You can follow us Unfortunately Wednesday’s Gamelan workshop for the Year 1 children was cancelled by York University however, Billy Hickling has agreed to lead a musical workshop on Monday afternoon for the Year 1 children. St Peter’s 13-18 children have their Cabaret concert tonight. I have been fortunate to watch their rehearsals this week and the show sounds fabulous! It is tremendous to watch the children who started their school career at St Peter’s 2-8 who have the musicality and confidence to perform so capably. The children at St Peter’s 2-8 have so much to look forward to on their journey through St Peter’s school. Next week there will be a link to the concert– I am sure you will all enjoy it.
What a week we have had at St Peter’s 2-8. The children have had such a wonderful time as they head towards the end of their learning themes and the end of the academic year. On Monday Nursery, Year 2 and 3 had the wonderful Billy Hickling, an original member of the musical Stomp, who delivered the most fantastic ‘Trash Bang’ workshop. The children were amazed by his short performances and thoroughly On Tuesday we hosted our Sports Day. enjoyed making music with Billy and their Reception and Year 1 competed in the classmates. morning and Year 2 and Year 3 in the afternoon. The day was just brilliant! The children all did their very best for their house teams, all in the best spirit and all with smiles on their faces. It was so lovely to be able to allow paretns to spectate both in person and via our live streaming platform, Planet eStream. Whether virtually or in person, there was a wonderful atmosphere and the children absolutely loved it. These events don’t just happen, and thanks are due to the catering team for keeping each ‘bubble’ of parents fed and watered, the estates and grounds team for setting up the events, the staff at school who ensured the children were in the right place at the right time and our IT staff Adam and James who baked in the sunshine recording the event for everyone to watch
Newsletter No: 33 Friday, 2nd July 2021 from home! What a team effort. Particular thanks must go to Miss Flockhart, ably assisted by Miss Beaumont, who organised a fabulous day for the children. Thank you!
All of the children were brilliant, but a particular well done to Martha (Year 1) and Hugh (Reception) and to Micklegate for winning the Reception and Year 1 Sports Day trophy. Congratulations also to Edward (Year 2) and Noah (Year 3) and to Micklegate and Walmgate, who jointly won the Year 2 and Year 3 Sports Day. The overall house winners will be presented at our final assembly on Thursday next week. A link has been shared by email if you would like to watch Sports Day again. A final huge thank you to the Friends of St Peter’s 2-8, who generously donated the house t-shirts that were such a fantastic success. On Wednesday it was the turn of our Nursery Conkers to participate in their Nursery showcase. Once again it was delightful watching the children enjoy the event all with beaming smiles. Than k you to the parents who attended and to the staff for supporting the children and to Miss Flockhart and Miss Beaumont for their energy, enthusiasm, humour and skill to coordinate 30+ three and four year old children so effortlessly. Another brilliant
event. During a meeting with the house captains, the decided that it would be a good idea for the whole school to go to the beach! Obviously we agreed, but suggested we might have to bring the beach to school. This resulted in Beach Day, held yesterday at St Peter’s 2-8. In our year groups we enjoyed playing on the inflatables including an assault course, a bouncy castle, a ball pool and a bungee run. Our catering team created a fabulous fish and chip lunch served in traditional newspaper cones and we even had an ice-cream van after lunch for the children and staff to enjoy ice lollies and ice-creams. It was such a brilliant day and once again my thanks to all of the staff who organised the event and to the house captains for their excellent idea.
