Week two of the Autumn term is always a special one. After the inevitable nerves and adjustments of week one as the children settle, in week two we begin to feel like a school family again and it’s always heartening to observe the children feeling comfortable and confident in their school environment making connections with each other and the adults and getting immersed in their learning.

Building positive relationships through social interactions, navigating friendships and learning how to communicate effectively are all essential elements of the hidden curriculum and offer so much learning in terms of personal development and emotional literacy. In assembly on Monday, I reminded the children of our three very important Be’s which are Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Ready. We use these to help the children to learn and thrive together as a school family and be able to make choices for themselves and for the benefit of others.

I hope those of you who attended our Parent Information Evenings found them informative and valuable. At the start of the presentation, I spoke about our ethos and the fundamental principles that guide us in educating your children.

• We value the joy and wonder of childhood

• We know that children are capable, competent and curious

• We know the importance of early childhood education

• We want children to enjoy being at school and have fun!

• We seek to foster a sense of belonging where every child feels seen, valued and heard

• We know that learning and teaching is incredibly complex

• We continually reflect and refine our practice

It's important that we all keep these in mind if we strive to provide educational excellence.

Next week Sam Dickinson, an Old Peterite is visiting school and will be speaking to the children and telling us all about the triathlon and his journey to the Paris Olympics which saw him win a bronze medal. As we had a whole school Olympic theme we can’t wait to meet him, and the children are full of questions to ask. We are also hoping that Sam will bring in his medal to show us. It’s wonderful for our children to be inspired by the Peterite’s who came before them and be able to have big dreams for the future.

From Wednesday to Friday next week I will be attending the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Heads Conference. This gives an opportunity to listen to eminent experts from the education sector and to share and gain insight from other Heads on current and emerging issues and opportunities.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

School Council

Well done to all our new school council representatives who have been voted onto the School Council by their class.

I'm looking forward to an exciting term ahead where you will be the voice of your class to share their ideas on ways to improve the school and the world around us. We will meet people from other areas of the school and be able to work together to try to make our school better for the children and more sustainable to help our environment .

The Whole School Fundraising Day - Friday 27th September 2024.

Last term we had planned a whole school fundraising day to coincide with the Feast of St Peter, which we postponed because the outstanding 1st XI Cricket Team made it through to the finals at Lords Cricket Ground on the same day.

Our new date is Friday 27th September when we are asking all pupils and staff and OPs to participate in a whole school sponsored walk, run or swim.

Some may not be able to take part on the day but can still plan an activity of their own choice. No enterprise is too small, and every effort is worthwhile.

This is intended to be a pupil led fundraising day so we hope they will find lots of innovative ways to raise their sponsorship money. If each pupil raises £10, we will be able to donate over £12,000! All money raised will be split equally across the following organisations:

The Island York Mind

MND Association Rob Burrow Campaign

My Name’5 Doddie Foundation

St Peter’s School Keys for Life Bursary Campaign

A reminder that you are requested to pay in your sponsorship money or donate on our fundraising page here and the last day the page will take donations is Monday 30th September 2024.

A huge thank you to everyone for their support of this very special school initiative.
