This Sunday: A Feast of Two Parts!
The Feast of St. Francis Blessing of the Animals
This Sunday, October 1, we remember St. Francis by blessing animals at the 8:45 a.m. service. We are all part of God’s creation, and we bless creation itself by blessing animals! It will be great fun! Yes, it is good to acknowledge animal life among us. It is good to appreciate the Spirit of God in the natural world around us. It is good to let ourselves love on animals!
8:45 a.m. – Animals join us for Festival Eucharist in the Cathedral.

10:10 a.m. – Clergy bless animals in the Cloister Garden. If your animal does not travel well or get along with others, bring a photograph or a stuffed animal to be blessed instead. Children’s Chapel and all Sunday School education classes are suspended today so that everyone may participate in the celebration.
The Parish Visitation of the Bishop

The Cathedral Parish of St. Philip welcomes the Right Rev. Robert Wright, Bishop of Atlanta, this Sunday, October 1 at the 11:15 a.m. service. Bishop Wright will celebrate, preach, and confirm 35 youth and 5 adults. These confirmands participated in confirmation class throughout the 2022-2023 program year. It will also be great fun!

We ask that snacks include a fruit or veggie, a protein, and a little treat

The Cathedral’s role is providing space for a group of students from Garden Hills Elementary School. Our Children’s Ministries team shares formation practices each week through Godly Play, chapel, liturgical celebrations, and spending time together. We also provide a healthy after-school snack each day, and we need your help! Can you sign up to provide snacks for our students starting October 2? To learn more and sign up for the snack train, visit cathedralATL.org/snacktrain.
We want these little saints to have a launching pad to all the successes in life. We also want them to know they have a church family that supports them and loves them. Please help us support our students!

The

Homeless r equiem
THE REQUIEM IS A SERVICE IN MEMORY OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE DIED IN THE PAST YEAR WHILE UNHOUSED.
WE KNOW THAT YOU WILL FIND THIS SPECIAL SERVICE TO BE BOTH MOVING AND TRANSFORMATIONAL.

To support the Homeless Requiem, please consider:

? Volunteering to welcome and serve dinner to our guests — many adults and children living without housing in Metro Atlanta. If you can’t attend on November 1, there are other volunteer opportunities leading up to the evening as well.
? Making a donation to help fund this event and year-round Cathedral ministries that support our unhoused neighbors.
? We are also accepting donations of new or gently used hats, coats, jackets, gloves, and scarves for Emma’s Closet, a clothing closet that respects the dignity of choice for our guests. Donations may be made on Sunday mornings in the Atrium. You can also purchase items from our Amazon wishlist at the link below.

SPIRITUALITY
BRAVER ANGELS FAITH-SPONSORED WORKSHOP: DEPOLARIZING WITHIN

Saturday, October 7
1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Gould Room
For people of faith, civil discourse begins in recognizing the image of God in our conversation partner. Since we are all children of God, our approach should involve mutual respect. Respect, not agreement, is an essential key for a healthy discussion. This workshop addresses how we may inadvertently be complicit in, or possibly even encourage, political polarization. Register at cathedralATL.org/braverangels.
For questions or more information, contact the Rev. George Maxwell, gmaxwell@cathedralATL.org, or Jeannie Mahood, jmahood@cathedralATL.org, 404-365-1031.

2023 SPIRITUALITY CONFERENCE
DIGNITY and the Authentic
Beth-Sarah Wright, Ph.D.
October 21, 2023
Life
9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
The culminating question in the Baptismal Covenant asks, “Will you strive for peace and justice and respect the dignity of every human being?” As core to the authentic Christian life, this question challenges us to look again and see the dignity in our neighbors and in our own lives.
Dr. Wright will use the DIGNITY Lens, a seven-pronged transformative set of strategies inspired by this question to advocate for and address any barriers to authenticity in our communities and in our lives.

OUTREACH
BECOME A SPONSOR!

The second annual Cathedral Giving By Design weekend will take place on January 19 and 20, 2024, showcasing a suite of design and entertainment events, including a welcome party, live auction, designer speaker panel and tour of homes sure to inspire. Events are anticipated to sell out again this year. Join as a patron, and secure your tickets today!
The 2024 beneficiary is the Boyce L. Ansley School, a tuition-free private school that educates elementary school children experiencing homelessness in Atlanta and provides vital support services for their families to break generational cycles of poverty and housing insecurity. Through Cathedral Giving By Design, funds will be raised for the Ansley School to add a fifth grade class for the 2024-25 academic year. With this expansion, the school will be able to educate a child for the entirety of elementary school. Purchasing a patron package will change the lives of these children and families, allowing them to grow and thrive beyond their circumstance.
Are you interested in joining as a patron, proudly supporting the Ansley School?
To become a patron, you may make your gift online at cathedralgivingbydesign.org or send an email to info@cathedralgivingbydesign.org for other payment options. The deadline to be included in the show program is October 15. Mary Perrin (Honorary Chair), Sara Blackwood and Tucker Mahoney (co-chairs) look forward to seeing you at another successful Cathedral Giving By Design event!
THANK YOU HABITAT FOR HUMANITY VOLUNTEERS!
This past Saturday, September 23, construction for the Cathedral’s 35th Habitat for Humanity House was completed! The Cathedral provided financial support and hundreds of volunteer hours over eight weeks to make this home a reality. New homeowner, Sade, is utterly joyful and beyond grateful to have a place to call her own. Thank you so much to our parishioners who donated their time to build this beautiful home and to all those who supported the Habitat for Humanity build this year.
