can’t wait to hear all about it and hopefully they will be back in time for a few photos to be included. The final three weeks of term are extremely busy and you will have received an email today providing specific details of events that are scheduled to happen and events that you will be able to attend if you wish to do so. I have provided a summary on the following page for you to add to your diaries. On Wednesday we had our final Governors meeting of the year. The governors are volunteers and all give up their time freely to support all aspects of the school. I can’t thank them enough for all of their support of the school and the advice and counsel they provide. Two members of the governing body will retire at the end of the term. My sincerest thanks to Sue Palmer for all her dedicated work promoting St Peter’s 2-8. The school

and I know the list is not exhaustive. If you know of other great books on the subject of diversity, then please share them with us. We would love to hear about them. This has been an extremely busy week with so much going on for our children. On Monday the Year 3 children participated in a House Rounders competition. The competition was fierce and after many games the winning house was Walmgate– congratulations to all those who took part. On Tuesday Miss Flockhart, Miss Beaumont and the Year 3 staff organised a sports fixture to Yarm Preparatory School, my old school. The children all participated in a cricket workshop, learning new skills and enjoying the sport. It was good to hear from colleagues at Yarm that our Year 3 children were excellently behaved and such wonderful ambassadors for our school – well done Year 3. Today Year 2 have travelled to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in search of Madagascan animals as part of their theme throughout the term. We

beliefs. One way of promoting diversity is through children’s literature and the subsequent discussions around these stories. Thankfully, filling your child’s bookshelf with literature that celebrates the whole spectrum of life is slowly getting easier, with publishers and authors embracing a more realistic representation of the world, whether that’s reflecting racial diversity, normalising disabilities, including all sexualities or challenging gender stereotypes. Here are a number of examples that you may want to share with your children to explore the concept of diversity. All the way to America is a story about

immigration and it will have children asking parents and grandparents: Where did we come from? How did our family make the journey all the way to America? This is How We Do It, is a story about one day in the lives of seven children from around the world. Amazing Grace. Grace is an "amazing Peter Pan." This story inspires discussions about race, gender, role models, the limits to our ambitions, and the importance of imagination. The Proudest Blue is written by Olympic medallist Ibtihaj Muhammad and Morris Award finalist S.K. Ali. The Proudest Blue is an uplifting, universal story of new experiences, the unbreakable bond between siblings, and of being proud of who you are. We Are All Welcome follows a group of children through a day in their school, where everyone is welcome. A school where children in patkas, hijabs, baseball caps and yarmulkes play side by side. A school where students grow and learn from each other's traditions. A school where diversity is a strength. How To Make An Apple Pie - An apple pie is easy to make... if the market is open. But if

Next week is School Diversity Week and we will be supporting the charity Just Like Us throughout the week and teaching the children about different cultures and experiences and the importance of trying to understand everyone’s point of view no matter their background. Young children need to learn about all aspects of diversity and feel empowered to discuss what makes all of us unique, valued and respected in terms of culture, race, ethnicity, gender, education, disability, identity, nationality, religion, sexuality, social backgrounds, and

community have loved her visits and will always be indebted for her support of all capital investment into the school including our playground and dining hall. Additionally, thank you to Dr Ann Lees, who also has been a huge supporter of all our efforts at St Peter’s 2-8 and we have loved her visits to the school. She chaired the education committee and was always encouraging governors to visit St Peter’s 2-8 to experience working with our wonderful children and teachers. You will be missed by all of us and you are always welcome to visit at any time. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Best wishes,

