Min 01/23/05/2012 Workshop/ conference venue

Meeting started at 11am. Minutes were read by Clement Njoroge - CESVI Visit to Kenya School of Monetary Studies to be made after the meeting on 23rd May, 2012. TDH and KAACR finalized on financial arrangements. Booking made and visit to confirm. Ag. Chair to get updates from Mr. Ndiho

Min 02/23/05/2012 Guest of honor: Min 03/23/05/2012 Preparations for TV video documentary for the conference

• PRO to give update (not in meeting) • CISP – Isabella contacted, confirmed that she had shared contact with Mr. Ndiho and informed the NGO. • According to TDH, KAACR is to cover all costs including collecting the video, documentary clips; liaise with PRO on how to put them together. PRO was to guide on how the documentary will be aired (Catherine from ILO to share what PRO had shared) • KAACR - The word is to compile NOT produce the documentaries • ANPPCAN Kenya – working with Citizen TV (on site starting 23 rd May), they will air on between 8-9am, may be repeated in series, as part of Weekend program on Education, may be after the June 12th. Quotation from NTV, airing as ‘info’ at discounted commercial rate of Kshs.100, 000 ksh for 20seonds. • Alloys – we need to be strategic to find a special time e.g. Monday 11 th June morning show, to have PS or Guest of honor to be interviewed. • Additional strategy is to produce press release and share with the press. • Invite corporate organizations through FKE, target companies that have signed up to not using child labour e.g. Coca cola; or those still using child labour; Also those who have supported the adopt –a-school initiative

Min 04/23/05/2012 Children’s participation:

• CEFA – shared the revised program which included the child participation sessions. They also shared the certificate sample to be given to the children • Children to have separate room between 11-12pm to validate memorandum pre-developed by children in Kisumu, Nairobi and Malindi. • Include entertainment for children in the afternoon • Children not limited to those who were in child labour, it’s a mix including those drawn from child rights clubs. Minimum age of the children attending will be 7years. • Children validation session- to validate the draft memorandum developed in the three meetings to be held with children before the WDACL; These meetings will be held where the children are stationed • Reorganize program to have the Key note address as last key event after children present memorandum and hand-over of the certificates to children. • Sarakasi group; Don Bosco may provide edutainment in the afternoon for children. • Letter from MoL to be addressed to the NGOs (CEFA, KAACR, ANPPCAN, CISP,) who will use it to secure release of children from schools. The letter should explain how the children will benefit from attending the conference.

• Certificate to include theme and mentioned Ministry of Labour under the logo, designation of person (Permanent Secretary) to sign • Marko to share revised program by Monday 28th May. • Review the time allocated to each speaker giving speeches. • Petra to give Sarakasi and Don Bosco contacts to Marko to make requests.

• Be distinct on remarks and speeches. • Speeches confined to two children (boy/girl), PS and guest of honor. • Consider one national NGO to give a speech to present field experiences. • FKE, COTU and ILO to give remarks and not speeches • ILO/IPEC Chief Technical Advisor confirmed to give remarks • Consultant reviewing policy on child labour has been selected; he is to present a brief on the Child Labour Policy on what he has gathered as at the date to give it publicity.

• Workshop session (11—12noon) to be three presentation of 30min each. • Consider protocol issues when inviting AG given that Minister, PS and Commissioner would in Geneva. • Alternative to AG not coming – Njoki Ndungu, Milly Odhiambo, Chair of Children’s Committee in Parliament • Invite parliamentary Committee on Children. • Presentations confirmed 1. Draft policy – by Consultant 2. Achievement and challenges - by MoL 3. Recent statistical data- by KNBS • All logos for the 2 banners to be sent to KAACR; only three logos have been received so far from CISP, CEFA and SC. • Consider brochures produced jointly by ‘network’ on child labour intervention to promote the network and issues being addressed e.g. policy as a watchdog. • Follow-up to the WDACL 2012 events 1. KAACR with support from TDH to print info in 3,000 newsletter 2. The newsletter should capture the strength of all NGOs in the fight against child labour 3. TDH- the Child Labour Policy should be translated out of the judicial terms to enable better understanding of what it entails at the local level

• 50 children and 10 chaperons will be invited to the conference • KAARC and TDH to confirm number of adults budgeted for • Organizations participating in the planning (13) are given limit of 3 participants that they can invite.

• Bernard (ILO) and Diego (CESVI) to finalize on the presentation on achievements and also on statistics • Deadlines for sending logos is 23rd May 2012 COB, email kaacr@kaacr.com and gilbert@kaacr.com ; 0723 575 597 • Gilbert to draft brochure and share by 24th May COB.

• Organizations to send names and full address of those to be invited , to the MoL by Fri 25th May.

Alloys – the area advisory council in the three Counties – Homa Bay, Siaya and Kisumu- to combine the WDACL and DAAC, on 15th June.

ILO to also supported WDACL activities in the districts where they are implementing activities ( Kiti, Kilif and Busia) . The DCLCs in these districts are coordinating the WDACL activities which will be held together with Day of the African Child

National Child Labour survey concept note was sent by Mr. Ndiho with the agenda. MOL approached ILO for funding for National Child Labour Survey. KNBS had come with a proposal of 1 million dollar budget. ILO to finance budget at 400,000US$. MOL to resource mobilize for the balance of 600,000US$, hence the sending of the concept note. To be further discussed in the next meeting round table meeting.
