SUMMER CAMPS & PROGRAMS 2016

PAGE 1

Welcome to the 2016 Summer Camp Program We love the summertime. It’s our time to rest, relax, and rejuvenate after a busy school year. We can read, travel, catch up with my friends, and, more importantly, try new activities. Summer is the perfect time to explore a new passion, develop connections, and to discover a different side of ourselves. With this in mind, we have expanded and extended our Summer offerings to include amazing opportunities to develop Creativity, Action and Academics, and Service for those in our community and beyond. Our programs were specifically designed by our amazing faculty based on their own passion projects. We’ve also hand-picked external programs that we know will help our students make new friends and discover new skills. All families, from Stratford Hall and beyond, are welcome to register. We invite you to come join us this summer! Sincerely,

Ana Ver & Randie-Lynn Moffat Summer Programs Coodinator Summer Camps Coordinator

If you like books and food, then we have the camp for you! Cook and Read Around the World is your chance to learn about world culture in the most immersive way - all without leaving the school! To photograph is to collect the world. Spend a week learning to create images that are powerful, beautifully representative, and awe-inspiring. From “old school” film photography to “state-of-the-art” digital photography, you will develop (pun intended) a passion for this unique art form. You will further capture (second intended pun) a love for photography through darkroom photo development, an expertise in digital camera techniques, and numerous photographic field trip challenges sure to inspire all your Instagram followers. You may never take another selfie, but if you do, it will be a really great selfie!

Theatre for Living SUPERVISOR: Chelsea Todd and Peter Skipper OPEN TO: Students entering Grades 6 to 12 WHEN: July 25th to August 5th (no camp August 1st) HOURS: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM COST: $550 ENROLMENT: minimum 8 students

Based on Augusto Boal’s ‘Forum Theatre’ and David Diamond’s ‘Theatre for Living’, students will come together to create an original piece of theatre leading to a community performance. The two weeks consist of collaborative skill building and trust-building games and activities, culminating with the creation of our own plays. All days end with a traditional talking circle to debrief. These original plays will be performed using Forum Theatre techniques, where a member of the audience replaces a character on stage and the play is continued. This performance will take place on the final day of the Program. This summer program is open to all students entering Grades 6 to 12, with or without a theatre background, as this form of theatre is very accommodating of all experiences and interest levels.
