The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of the Cathedral of St. Philip are thrilled to announce Cathedral Giving by Design. Formerly The Cathedral Antiques Show, Cathedral Giving By Design will continue our 50 year history of supporting vital non-profit organizations within the Atlanta community. The inaugural event will be held January 20-21, 2023. Please save the date and stay tuned for more details!

The beneficiary selection process for the 2023 event has begun, and we welcome potential new candidates.

You can email potential candidate information to the Beneficiary Selection Committee Chairs, Julie Rief and Caroline Wallace, at applications@cathedralgivingbydesign.org. Organizations are invited to apply until February 11, 2022, and only the electronic application will be accepted.

In the meantime, we want to celebrate the tremendous legacy of the Cathedral Antiques Show and share more exciting plans for the 2023 Cathedral Giving By Design event. Please save the date for Saturday, April 30, 2022 for “A Celebration of Giving.”

VOCES8 is one of the most sensational choirs on the international music scene, having earned its reputation by touring throughout the world, more than a dozen critically acclaimed compact discs, and ravishingly beautiful virtual concerts and YouTube videos.

Their eagerly anticipated return to the Cathedral is certain to grace us with one of the most breathtakingly beautiful evenings of music anywhere in Atlanta this season.

ALLEGRO Classes are based on age, through age 8. Caregiver attends with the child/children in Musikgarten. All classes are $125 for first child, $100 for each additional child, except for K-2 Allegro Choir ($100 for all).

Cherubs (ages 3-5) Cherubs will have the option to sing in church services with Allegro Choir.

MUSIC FOR YOUNG CHILDREN The Music Department and Children’s Ministries jointly sponsor Allegro: Music for Young Children, for children through age 8, using the Musikgarten curriculum. We also offer the Allegro Choir for kindergarten, first, and second grades. Using play, movement, singing, and instruments, Allegro and Musikgarten classes help younger children develop musical skills and knowledge as well as an appreciation for music. Children and their parents find this to be a wonderful introduction to the music program at the Cathedral.

Classes are held in the Allegro room, downstairs next to the choir room, and are taught by Sarah Cauthen. Participants need not be members of the Cathedral of St. Philip.

Allegro Choir (Kindergarten through Grade 2) Allegro Choir sings the Song of Praise for 3 or 4 Cathedral services each year, along with the Christmas Eve Pageant the afternoon of December 24, and for the Easter Vigil on Easter Day. •

St. Veronica's GUILD ST. VERONICA'S GUILD TOILETRIES DRIVE In Epiphany, the Wise Men came on their camels, bringing gifts to the Christ Child. St. Veronica’s Guild uses the symbol of the camel bringing the Wise Men’s gifts to Jesus as an invitation to you to help spread the gift of God’s love for all of his family. Please help St. Veronica’s Guild this Epiphany by giving gifts of funds to purchase toiletries for our neighbors served by Emmaus House, Crossroads Community Ministries, Church of the Common Ground, and Holy Comforter Episcopal Church Friendship Center.

St. Veronica’s Guild gives toiletries to these ministries throughout each year to use with people affected by poverty, inadequate housing, or poor health. As these ministries have responded to the pandemic, personal care items are even more important to maintain health, but usually are only available through private donations like those of St. Veronica’s Guild. To safely meet the ministries’ increased needs in the pandemic, the guild has shifted from collecting personal care items to bulk purchasing and distribution. While the bulk purchasing has proven more flexible and cost efficient for increased needs, funds are needed to augment the pre-pandemic earmarked monies.

SecureGive donations to the St. Veronica’s toiletries ministry can be made at cathedralATL.org/epiphany or at the Atrium kiosk.

Donations of any size make a big difference and help people feel better. A few dollars add family size soap bars for the Emmaus House food pantry or fill a Crossroad guest’s hygiene kit.

The guild’s signature Epiphany camel sits near the Cathedral Atrium kiosk. She symbolizes the Epiphany tradition of offering gifts for those in need and conveys thanks for your generosity.

Procession & Choral Eucharist for the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord Sunday, February 6 4 p.m.

SPIRITUALITY WOMEN’S LENTEN RETREAT – BE STILL AND KNOW Cathedral women, along with women friends or relatives, are invited to attend our annual Lenten Retreat, March 18-20 at St. Mary’s Sewanee in Tennessee. This retreat will be just that—a retreat—with very little programming and lots of space to tend to your mind, body and soul.

We will gather for meals, prayer and optional prompts for creativity and mindfulness.

In the beautiful setting of St. Mary’s Sewanee, there will be plenty of time to rest, play, enjoy the outdoors, and be in fellowship with God and one another.

The retreat will be led by the Rev. Lauren Holder, Canon for Community and Education. Costs for the weekend, which cover lodging and meals, are $290 (private room) or $230 per person (shared/double room). The deadline for registration and payment is February 18. Canon George Maxwell will be using Ilia Delio's book “Making All Things New: Catholicity, Cosmology, Consciousness” as a guide through twentieth century Jesuit scientist Pierre Teilhard de Chardin's belief that our salvation lies in becoming one with the universe.
