The Requiem is a service for members of Atlanta’s homeless community who have died in the past year.

Services provided at the requiem include:

A foot care clinic provided by Church of the Common Ground; sneakers, and warm weather clothes provided by EcoSneakers and Emma's Closet; First Step Staffing job placement assistance; Georgia Justice Project legal aid; blood pressure, glucose screening, Omicron booster shots, and flu shots provided by Mercy Care Atlanta; and hygiene kits provided by Project Community Connection. Childcare will also be provided throughout the evening.

To support the Homeless Requiem, please consider:

? Donating new or gently used adult and children size hats, scarves, jackets, coats, mittens/gloves, and shoes on Sunday in the Atrium.

? Making a donation to help fund this event and other Cathedral outreach ministries.

? Purchase books for children experiencing homelessness at the Cathedral Book Store. Visit cathedralbookstore.org and purchase any title on the "Book Drive" list to enhance these children's lives.

Choral Eucharist

for All Faithful Departed

At this service we will remember by name those members, family, and friends who have died in the past year.

Sunday, November 6, 2022 4 p.m.

On All Saints’ Sunday, November 6 at 4:00 p.m., the Cathedral will offer a Choral Requiem Eucharist in remembrance of members and friends of the Cathedral who have died during the past year. The image-rich and comforting texts of the Requiem mass – the ancient Christian burial service – will be prayed this year using the music of Requiem by Gabriel Fauré (18451924) sung by the Cathedral Choir and accompanied by a chamber orchestra and organ. Whether you attend to mourn, to accompany those who are mourning, or simply to contemplate the mystery of heaven, we hope you will be comforted, inspired, and strengthened by it. This service will be livestreamed at cathedralATL.org/worship.

DONATE NOW TO SUPPORT CATHEDRAL GIVING BY DESIGN!

(The deadline to be included in the show program is November 2!)

Cathedral Giving By Design is thrilled to partner with the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence to support their vision of a community center for families impacted by domestic violence. The establishment of this new center will allow WRCDV to expand their violence-prevention work, resulting in fewer children carrying the burden of domestic violence with them for the rest of their lives.

Please join us as a patron of 2023 Cathedral Giving By Design knowing that your partnership will benefit so many survivors in our community.

BE A BRAVER ANGEL AT YOUR HOLIDAY FAMILY GATHERINGS THIS YEAR!

The Cathedral is hosting a Braver Angels Families and Politics Workshop on Sunday, November 6, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. in the Gould Room.

Family relationships are becoming casualties of our toxic polarized environment. Family members are having nasty political arguments, avoiding each other, or even cutting off lifetime relationships. If you want to preserve important family bonds while still being true to your values and political beliefs, this workshop is for you!  If you would like skills to help you live into our Cathedral values of Grace, Excellence, and Hospitality, this workshop is for you!

Although the focus is on family relationships, you can use strategies in this workshop with any loved one. You’ll laugh and have some fun in this workshop—it won’t be all serious. After all, we all come from quirky families!

The Families and Politics workshop requires participants to complete a 40-minute interactive course online before taking part in the group session that runs approximately 2 hours long on November 6.

During this workshop you will gain insight into why family differences over politics are uniquely challenging, and you’ll learn strategies and skills for handling family political differences in a constructive way.

There is no cost for this workshop, but please do register ahead of time so you can get the online portion ahead of time. Register at cathedralATL.org/education.

UTO Ingathering

UTO: REFLECTING WITH GRATITUDE ON GOD’S GIFTS

This fall, we come together again with our global Episcopal Community to embrace a daily spiritual discipline of gratitude ahead of our United Thank Offering (UTO) on Sunday, November 13. UTO encourages people to notice the good things that happen each day, give thanks to God for those blessings and make a UTO offering in return at cathedralATL. org/uto.

This fall, UTO calls us to consider supporting the 2023 UTO Grants, focused on innovative mission and ministry projects addressing all aspects of the worldwide incarceration crisis, like prisoner support outreach, prison reform work, or post-prison re-entry.

Adult EDUCATION

THIS SUNDAY

Old Fashioned Sunday School

Child Hall , 10:10 a.m.

This year the class is focusing on the purpose of church or, if you will, why we do what we do when we come to church. The title of the first series is “The Purpose of the Liturgy (or Why You Don’t Need to Check Your Mind at the Door When You Come to Church).” This series talks about the powerful role that cultural liturgies, both sacred and secular, play in shaping how we see the world and live our lives.

Living Faith —“Why Church” series

“Why Believe?" Room 319, 10:10 a.m. In our back-to-the-basics series this fall, we are considering the question Why Church? through various lenses.

This week we’ll be talking about belief. What does it mean to declare, as we do in church most Sundays, “We believe”? Are there certain beliefs that are imperative for Christians? How are faith and belief related?  And what about doubt?  Join us for some lively and honest conversation.

Young Professionals Bible Study

Lanier House, 10:10 a.m.

Young Professionals' Bible Study classes are held in the Lanier House library for anyone in their twenties or thirties. This fall we are engaging with a Harry Potter Bible Study! No advance preparation is needed. Come join us! Contact Keith Dumke, kdumke@cathedralATL.org, for more information.

Enjoy Biblical Greek Room 239 and on Zoom, 1:15 p.m.

This newcomer-friendly class is open to beginners, while including long-term members who enjoy exchanging tips, best learning practices, and coaching points on how to translate the Greek New Testament. The goal is enhanced Bible study, not language mastery.

Cost-free, online resources are provided, in addition to traditional grammar aids, lexicons and commentaries, that yield immense satisfaction in discovering how the Greek text reveals nuance and depth in scripture.

Provided on a drop-in basis, first-time visitors need no previous knowledge of Greek. Classes typically begin with reciting the alphabet, pronunciation practice, and accessible grammar instruction prior to a half-hour or so of collaborative, rewarding translation.

Please contact the Rev. Dr. Thee Smith, tsmith@cathedralATL. org, for more information.

FLOWER GUILD

BEAUTIFUL NEW FLOWER SACRISTY!

Thanks to the passion of the Flower Guild, the thoughtful perspective of parishioner and interior designer Victor Moldovan, and many financial contributors, a beautiful, functional, and well-organized Cathedral flower sacristy was put into service and dedicated by Dean Sam Candler on Sunday, October 16. Thanks to guild chairs Grace Foster and Pam Walz for their thoughtfulness and patience, Victor for his pro-bono design services, and the guild itself for months of displacement. The new space is worth it and we are so grateful!

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE FLOWER GUILD

If you would like to learn to arrange flowers, the Cathedral's Flower Guild will teach you, step by step, about cut flower and greenery varieties and uses, the best way to obtain and prepare them, and how to design and arrange like a pro! We also harvest material from the Cathedral grounds and our own members’ gardens; perfect for those with an interest in plants. We enjoy social and fellowship events too. Go to faithflowers.com/events/ for more information and to register. For any other questions about the Flower Guild please contact Grace Foster, gfoster418@gmail.com, or Pam Walz, pwalz@mindspring.com.
