many legs Oh see the caterpillar spin and spin, A little chrysalis to sleep in, Out of the chrysalis my oh my, Wow! Such a pretty butterfly! After many weeks of tender loving care (and patience!) our butterflies emerged from their cocoons, ladybirds from their pupa, and we were able to set them free! Good luck in the real world!

RECEPTION Welcome back everybody to what promises to be a busy and fun filled half term! This week in between the rain showers we have had lots of outside play in the sunshine. There has been a McDonald's drive through in the mud kitchen, complete with menus, signs, speed ramps and even the famous Golden Arches! It has been lovely to see the children incorporating their writing in their play and shows just how far they have come over the year developing their skills. We have also had lots of plans created for ideas in the woodwork and in the construction area. Elsewhere our love of baking continues with
butterfly biscuits and scones being created and even some recipes written, move over Mary Berry! Lots of children have been sharing their holiday photos with us too and it's been great to share their adventures as well as listen to the children speak with such confidence. Our story focus in literacy this week has been The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children have enjoyed making their own caterpillar stories on the ChatterKid app. We are expecting some new little furry friends to arrive any day now to help us with our learning about lifecycles. Can you guess what they might be?

We online activities and spoke about our next really hope you are looking forward to mini project of helping our local blue space seeing them!
YEAR 1
(the River Ouse) and the further impact of plastic and pollution in the oceans. The activities were fantastic! We made coral reef mobiles, ocean paintings and took part in the interactive question and answer times! We also discovered ways to protect our deep blue and the reasons why we this is important. We learnt about pollution, climate change and how the ocean gives more oxygen than a rainforest!
Throughout the rest of the week, the children have worked collaboratively to take part in producing whole class pieces of artwork of the layers of the ocean (on a large scale!).
The children in 1C and 1E have had their turn to bake and make super shark buns by following simple instructions as well as the incredible under the ocean mocktails! Make sure you ask the children to make Also, this week, the children have all been some at home! incredibly busy recording their green All of this within just a few days! What a big screen videos to try to persuade people to difference these incredible little people can love sharks and the reasons why sharks make to this big wide world that we live are important for the oceans and in! ecotourism. It has been wonderful to see
YEAR 1
YEAR 2 We all came back from a lovely break rested and revived, ready to make the most of the last few weeks of being in Year 2! We have been making small world ocean boxes in art, which we will use in an animation project and it has been wonderful to see the imaginative worlds develop over the week. We have also started writing stories about an adventure under the sea which has led to lots of sharing ideas, something Year 2 are never short of! In maths we have been learning about statistics, which has been a great excuse to find out what our favourite ice creams are! The children did need
occasionally reminding that they are only allowed one vote when we are making a tally chart, such was their enthusiasm when they thought about ice creams! The work in maths has led to tally charts, pictograms and bar graphs and the children realised how important it is to be accurate when displaying information. Excitement has been building all week for our visit to The Deep on Friday. We are taking part in a workshop and exploring the amazing aquarium, looking for creatures that we have learnt about this term. We can’t wait!
YEAR 2
YEAR 3 What a fun filled week in Year 3! We started the week exploring whether Passepartout should help Detective Fix in the case of the bank robbery. We discussed the reasons for and against before putting our arguments together during class discussions.
Asia with Phileas Fogg. This half term the children will be taking part in drama workshops with Mrs Veasey in the Studio at St Peter's 13-18; this week 3M went to practise their circus skills, just like Passepartout in our story!
As Passepartout journeyed across India by elephant, we decided to research these magnificent mammals. Did you know that elephants are afraid of bees? We were fascinated by all the wonderful facts and enjoyed collating them in non-fiction information pages. Elephants inspired our artwork this week too; we explored decorated elephants from India and created beautiful and colourful wax resist paintings.
In maths, we investigated the properties of the different type of triangles before classifying angles within 2D shapes. We wrote our names in block capital letters and searched for obtuse, acute, and right angles within each letter.
On Wednesday, we had a wonderful time with Rupert from the Beat Box Collective. The children listened in awe to his wonderful sounds and enjoyed learning how to beat Thursday saw us down at the Cookery Room box themselves. It was great to see the at St Peter's 8-13 to make delicious children showcase their talents in fun beat Singapore noodles as we travelled across box battles!

But for one event every year we need more hands than ever! Yes, it's Clif-Fest! So, this is our call to arms, if you are planning to come to Clif-Fest with your family, and you can spare one hour in your day to help out with one of the games/bbq/bar/café/inflatables then we would really appreciate your help.