Next week we have our grand Exhibition, Trash Bang Workshop in Year 1, year group discos, Nursery Graduation (online via Zoom -/ in person) and final assembly. My thanks to the whole school community who are providing such a memorable and special end of the term. Have a wonderful weekend, Best wishes,

Notice Board What a fabulous start to the week we had! Children in Nursery, Year 2 and Year 3 were treated to a fantastic workshop with the Trashbang Man Billy Hickling. Billy has been Musical Director for the stage show STOMP! so the children had lots of fun learning new rhythms to
MUSICAL NOTES
play and even a few tricks with beaters! All the instruments were made from recycled materials proving you can make music with just about any old junk! Year 1 had been looking forward to their Gamelan workshop on Wednesday. Unfortunately this had to be cancelled at the last minute. The children showed so much resilience in their Music lessons on Wednesday and enjoyed playing their own version of Sunset in Bali on our chime bars instead. I’m pleased to say the Trashbang Man is able to come back on Monday just for Year 1 so there will be lots of fun and noise to look forward to next week!
READING BOOKS From Monday, the children will start accessing reading books at home via their Bug Club accounts. You will also be able to access these books over the summer holidays, if you so wish. The children will continue to read physical books in school next week, they just will not be sent home.
York Open Studios returns this year from 10-11 and 17-18 July, with an exciting programme of exhibitions featuring four artists from St Peter's School. Chris Hall, Hazel Battersby and Penny Phillips from the St Peter's School Art Department and Jane Wright, a peripatetic music teacher at St Peter's, will be joining 142 other artists across York for this year's event.

Well the sun was shining and I was so proud of all my superstars on Sports Day and the Nursery PE Showcase this week. The children have worked extremely hard on their practical skills the last few weeks in PE and it was amazing to see them in action in front of a live audience. The atmosphere was fantastic after a two year delay! It made me burst with pride seeing everybody smiling and cheering one another on in their races. But ultimately
a massive thank you to St Peter’s 2-8 Friends for providing the coloured house t-shirts, the children looked incredibly smart! However the day would not have been possible without a huge team behind me! Therefore I would like to thank Miss Beaumont and all the teachers and teaching assistants for helping to organise the children for their races. Thank you to Barry and James who made the live streaming of the event happen. Huge
PE
thanks to the catering team and Estates/Grounds team for their tremendous work a huge team effort. My biggest thanks goes to all the parents, grandparents and carers who came to spectate. You created a lovely atmosphere and it was so nice to welcome you back onto the St Peter’s site, whether it was virtually on in person.

ACORNS
It's been another exciting week for the Acorns.
We've not only enjoyed more time outside but we also had another sneak into the Conkers room! We had so much fun exploring the different areas to play in and we are getting so confident with knowing where everything is! So far, I think the most popular place has to be the snack table… look how independent we are already! We just can't wait to be a real Conker soon!
This week Conkers showed us what all -round champions and superstars they are! From music with the Trash Bang man to water colour painting and of course their amazing PE showcase! So proud of them all!
CONKERS
RECEPTION Our penultimate week before the summer holiday and it’s been lovely! We are so proud of all our Reception children for all the effort they put into Sports Day - weren’t they fabulous! There was so much sportsmanship between the children, lots of pats on the backs and high fives for trying their hardest in the races. When we returned to class we were so inspired we asked to watch some professional athletes racing. This led us to creating our own course outside… this time for horses racing! We had a commentator and jockeys telling us the name of their horses. We timed our races as well to see how fast we could go! As we approach our Grand Exhibition, the children have been finishing making their final few products…not long until all can be revealed! Some of our children even took a walk down to the market to buy some exotic fruit from around the world. We bought pineapples from Panama, oranges from Spain and pears from Kent. We estimated the cost of our fruit selection and one of us managed to guess the correct amount! A lovely
man at the market even offered to buy some of our fruit for us. The children were overwhelmed with the kindness! We stopped at the Museum Gardens on the way home as we couldn’t resist nibbling on some of the strawberries and blueberries. In the afternoon we continued our adventures down to Forest School where we made dens, roasted marshmallows over the fire we had made and whittled sticks. In our play we’ve also been creating our own target practice with loose parts, continuing with building our giant train track, making up our own games of Numberblocks snap and building new Numberblocks characters!
