It has been another exciting week at St Peter’s 2 8. I have really enjoyed listening to the children singing Christmas Carols and songs with the festive melodies resonating around school. I am sure like me you are looking forward to the Christingle Service and watching the children perform in their Christmas performances. All the details for these events can be found on page 2 of the newsletter. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the School Office schooloffice2 8@stpetersyork.org.uk

In the newsletter last week we included information regarding a new development the school are planning to create. The planning application for a new access road, parking and a synthetic pitch have now been sent to the City of York Council and is live on the planning portal. This is a fantastic

development for the school and for the local community who will have increased access to our sports facilities. Please do show your support by adding a comment on the portal which can be found here. If you would like further information on the development, further information can be found on the school website

Today our School Councillors and House Captains had the opportunity to help the Minster raise the Advent Wreath. The children enjoyed helping the staff decorate the wreath and place the large candles on its frame. The wreath was then hoisted up into the air and placed in position for the festive season. Huge thanks to the Minster staff and our children for their help and support.

On Monday Mrs Clarke led the school assembly to explain our school charity and everything we will be doing to raise

awareness and funds. This year the children have chosen to support two charities. Zarack, who are committed to helping children and families living in poverty crisis. The children were told of our three part support;

1. Buy a soft toy, game and pyjamas and place them in one of the house boxes located in the reception area of school.

2. Children can attend a film night and make a £3 donation which will be collected prior to the film.

3. Christmas Activity Funday proceeds will go towards the charity.

We are attempting to raise £1,500 to purchase 10 bed bundles, this will mean that 10 children will wake up on Christmas day in a cosy bed. The children were reminded that Christmas is a time for giving and they should think of the children’s smiling faces waking up in a new bed at Christmas. Please see further details later in the newsletter.

This weekend it is exeat for St Peter’s 8 18.

With no swimming for Reception or U18 girls hockey matches I am therefore taking the opportunity to visit Twickenham, to watch the England v South Africa rugby game with my son. I must admit I’m not sure which of us is the more excited, it certainly promises to be a very enjoyable weekend.

Can I please remind all parents of Reception that there is no swimming tomorrow.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

This week’s spotlight is on Year 1

During our core PE lessons, the children produced brilliant balances with their partners. We also explored various shapes and it was excellent to see the children work so well together. Netball is our other focus this term. Year 1 practiced their chest passing, gauging the right power and height needed to execute the pass. It was a great time to practise our core skills. Most importantly their hand eye co ordination and reaction time which were put to the test.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Acorns

The Acorns have had an extraordinary week. Each of them has been involved in the making of our filmed Nativity. We cannot wait to see the end result! We took the film crew, the packed lunches (to keep the energy levels up as filming is tiring business!), the cast and all the props to the Museum gardens for the making of the film. It was such a brilliant experience. There are still some final touches needing to be made but we are getting very excited for the production in just over a weeks time. Along side our filming, we have been making dens in the classroom and playing with the toys inside the den. We have done some very complicated threading which has helped our fine motor skills. The Acorns have loved giving their little people some coloured beads for a groovy hairstyle.

Our experiment using skittle’s was impressive. We watched and waited to see the rainbow pattern that appeared after adding hot water to the bowl. It was fascinating to see the rainbow emerge. Lots of singing for the performance has taken place during music lessons and that about sums it up for the week!

CONKERS

Apologies! We regret to inform you that there are no appointments left at the Conkers nail salon. The independent play, that started in the home corner last week, has certainly taken centre stage this week. The children took turns on reception, painting their friends nails, or best of all being pampered ourselves with the real nail varnish and snazzy nail stickers. Whilst waiting for their appointments the Conkers have not been sitting idle, we have made our own Christmas wrapping paper, baked pizzas and also been spotted sneaking around school finding shapes. Phew!

RECEPTION

What a busy and exciting week we have had in Reception! The sound of Christmas bells have certainly been in the air this week and our Reception super stars have been in fine voice, practising their Christmas songs not only in their music lessons but spontaneously throughout the day! We have also taken to the dance floor to learn some special dance moves for our upcoming Nativity - watch out Strictly Come Dancing we have professionals in the making! Each class had a lovely afternoon at Homestead Park taking part in a photographic treasure hunt looking for different images, for example of; something beautiful, something funny, a sign of winter, a home for an animal or an example of five in nature! We also visited the new Christmas Carol sculpture display, it was enchanting. The children’s development of a deep understanding of numbers to 5 has certainly been apparent in our maths lessons this week as they explore the composition of numbers through games and songs involving tens frames, songs, the part-part-whole model, numicon and dice! In our phonics learning this week we have had some terrifying dinosaurs visit Reception, fortunately we wrote them plenty of words and fed them carefully with tweezers which seemed to sate their appetite! We are looking forward to more excitement, learning adventures and Christmas cheer next week!

YEAR 1

Wow, wow, wow! What a fantastic week we have had in Year One. This week we have been incredibly busy practicing for our Christmas play. The children have been practicing singing their songs beautifully and saying their lines loudly. Keep practicing at home everyone, not long to go! Using our brilliant art skills, we have been continuing to sketch with accuracy and to scale and use watercolours to create more rainforest animals in provision. The children have blown us away with their skill and creativity. On Wednesday morning, we were delighted to invite Year One grown ups to our art exhibition, and it was fabulous morning! The children were so excited to share and sell their artwork to you all and we could not have been prouder. We hope you all enjoyed doing in with some relaxing drawing too. Thank you all so much for coming and supporting us with raising money to buy and protect a piece of rainforest. The children have been so passionate about this cause and are so proud to have worked together to raise this money. Have a brilliant weekend everyone and we can't wait for more fun next week.

YEAR 1

YEAR 2

‘Visit Greece!’ Has been our theme this week and we have been looking at why Greece would be a brilliant place to visit holiday. The children have loved researching animals, watersports, food, traditional costume and other interesting persuade you to visit Greece on your holidays. The children worked collaboratively to create brilliant, eye catching posters with headings and subheadings and I think you'll agree they are very persuasive! The teachers certainly to feel like a holiday to Greece would be just what they needed!

Yesterday 2J excitedly visited the 13 18 Art Department for their clay workshop and they can't wait to get their fired back from the kiln. In art this week we were inspired by the blue and white villages of the Greek islands like Santorini. children used different shades of blue and white paper to create village collages which I think you'll all agree look striking.

In maths we have been exploring subtraction and have used number lines, number squares and the partitioning method to subtract 1,2 and 3 digit number.

Have a lovely weekend.

It has been a busy and exciting week of rehearsals in

As we prepare for our Christmas performance ‘Aladdin Trouble’, the children have been focussing on using their expression and body language to help bring their characters to life. In drama sessions with Ms Veasey, they have been working on movement and honing their acting skills. The children are incredibly excited to be performing in front of an audience and can’t wait to put on an exciting show for you all!

We have continued to read our text ‘George’s Secret Key to the Universe’ in class and followed the main characters into outer space…whilst riding on a comet no less! The children have had fun creating their own additional characters and will bring them to life next week, using everything we know about well descriptive writing. In maths we have been carrying out problem solving and reasoning challenges using our knowledge of column subtraction. It has been wonderful to see the children attack their learning with increasing resilience and independence. Next week we are looking forward to visiting Yarm for an afternoon of sport and kick starting Christmas with a trip to the theatre to see Nativity the Musical! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
