The waters surrounding Åland are divided into several large and small fishing permit areas. All visiting anglers must have a valid fishing permit. For more information, visit: fiskekarta.ax. The proceeds from the fees goes primarily to fisheries management. Fishing permits can be purchased at visitaland.com. Here you’ll also find additional information on fishing regulations. Cottage villages and shops in Åland also sell fishing permits over the counter.

You’ll get the best fishing experiences with a fishing guide. The guides are engaged sport anglers who make a living from their passion, sport fishing, all year round. And it certainly shows.
Fishing guides will provide you with both fishing tackle and knowledge. They have capable boats and know exactly where the fish are biting at any given time. Together with your guide, you’ll get an introduction to the fishing area and help finding the best fishing spots. Not only that, you’ll be well taken care of - guides want to give you the experiences they would want themselves.
You don’t even need to think about meals. When your stomach starts grumbling, the guide will conjure up something good to eat and drink from their own larder. And, without skimping on the finery! With support from Lokalkraft Leader Åland, our fishing guides have arranged a number of nicely appointed and easily accessible rest spots throughout the archipelago.

The most popular form of fishing is angling for pike with a spinning rod, which is easy to understand. Powerful pike over a metre in length are not uncommon.
The sea trout is otherwise a challenge that draws more and more sport fishers in during the early spring and late autumn. Even though the sea trout is tough and demanding, its large silver body is hard to resist.
In the summer, fishing with spinners and jigs to catch the lively perch, which is ever ready to bite, is a truly enjoyable pastime that suits most people, especially families. Indeed, fishing in Åland’s waters is a catch-and-release activity, but catching fish for food is permitted. The fishing guide will be happy to show you how to scale, gut and fillet your catch. IT’S EASY TO BOOK a package, which includes travel, accommodations and guided fishing. Or, if you prefer to fish on your own without a guide, you can head out with only your boat and fishing permit. Fishing guides work in cooperation and are therefore able to take care of large company fishing parties.
