The CATHEDRAL TIMES
CHORAL EUCHARIST FOR ALL FAITHFUL DEPARTED
On All Saints’ Sunday, November 6, at 4:00 p.m., the Cathedral will offer a Choral Requiem Eucharist in remembrance of members and friends of the Cathedral who have died during the past year. The image-rich and comforting texts of the Requiem mass – the ancient Christian burial service – will be prayed this year using the music of Requiem by Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) sung by the Cathedral Choir and accompanied by a chamber orchestra and organ. Whether you attend to mourn, to accompany those who are mourning, or simply to contemplate the mystery of heaven, we hope you will be comforted, inspired, and strengthened by it. This service will be livestreamed at cathedralATL.org/worship.

STEWARDSHIP
DEEP GRATITUDE!
As we enter a season of Thanksgiving and the year's end, we are so grateful for parishioners who financially contribute to support God’s work and build the beloved community.
To-date almost 650 families have pledged more than $3,200,000 to the Cathedral operating budget. More than 400 additional households have contributed more than $425,000 to the operating budget.
Because of you, the gospel is preached, parishioners serve, and the bills are paid. In the next few weeks, we will push to finish strongly in 2022 and begin collecting pledges for 2023. In the meantime, thank you, thank you, thank you!
UTO Ingathering
UTO: GRATITUDE AND GOD'S GRACE
This fall, we come together again to embrace a daily spiritual discipline of gratitude ahead of our United Thank Offering (UTO) on Sunday, November 13. This fall, UTO calls us to consider supporting the 2023 UTO Grants, focused on innovative mission and ministry projects addressing all aspects of the worldwide incarceration crisis, like prisoner support outreach, prison reform work, or post-prison re-entry.
We invite you to spend a few moments this week to pause with gratitude to consider the gifts God has given you, then on UTO Sunday, reflect on those blessing, and make a thank offering at cathedralATL.org/uto.
“In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
For more on daily encouragement to practice gratitude, see the UTO November Gratitude Challenge found at unitedthankoffering.com/november.
Adult EDUCATION
THIS SUNDAY
Old Fashioned Sunday School
Child Hall , 10:10 a.m.
This year the class is focusing on the purpose of church or, if you will, why we do what we do when we come to church. The title of the first series is “The Purpose of the Liturgy (or Why You Don’t Need to Check Your Mind at the Door When You Come to Church).” This series talks about the powerful role that cultural liturgies, both sacred and secular, play in shaping how we see the world and live our lives.
Living Faith —“Why Church” series “Why Give?" Room 319, 10:10 a.m. In our back-to-the-basics series this fall, we are considering the question Why Church? through various lenses.
This Sunday, we’ll talk about giving. Why is giving integral to my faith? And why is it so hard to talk about? Note: Canon Holder thinks giving is fun to talk about… come see why! The Living Faith class tends to take up topics (and sometimes books) exploring the intersection of the sacred and the secular. It is a friendly, engaging class with room for conversation and curiosity. For more information, contact Canon Lauren Holder, lholder@ cathedralATL.org, 404-365-1036.
Young Professionals Bible Study
Lanier House, 10:10 a.m.
Young Professionals' Bible Study classes are held in the Lanier House library for anyone in their twenties or thirties. This fall we are engaging with a Harry Potter Bible Study! No advance preparation is needed. Come join us! Contact Keith Dumke, kdumke@cathedralATL.org, for more information.
Enjoy Biblical Greek Room 239 and on Zoom, 1:15 p.m.
This newcomer-friendly class is open to beginners, while including long-term members who enjoy exchanging tips, best learning practices, and coaching points on how to translate the Greek New Testament. The goal is enhanced Bible study, not language mastery.
Cost-free, online resources are provided, in addition to traditional grammar aids, lexicons and commentaries, that yield immense satisfaction in discovering how the Greek text reveals nuance and depth in scripture. First-time visitors need no previous knowledge of Greek. Classes typically begin with reciting the alphabet, pronunciation practice, and accessible grammar instruction prior to a half-hour or so of collaborative, rewarding translation.
