1. SCRIPT I-III Medium: Ink stamp, canvas Size: 9 8x10” panels in 3x3 grid The narrative starts with the script. Here is the scene this exhibition acts as linear stages of production for, split into 3 columns of 3 rows, and lettered like an old Hollywood typewriter— imperfect like this entire creative process. Before following the narrative about this process, the viewer is acquainted with the narrative of the film.

Script I

Script II

Script III

Because the script is split down, each part is only cohesive with the whole. Similarly, each aspect of the production cannot exist without its predecessor.

2. FLOOR PLAN Medium: Floor Planner (program), foam board, cardboard, cardstock paper, coat hanger, sealing bag clip Size: 11x11” To be acquainted with the scene location, but also the filmmaking process, first it must be viewed in its unrefined state. For this exhibition, the floor plan serves this role. Where a typical 2D floor plan illustrates primarily furniture, added here are elements that clearly define the location as a film set: a camera and crew. The effect of the cramped space is claustrophobia. As the layout demands mental strain, the mobile camera demands physical interaction, bringing the viewer closer to the film.

3. SET DECORATION & LIGHTING SETUP Medium: Three-dimensional laser-cut wood, plant clippings, bedsheet, breadboard, soldered wiring, mini LEDs, colored translucent tissue paper, earbud cap Size: 16x16x11.7” (to-scale of actual room) Connor’s bedroom is viewed from above, rather than the filming angle. The wires lead to three lights—two warm to light the subject and set, and one to evoke cool moonlight—which create both incongruence and balance. The movie posters balance grounded realism and fantastical escapism— something Connor desires within the context of a society that lacks understanding of who he is. Examining anxiety within personal and cultural circumstances is the common theme with the choice of vinyl records.

4. STORYBOARD Medium: Storyboarder (program), pencil, pen, transparent print, clayboard Size: 3 8x10” panels Panel 1 is the rough sketching phase, with notes on lighting and camera movement. Panel 2 is a digital sketch using a reference photo. Panel 3 shows how light can shape around the subject—an atypical stage for the storyboard process added to engage with the 3d model, and the audience. Subverting the storyboard pretenses, rather than organizing the panels to the flow of the scene, the panels flow in stages of the creative process. This builds the theme of narrative central to the exhibition.
