can’t wait to hear all about it and hopefully they will be back in time for a few photos to be included. The final three weeks of term are extremely busy and you will have received an email today providing specific details of events that are scheduled to happen and events that you will be able to attend if you wish to do so. I have provided a summary on the following page for you to add to your diaries. On Wednesday we had our final Governors meeting of the year. The governors are volunteers and all give up their time freely to support all aspects of the school. I can’t thank them enough for all of their support of the school and the advice and counsel they provide. Two members of the governing body will retire at the end of the term. My sincerest thanks to Sue Palmer for all her dedicated work promoting St Peter’s 2-8. The school

and I know the list is not exhaustive. If you know of other great books on the subject of diversity, then please share them with us. We would love to hear about them. This has been an extremely busy week with so much going on for our children. On Monday the Year 3 children participated in a House Rounders competition. The competition was fierce and after many games the winning house was Walmgate– congratulations to all those who took part. On Tuesday Miss Flockhart, Miss Beaumont and the Year 3 staff organised a sports fixture to Yarm Preparatory School, my old school. The children all participated in a cricket workshop, learning new skills and enjoying the sport. It was good to hear from colleagues at Yarm that our Year 3 children were excellently behaved and such wonderful ambassadors for our school – well done Year 3. Today Year 2 have travelled to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in search of Madagascan animals as part of their theme throughout the term. We

beliefs. One way of promoting diversity is through children’s literature and the subsequent discussions around these stories. Thankfully, filling your child’s bookshelf with literature that celebrates the whole spectrum of life is slowly getting easier, with publishers and authors embracing a more realistic representation of the world, whether that’s reflecting racial diversity, normalising disabilities, including all sexualities or challenging gender stereotypes. Here are a number of examples that you may want to share with your children to explore the concept of diversity. All the way to America is a story about

immigration and it will have children asking parents and grandparents: Where did we come from? How did our family make the journey all the way to America? This is How We Do It, is a story about one day in the lives of seven children from around the world. Amazing Grace. Grace is an "amazing Peter Pan." This story inspires discussions about race, gender, role models, the limits to our ambitions, and the importance of imagination. The Proudest Blue is written by Olympic medallist Ibtihaj Muhammad and Morris Award finalist S.K. Ali. The Proudest Blue is an uplifting, universal story of new experiences, the unbreakable bond between siblings, and of being proud of who you are. We Are All Welcome follows a group of children through a day in their school, where everyone is welcome. A school where children in patkas, hijabs, baseball caps and yarmulkes play side by side. A school where students grow and learn from each other's traditions. A school where diversity is a strength. How To Make An Apple Pie - An apple pie is easy to make... if the market is open. But if

Next week is School Diversity Week and we will be supporting the charity Just Like Us throughout the week and teaching the children about different cultures and experiences and the importance of trying to understand everyone’s point of view no matter their background. Young children need to learn about all aspects of diversity and feel empowered to discuss what makes all of us unique, valued and respected in terms of culture, race, ethnicity, gender, education, disability, identity, nationality, religion, sexuality, social backgrounds, and

community have loved her visits and will always be indebted for her support of all capital investment into the school including our playground and dining hall. Additionally, thank you to Dr Ann Lees, who also has been a huge supporter of all our efforts at St Peter’s 2-8 and we have loved her visits to the school. She chaired the education committee and was always encouraging governors to visit St Peter’s 2-8 to experience working with our wonderful children and teachers. You will be missed by all of us and you are always welcome to visit at any time. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Best wishes,
