For me the experience was, for the first time, seeing for real the type of place I knew previously through television and movies. When I was younger the entirety of middle America was largely summed up by the Dukes of Hazard, with Top Gear providing a more recent underline to this.
The experience of visiting provides a more grounded response to such a place.
