What an amazing week we have had at St Peter’s 2-8. In the Monday morning assembly Lisa Williams from the Children’s Heart Foundation came with Katie Bear to receive a cheque from the school with all funds raised throughout the year, from charity work in school to many of the events that have been organised by the St Peter’s 2-8 Friends including the brilliant charity ball last Saturday. The school has raised over £5500 approximately for this great cause.

The final Sports day trophy will be presented at the End of Year Review and Celebration at the end of term. On Friday morning Mr and Mrs SimpsonDaniel visited school to explain to the children how they stared their business and how they are growing it. This is in response to the Year 1 children becoming entrepreneurs and having to design brands and marketing for their design of a chocolate bar. Mrs Simpson-Daniel told the children about the different types of packing that he uses for the different products and he told us about a very special chocolate which has 0% sugar in it. It is called Wizard Chocolate and it has very special ingredients such as honey and wolf berries! I was lucky enough to taste one of the products made with English Honey – it was delicious! Thank you so much for visiting us. We have been celebrating difference and diversity today for Pride Day by wearing multi-coloured clothes and decorating rainbows, some of which you can see around the playground. This morning the Acorn children went of a school trip to travel on a boat on the river Ouse. They walked to the quay where they embarked on their journey. When they returned, they all had an ice cream to cool down. They had a brilliant time and my thanks to Mrs Walters, Mrs Ferguson, Mrs Pennels and Miss Hopper for supervising the children. On Sunday we are hosting our Summer Fair at school, ‘Clif-Fest’. It promises to be a lovely family occasion for the school community and I hope to see you there.
TUESDAY
The charity was proposed by Sophia in Year 3 as she found out about the charity through her cousin Jacob, who was supported by the Children’s Heart Foundation as he was going through surgery and who also came to the assembly with his family. It was great to welcome new children to our induction afternoon on Tuesday. They all seemed to enjoy themselves and we look forward to welcoming them all at the start of term in September if not before. Sports Day was on Thursday this week
and what a wonderful occasion it was. Reception and Year 1 children competed in the morning and Year 2 and Year 3 children competed in the afternoon. The children were incredible, all of them tried their absolute best for themselves and their house and most importantly of all, they did it with a huge smile on their face. Every child took part in a variety of events on the day and prior to Sports Day children competed in field events such as high jump, long jump and ball throw. Despite the very warm weather the children performed extremely well, with some children breaking school records. At the end of both events two athletes of the day were selected, a Rita Resilience Award was presented as well as a sportsperson award too. My thanks to all the children for trying so hard for their house, to the parents who came to spectate and cheer all children, the grounds and estates teams for preparing the venue, the catering team for keeping us all refreshed, the teaching and teaching assistant staff who supervised and organised the children and to Miss Flockhart (assisted by Miss Hopper) who organised two brilliant sports days. Next Friday will be the Nursery Showcase and I am thoroughly looking forward to that.

Notice Board SCHOOL COUNCIL School council have had a busy week with the sales of sunflower seeds for a charity in York that helps displaced Ukrainian children living in York and also delivering our first collection of used batteries to Mrs S Hall in St. Peter’s Geography department who will arrange, with her eco club, for them to be recycled safely. We took three bags full! Well done school council for inspiring school to support these two valuable initiatives.

SPORTS DAY 2022 Well the sun was shining on possibly one of the hottest days this year and I was so proud of all my superstars on Sports Day this week. The children have worked extremely hard on their practical skills the last few weeks in PE and it was amazing to see them in action. The atmosphere was fantastic and it made me burst with pride seeing everybody smiling and cheering on one another in their races.

RECEPTION What another glorious week in Reception! In preparation for our trip to Filey next week, we have started to think about what we will see at the seaside and all the fun things we can do when we get there. The children have been so busy with their learning; making hand and finger puppets, drawing story maps, and performing plays in our puppet theatre. Baking scones to develop their maths skills and building sandcastles and boats outside in the sandpit. The hairdressers is still very popular, with the children creating wonderful new hairstyles and adding accessories to complete the look. In maths we have been working hard on our number bonds making number bond
bracelets, played water gun shootouts and building Lego towers. Dough discos have warmed us up for handwriting sessions and the children have all been working hard on letter formation. On Tuesday, Reception children went to visit Year One for the afternoon and had so much fun meeting their new teachers. They explored their new classrooms and played with their new classmates. This week has also been busy with Sports Day! We made flags and banners so we could cheer our houses on, and all the children did amazingly in their races. We were so proud of them! Well done Reception for another busy week!
RECEPTION
YEAR 1
What a busy and sunny week we have had! This week has been as action-packed as always and we can't quite believe it is Friday already! We enjoyed our moving up afternoon on Tuesday and we got to packaging and a character to meet our new teachers and explore represent our biscuits. Finally, we our new classrooms. chose a type of sustainable packaging such as bio plastic or We have been collaborating in recycled plastic. groups to design a new type of sustainable packaging for Tesco malt biscuits. We brainstormed fabulous new names that included alliteration and a play on words such as 'Maltelicious Munchers' and 'Moreish Marvellous Milk Biscuits'. We then designed patterns for the
The sun shone for Sports Day and we all had a great time cheering on our houses and our friends! It was great to see such wonderful sportsmanship from the whole of Year 1!
YEAR 1
YEAR 2 As the weather has got warmer, we have become even busier! This week we have been working on our animations, following the construction of our Under the Sea boxes. It has been great to see the children working together to solve problems which always arise when working with technology! We know that some children enjoy making animation films at home and we love seeing the results! In science we had a great time investigating the story of Freddie the Fish. First we read the story of ‘Somebody Swallowed Stanley’ and talked about different types of pollution in our oceans. Most of the children understand about plastics, but some thought for the first time about sun cream and detergents in the water, as well as sewage and diesel oil. Then we
listened to the story of Freddie the Fish, swimming through the ocean. Each time he came across some pollution, we worked in groups to add something to the water that our ‘fish’ was swimming in. By the end of the story, we could see with our own eyes just how hard it was for Freddie to survive and, in fact, he became sick and died. (Just to reassure you- we used coffee granules for sewage - phew!) The excitement is building for so many events. Sports Day promises to be hot, hot, hot and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the dry weather stays for Bridlington. Gran Betty can’t wait to see us all! All of the Year 2 teachers are enjoying spending time with our lovely classes before the end of the year and we think the children feel the same! Happy weekend all!
YEAR 2
YEAR 3 Year 3 have had another busy week full of enjoyment and adventure. In preparation for our End of Year Celebration, the children have been doing extra rehearsals and have been singing their hearts out with Mrs Hayden; they are very much looking forward to performing in front of the rest of school and grown-ups in a couple of weeks’ time. On Tuesday we dropped the children off for lunch at 8-13 and they spent the afternoon meeting their new teachers and mixing with new friends in their new classes. They all came back to school buzzing with excitement and it was wonderful to hear about what they got up to. Thursday was the hotly anticipated Sports Day which was superbly organised by Miss Flockhart. The children took great pleasure and pride in representing their houses and it was
wonderful to see them supporting each other during the event. This week in school we have been celebrating Pride Week and in Year 3 we have been discussing things that we are proud of. We talked about the importance of celebrating everybody’s individuality and all enjoyed dressing up in bright colours with the rest of the school. As we draw closer to the end of term, we continue to journey around the world with Phileas Fogg and can’t wait to find out if we will make it back in the 80 days we’ve got! Just like Passepartout in our story, we joined the circus this week and learnt new skills and tricks with hoops. Thank you Ms Veasey for arranging this for us. We are journeying through America at the moment and look forward to discovering where our adventure will take us next week!