Thank you to all the mummies and daddies for the wedding photos you have sent in. We’ve been looking at them and discussing all the beautiful dresses and flowers! This has followed on really nicely from our weddings at Forest School. We’ve loved it so much we have been playing weddings in our pop up role play area. A lot of our children have now had a gorgeous wedding day! We had so much fun at our Beach Party on Thursday on the inflatables, eating ice cream and running around with our super soakers! We can’t quite believe the final week is here, it’s going to packed to the brim with lots of fun activities creating our final beautiful memories of being in Reception.
RECEPTION
What a busy week we have had in Year 1. On Tuesday morning we loved taking part in our first school Sports Day. We enjoyed cheering for all of the houses and our friends. We are so proud of all the children, they showed great resilience and friendship throughout the whole morning.
YEAR 1
Our preparations are still underway for your visit to us next Tuesday as we make lots of goodies for our bags, ready to share with you. The fun-filled week did not end there! On Thursday it was our beautiful beach day, we had water fights, fish and chips, ice-cream and inflatables. We have also been making curry pastes, chutneys, painting, sewing, building, robotics… the list is endless!
The Year One team are looking for parents who would be willing to come and read with our children next academic year. There are three classes so ideally we would be looking for 3 or more volunteers who could commit an hour or more a week (although this could be rotated if we receive a lot of interest). Unfortunately we cannot accept parents who will have children in Year 1 from September 2021. We look forward to hearing from you!
YEAR 1
YEAR 1
Mrs Hall doesn’t know where to start writing about our action packed week- it’s been so filled with activities and excitement! On Monday afternoon we headed to the forest, to paint pictures of trees. As we reach the end of this academic year, it is so obvious that the children have made tremendous progress in all areas. In art they are such confident and happy painters and it was a joy to see them all concentrating and taking such pleasure in the activity. On Tuesday we loved our drumming workshop with Billy from Trash Bang. Watching the children work with Billy and Mrs Hayden was great- they enjoyed using the drums and had such a great sense of rhythm. We were able to
wear our own designed and printed African Tshirts to the workshop, which looked brilliant! In the afternoon it was finally time for the much anticipated… Sports Day! We were all so proud of the children’s sporting achievements and I would like to mention Edward B’s award for carrying on after a nasty fall and Tom B’s award for Sportsmanship- well deserved. We have packed in self-portraits in art, Beach Day, swimming and even more baking as well, delicious vanilla biscuits this time, in order to raise awareness and money for the charity Vanilla for Change. The Year 2 staff will be recharging their batteries over the weekend and hopefully the children will too. Well done Year 2!
As we have unfortunately had to cancel our visit to Bridlington on Monday, the Year 2 team have been organising an alternative day for the children. We will be having a play swim, a picnic lunch and playing rounders. We will have a camp fire if the weather is fine. The children can come in home clothes, appropriate for games outside and please bring swimming kit. Thank you from the Year 2 team
YEAR 2
What a week it has been! We can hardly believe our time to Year Three is almost over. We have made the very most of all our exciting opportunities, starting with learning all about the Masai Mara tribe in Africa. We found out that the women were in charge of building the houses, whilst the men focussed on building fences to keep the lions out! Inspired by Martin Bulinya, we used watercolours and sharpies to create some detailed Masai tribe illustrations.
YEAR 3
Beach day on Thursday was a real treat and we had a fantastic time on the inflatables, eating fish and chips and not forgetting our ice creams! Finally, to round off a busy week, we had a great day today swimming, playing at forest school and eating delicious pizzas from Mamma Mia. We were very sad not to be able to go on our trip to Xscape, but the children had a wonderful day in school and it was a lovely opportunity to spend some time with each other doing the activities they love best!
We are very much looking forward to our last few On Tuesday we showed off our sporting ability in days and can’t wait to see if Tom, the character the hotly anticipated St Peter’s 2-8 Sports Day! We from our story, manages to reach his final had great fun competing in our houses and putting destination! our skills on show for our parents.