RECEPTION SUN, SUN AND LOTS OF FUN! That truly sums up this week in Reception! Reception the children have had a secret mission this week! It is a special day on Sunday (Father’s Day) which has meant we have had to do some secret jobs! All will be revealed shortly but we have spent a great deal of time talking about our Dads and why they are special and some of the reasons why we love them so much! There are lots of creative Dads that make their children laugh, give amazing cuddles, cook amazing dinners and are just so kind! Outdoors has been very popular in the sunshine! The children have transformed themselves into a drumming band using scrap resources! The teamwork, collaboration and tune was incredible! The sound could be heard all around school! Watch this space for their first single in the charts! Following the theme of music outdoors, the children have been performing in dancing and singing shows. Dressed in style with headscarves, the children performed their hearts out on the stage! The enjoyment and fun had by all was just magical! More performances will be booked in for next week no doubt! We have also been working on our hand eye

coordination skills by creating the most incredible targets to practice shooting water shooters at! This was very popular amongst the children! Lots of children enjoyed challenging themselves by extending the length of the target and most importantly, had great fun with the water in the sun! On Thursday, another group of children went on another secret mission for our ‘Grand Exhibition’. The children had a visit to Love Cheese in Gillygate. The children bought some cheeses and even had some to try! But what is the cheese for? Make sure you come to the Grand Exhibition to find out! Where will the next group of children go on their secret mission next week? Inside has been just as busy this week! The children have been writing invitations for their friends to attend tea parties and birthdays! Champagne flutes, tea sets, afternoon tea and beautiful chinaware were all required for the special events. It has been wonderful to see so many special celebrations shared! To mark the finish of everyone sharing their backpack adventures, the children have been busy creating the flag of their own special place on fabric with paints. The attention to detail was superb and the flags looked beautiful and were hung up with pride! Have a lovely weekend in the sun!

RECEPTION

YEAR 1

We have had a gorgeous week in Year One and we have certainly made the most of the beautiful weather! In forest schools we had a glorious afternoon full of adventure and teamwork; we built dens, we climbed trees and we hunted around for snails after making them cosy homes in the big hotels. This week we have explored fractions and this of course involves lots of sweets

and cakes! We have investigated finding half of a shape and an amount and looked at why we could only equally share even amounts and not odd. We have started to write our very own books about The Elephants of the Tsunami and we are so excited to show you them at the Grand Exhibition! We have also been ever so busy crafting cards for Father’s Day on Sunday, we hope you love them!

YEAR 1

YEAR 1

YEAR 2

What a wonderful, sunny and action packed week we have had in Year 2! We started off at Forest School on Monday making sun prints, using special paper and shapes in nature. The science was great but the results were mixed! In maths we have started to learn about capacity and it was the perfect weather to go out into the Reception outside area to learn about this topic by filling jugs, bottles and pipettes, then working collaboratively to make a water carrier! On Wednesday we went in separate groups to the well equipped (but warm!) 8-13 cookery room, where we worked in pairs to follow a recipe for Madagascan cupcakes! The smell, when we put in the vanilla seeds, was amazing! Baking is such fun and Year 2 are so lucky to have Mrs Franey as part

of our team, who is Star Baker in anyone’s tent! On Thursday we did some more preparation for the very exciting Swimming Gala for Year 2, which is next Thursday. The children have all made such great progress in swimming and we are all very proud of them. As I write this, we have not yet visited the Yorkshire Wildlife Park- we visit on Friday! (We sneaked a couple of photos from our day at the last minute– see below!) It’s going to be a wonderful end to a busy week, so do get some rest this weekend, ahead of another busy one next week!

YEAR 3

What a fabulous week Year 3 have had!

resources. On Tuesday afternoon we had an exciting trip out to Yarm School for our first away sports fixture this year! We made some new friends and did some fun and exciting cricket drills and mini games. As the week has progressed, we have been learning exciting facts about Africa and African Giraffes – did you know that the giraffe is the tallest land animal in the world with an average height of around 5m?

We kicked off the week with an in-house Rounders tournament. Back in the classroom we continued our journey through Africa catching up with Tom in the capital of Sudan, Khartoum. We looked at the famous African artist Edward Tingatinga and his style of brightly patterned and An exciting week packed full of exciting learning! coloured animals.
